FTTP availability query

[link to this post]

Can anyone help me here please ?

Looking at new properties, one we have seen, and liked, does not have fibre obviously available to it. (No kit visible)
BT Wholesale checker can’t find the address. The postcode one puts the address a good half mile away one a different road.

Openreach checker is similarly vague.

557 New Buildings, Enford. SN9 6AL

(Mods feel to delete the post if the address, not mine, and no one lives there, breaks rules)

Postcode is SN9 6AY. The news isn't any better but that will let you search for it properly.

Thank you Ian, had managed to find that info already. As you say, no more pleasing answer though.

How would one look for possible Altnet coverage (elsewhere, as well as here) .

Try bidb.uk as a starting point.

The coverage maps on ThinkBroadband will give you an idea which providers are in the area - but they won't have built to a new-build.

It's very unusual these days for new build not to have at least Openreach FTTP available, because OR provide it for free for any developments of 2 or more properties; and if not, it's because the developers have done a deal with some other provider like OFNL. (In which case, I'd run a mile)

Did some digging. It looks like it is covered by the gigabit broadband scheme and you should get Wessex internet FTTH soon(ish).

Maybe 1-2 years worst case? I think most can probably survive on 55mbit/sec VDSL in the short term but starlink always an option if not.

Thank you Mr-Mojo.

It’s the upload that would cause most issues for Mrs.Z’s work.

Starlink … no ta. I have no wish to contribute to Elon’s fortune.

However, the suggestion of bidb.uk has shown that an Altnet is available at another on the shortlist.

This may well sway the end result, and finally finish the many months of house buying B/S.

Thanks one and all.
