Broadband service running extremely slowly

[link to this post]

For the last few days, my Orange broadband connection has been running extremely slowly to the point where it is impossible to view any websites or download any emails. Whilst I am actually connected, it is so slow as to be completely useless.

Has anyone else found that their Orange broadband service has done the same in the last few days?

Yes, I noticed something odd too.

The majority of problems appear with websites which use CSS for me, e.g. MS Livemail and hotukdeals.com.

I'm intrigued that it isn't *just* me. The slow down only occurred (every the conspiracy theorist!) *after* I complained about not being upgraded to a speed closer to 8M which was promised.

[
Quick aside:
The lady on the helpdesk told me that I couldn't go faster than the 2M that I already had as the line was owned by BT, and that only if, er (pause for dramatic effect), BT increased the line speed would I be able to get to the 5.5M speed which she acknowledged was available!!!!

Just to clarify, when I say that it has slowed down, my broadband connection is at the point where I am lucky if the browser can download enough to display the website's title. Rarely I might get the address bar icon appearing as well but generally I get to stare at a blank screen until it times out or I give up.

If you are getting anything at all to appear when you try to view websites then your connection is running way faster than mine.

For the past few days (week or so) my Orange broadband has been really unreliable. I have had problems since they performed an order change ? And increased my speed (which I never asked for) Now it says my line is 4Mb when I use to only have 2Mb. I cannot stay connected for any lengh of time either with my router (my own d-link not the livebox) or the old speed touch USB modem. The modem dial-up connection is cut then is the following attempts it says no dial-tone (for 10 secs or so) before reconnecting, and my router says "physical line error" I have enteblished its no other devices in my house including filters yet the problem is still present.
I am awaiting my MAC code in a e-mail as I was swiching to Sky anyhow, but this is the final nail in the coffin. If I have o joy connecting before I leave I will be tempted to issue a charge back on my credit card, as the service I am paying for does not meet what its supose to do.

My broadband also slowed down to the point of it being unusable last night (from around 10pm).
I'm lucky if it receives 3kb in 5 minutes, which makes checking email or the web impossible as everything simply times out.

I was on the 1mb package as that's all that's available in my area; I'm not aware of Orange intendeding to upgrade my package like other posters have mentioned, so I can only assume there's a fault with hardware at Orange's end.

I find it quite frustrating that ISPs such as Orange have followed the trend of oversimplifying support sections solely aimed at new users, and remove details such as service status - yes there is a service status page on orange.co.uk which requires some effort to locate, but they always remove any record of a fault which isn't helpful to those who have experienced trouble with their service. It's useful if you've had trouble with your connection, to refer to a service status page either from work or another location and know that it's a) being addressed/recognised by the ISP b) not your hardware c) may have been corrected.
