Openreach Will not install fibre to house

[link to this post]

Very happy with Plusnet but they do not sell contracts other than full fibre.

Openreach refuse to install because thay won't go onto a sloping roof, albeit some 24inch up a 12 degree pitched roof, or install onto a wall because they cannot fix the usual anchorage points to the wall to enable the one guy to do the install. Do they ever install when a sloped roof is involved or when two engineers could safely do the install?

Plusnet still sell "fibre" that is part copper, normally called FTTC or its technical name VDSL.
They do not sell any telephone services.

Plusnet only resell the Openreach network, so you might want to look to see if your area has any other network providers who are more flexible.

Try looking at https://bidb.uk or the maps part of the main site to see if any alternative network operators are around and can offer you full fibre (FTTP) speeds.

If they are unable to deploy Tetra, the ladder stabilisation equipment, then maybe a scaffold tower could be requested ?

Work on a pitched roof ? Nope. Is it possible that the current fixing up there is on the chimney stack ? That’s another no-no.

At the end of the day, the installer has the final veto. If they break Openreach’s safety rules, and have an accident, they can lose their job, their pension, or worse.

Received a letter just the other day ..

Have you actually placed an order for FTTP and had an installation visit from Openreach? Or is this from pre-order discussions with Plusnet?

Almost certainly Openreach will come up with a solution on the day to get you connected successfully. However, they may not be able to use your *preferred* routing. That is, you may need to compromise a bit, for example on the aesthetics.

Order placed with Plusnet. the only route in they will do goes though a load of plants and ivy down a wall and then that falls short on how to get it into the house.

Plants and ivy can be removed/cut back, they will grow again.

I recently had a Plusnet FTTP service installed in a bungalow.to replace a previous FTTC service.

The Customer Splice Point was installed where the underground cable comes out of the ground. The ONT was installed in the attic. The cable from the CSP runs round the property and then goes into the attic via a Soffit.

The service started working when I unplugged the router cable from the FTTC modem and plugged it into the ONT.

So you had an installation visit, and the engineer was unable to come up with *any* way to connect your property?

That's an unusual situation, and the engineer (and/or Plusnet) should escalate it through Openreach.

I would not expect them to simply close the order, unless they had proposed a solution and you had rejected it. It's unclear from the discussion so far whether that's what actually happened.
