BQM+Toob=Fail -Any help please?

[link to this post]

Hi folks,

I recently made the move to Toob from Virginmedia but i am rueing that move.

Toob tell me the router (Linksys MX2000) is configured out of the box for ICMP/ping but BQM says no.
Just red all through. Reasons for wanting to monitor is calls keep dropping on Echo devices, radio via Echo devices keeps dropping.

Running speed tests show i am only getting between 80mb-100mb both up and down and this is supposedly a 900mbp service. If i run a speed test from within the router it always shows 900mb but real world use does not relate that.

Also IPv6 is enabled but seems to be causing issues as

our IPv4 address on the public Internet appears to be 145.xxx.xxx

No IPv6 address detected [more info]

0/10 for your IPv6 stability and readiness

Running a traceroute fails at the last hop

Also Toob use Cgnat

Are your real world speed test being conducted over Wifi or a cabled connection (directly from host machine into the router)?

If the latter, a direct cabled connection, can you confirm that the host machine has a gigabit link rate confirmed in the network adapter summary/settings?

If toob use cgnat the quality monitor almost certainly won't work.

It's definitely a problem on your end if the speedtest is showing 900mbit/sec on the router. Probably bad wifi?

Yes i am using gigabyte ethernet direct into router
I dont like to use wifi if i can help it, except for the obvious mobile phones and tablets but anything else I have it ethernet.

Can you boot a live Linux install from a USB drive and speed test from that environment?

Hi,

Another alternative for Windows, that I HIGHLY recommend, is the CLI from Speedtest.net. I use it everyday and find it highly accurate especially if I am testing from an ethernet connection. When my laptop is connected via USB 3.0 Ethernet adapter I consistantly get above 900Mb/s on my 1 Gb/s VM connection.

It’s a good point Mark, the Speedtest CLI or app will remove any browser artefacts or performance constraints.

However if you stick boot into a Linux distribution, then you can leave behind Windows in its entirety and you’re on the purest version of performance your hardware can muster. No bloat, no AV, nothing 😀

Just a dependency on Linux supporting the Ethernet adaptor in your machine properly. With the proliferation of chipsets used in consumer hardware being different to that in Enterprise hardware, there is a non-zero risk that you can get worse in Linux than in an optimised Windows driver.

I'm more a fan of a Windows PE environment to test hardware without third party "value add" software. Either that or just install Windows yourself, not let the OEM do it.
