Livebox Problem

[link to this post]

Guys - going back to France at the weekend and would love to be able to hook up while I'm there [ me uses a MacBook on NTL ]

Now I have a good friend in France with a live box - and it was set up for him . We have been trying to get him onto GoogleMail so we can send him large attachements and his e-mail has been set up - I was there when it was done so I know it's OK.

NOW - when I'm there this time I need to see if I can find out why he can't access his Gmail stuff - he has the right password and ID.

I'm not even going to try and get my wireless machine on his livebox - I did ask him if he knew his password and the blank look told me what I need to know there

I'm taking an ethernet cable out with me so that hopefully I will be able to get on his Live Box - he uses it wirelessly.

If I use my own Ethernet connection to my Linkysys at home - I just shut down the macBook - plug in Ethernet and boot up the MacBook and everything works - same with a friend and his Belkin Router .

Will this work with the Livebox ? if not can you tell me in words of even half a syllable so I can print out the instructions and take them with me - and LEAVE them there for other English language visitors. My pal in France does not have good French which makes understanding all the info he has from Orange/Wanadoo a bit of a problem, He has absolutely no clue what this second phone number they gave him is for - and nor do I . Any help there would be appreciated.

Goldie

I'm not sure about how to set up your macbook, however you may be able to find some info at http://www.transcience.freeserve.co.uk/bramley-apple/tutorials/wanadoo-wireless.html
as for the second phone number your friend was given, this is for VOIP calls using the livebox. (more info on this on the Orange help pages) There is provision to plug a phone into the livebox for this. Don't know about over the channel, but over here there are lots of free calls and cheaper calls using this.

Thanks for all that - I don't intend to use my MacBook wirelessly there - I have a MacBook with the Draft 'n' Airport Card in it - and that can be dodgy at times - I'm taking an Ethernet cable with me for convenience.

Our problem is that all this was set up FOR him by a techie of some sort - and though I do have a degree of workeable French I find that the Orange Website in France is kinda hard to cope with. Even the page that opens when he switches on looks like no Browser I have ever seen - and yes - I was on AOL myself for a good while.

Even when we set up his GoogleMail last year the Site[ mebbe it was Orange.fr butting in ] insisted we had to do everything in French .

I just don't have a lot of time to help - he really needs one on one tuition
