Looks like FTTP hardware on block of flats?

Anyone know what this is - I don't know if its OR or an Alt Net, the area (Fleet, Hampshire) has Toob (alt net) on poles in the vicinity, and no declared OR position yet. My friend living nearby has FTTC, and we know Virgin Media DOCSIS coax is available.

On the side of one building, containing 6 flats, is this interesting installation, a large box with what looks like thin fibre going in and out, and then what looks like three external CSP type points. No branding on any part of this.

What is interesting is the fibre is hanging from a metal cable, has been routed around a doorway with separate tensioned metal cabling, to the other half of the block and another three external CSP type points.

I can't tell where the fibre is fed from, no connection to a pole or visible underground source; so it currently looks self contained.

The assumed CSP points are all in a row which seems odd as each flat is on a different floor, unless there is something internal.

That is classic catenary wire cable support. Is fairly old school way of running / supporting aerial cabling. Not often used these days as most fibre which is designed for overhead or aerial installation - has integrated wire support within the cable construction itself.

It's how Community Fibre have done a lot of their social blocks, I wouldn't expect it to be them at this location though.

I’ve seen it / had it done with other cabling types too. It’s very neat and secure if done correctly.

Thanks. Wonder why there is no visible feed input to this collection of hardware. There is hope maybe for my friend in a block the other side of the square, with OR FTTC at the moment. He was previously attempted an install but they realised he wasn't line of sight (pesky trees in way) to the pole they erected in car park.

Without knowing the reticulation routes / runs, and how far along the install process they are. Or who “they” are…it’s to mis-quote the late Mr Rumsfeld, ‘…too many unknown unknowns, as opposed to the known unknowns” 🤩

Using thinkbroadband maps and BIDB, it really can only be Toob.. as VM have been around for years with coax, and OR is just FTTC in the town.

The other flats in the area are all fed from a new telegraph pole that says "property of toob" which is why I was confused!

Just doesn’t look like a completed job to me is all. It’s the intermediate section - there’s no discernible lead-in fibre cable or microduct from the street to the ODF (that would have been the biggest give away) and doesn’t appear as though there’s any final drops to flats from those three splice points.

It’s not Openreach as their Dexgreen CSPs are branded and no other Openreach FTTP in the vicinity? More than likely to be toob given what you’ve said, just no final markings or any temporary tags / labels etc.

I will go round every weekend and see if anything changes. Its a stones throw from a friend of mine who would sign up with toob if they could deliver (they failed to deliver 2 years ago... line of sight from pole unachievable).

You and I could make that assumption, but given its a housing association that owns the land, there is no direct road access to my friends block, and that Toob have installed about 30 poles in the neighbourhood, and ZERO from British Telecommunications PLC that their option was to PIA rent duct access, which may be D.I.G. anyway. The block has virgin coax cable for anyone who wants to pay.

That housing association gave permission and was happy to talk with toob, unlike the people that own my block a town over who have gone 'quiet' to myself, my neighbour, Toob, Hey!Broadband and even Openreach.

It is officially yet another UK mess.
