I've finally joined the Full Fibre revolution

[link to this post]

Just over two years ago, I tried to get full Fibre broadband with Plusnet, but Openreach couldn't threat the fibre through because of they thought was a blocked duct on the neighbour's drive (the neighbour didn't want to have the drive dug up again after the water company fluffed it up). Anyway, a couple of months ago Openreach came back trying to sort it out for my other neighbour again, and they found the problem with the duct in another neighbour's property, and fixed it. They finally managed to thread the fibre optic cable through. I'm now rocking 500Mb broadband.

Congratulations.
Now what are you going to do with that super-duper speed? smile

The biggest use for it will be my Xbox Series X. Whilst I could have made do with my 50Mbps FTTC connection, it'll make downloading big games a whole lot easier. It took about 6 hours to download Forza 5 on FTTC, this time it took about an hour and a half.

I download a blu-ray film in 4 MINUTES
rather than wait 3 HOURS for it on FTTC

and I allow the rest of my family to not have to wait 3 hours to use their devices while I am swamping my old 40 meg connection streaming a 30mbit 4K version.

I can also take advantage of the streaming tv boxes I got on each tv in my house without having to tell everyone they have to watch BBC 1 while I am watching a 4k film.

zy I know you allergic to faster connections and think everyone should only be able to get 56k connections but you forget we dont live in communist Russia and can choose what we want to pay for.

Oh yes, the extra speed will certainly be goods for that. I used to download games and other large files at night, not that I buy many games.

The faster speed is certainly useful.

@pyarwood, I was just asking a question, I have nothing against faster speeds,

you have on many occasions quoted that you dont think the public need or want fast internet
even your comment on THIS thread is saying you dont think the op needs or could even use a
500 meg connection.

Thats excellent news, I had single digit broadband speed before FTTP came along and its made such a big difference for me so happy you're seeing a benefit too.

You're on record for many years against FTTP and people on these forums advised you that the delivery medium doesn't necessarily mean speed. (e.g. 80/20 Mbps)

Speed requirements change with experience, as you nicely demonstrate.

One big advantage of faster broadband is that enables the user to scroll through pointless, inane posts much quicker.

I'm on a talktalk 900 connection, do I need it? In reality no but its nice to have and in real terms its cheaper than the old dial up services of 20 years ago.
