NotsoQuickline

[link to this post]

Hi all, I hope someone can assist.

I have been with Quickline since November 2023, they are the only FTTH provider in my village, so moving is not an option.

At the start I was on the 900Mb/400Mb package and all was ok apart from the clunky router they provided. I recently "upgraded" to the 1000Mb/1000Mb and my download speed has been cut in half. I thought this was maybe due to my TP-Link AXE5400 not getting on with my line and this was maybe confirmed when they sent me an upgraded Zyxel router, which improved things a bit but was still not getting anywhere near the package description.

I checked my IP and it said my provider was Boundless Networks. I contacted Quickline about this and they failed to understand why I was connect to this network as it was only a provider of a wireless network which they bought out a couple of years ago.

Could this move of network be responsible for my slow speed? Quickline have not been in touch since my last query, about 3 weeks ago. Oh and Quicklines online ticket system is a joke.

Thanks in advance.

It’s not unheard of for things that detect where you IP is from to get it wrong … it happens on here with their speed tests occasionally.

First thing would be stripping back to basics, testing with one , known to be able to achieve the speeds and more, computer connected to router via a variety of different Ethernet cables.

Depending on results, then maybe creating a direct to ONT connection … and so try to establish where the duff speeds are coming from

54-46 was my number

Boundless Networks had a majority shareholding from Quickline for a couple of years before you joined the latter. It's possible you were moved onto an IP range that was originally associated with Boundless as part of your upgrade.

That doesn't necessarily explain any throughput issues though. If the throughput is consistently and significantly less throughput (test using a wired connection, with speed tests to a variety of servers, etc etc) than what you're paying for you'll really need to follow up with Quickllne to get it resolved.

Can you perform an iperf3 test on a wired connection?

https://iperf.fr/iperf-download.php

I'm with Quickline in Lincolnshire.

The first test measures upload, the second download.

.\iperf3.exe -c ping.online.net -p 5208
.\iperf3.exe -c ping.online.net -p 5208 -R

Thanks all for the replies. I have tried a direct ONT connection same result.
I couldnt get my head around the iperf files to download. Windows kept coming up with security issues on some of the files with no override option. I have filed another ticket and see if they get back to me.

Again, thanks for the assistance.
