A bit more poking around seems to suggest that the new faceplate is to be used for a new 'SOGEA' service - Single Order Generic Ethernet Access. There is a new SOGEA frontplate designed to use with the NTE5c.That's what it said in the OP's link. It just didn't give a picture of it, but it's clear from the new NGE5c backplate picture.
