Reactivation of PAYG without CD?

[link to this post]

I was a Freeserve/Wanadoo broadband customer until last March, when I finally handed in my notice. In April I moved house, and set up a new connection with Be Unlimited. Although I was delighted to finally be rid of Wanadoo, I was pleased I could still access my old Freeserve email account via Outlook. All I needed to do was visit the Wanadoo site every 90 days to reactivate my account, which was now treated as PAYG.

However, since Wanadoo became Orange, I do not seem able to reactivate the account just be visiting the website; it appears I have to get a CD. That wouldn't be much of a problem if I hadn't been told by a work colleague that when he did the same, the CD over-wrote all his internet connections and he was unable to access his broadband connection - he's still trying to fix the mess!

I'd rather avoid such problems, so if anyone knows of a way to circumvent the need for a CD, then please let me know! Alternatively, if anyone has used the CD successfully without wiping their new ISP details, please let me know that too - my colleague is not very IT literate, so it's quite possible he cocked it up somehow!

Many thanks. MLS

Good news. No need for the CD. try this page https://www.orange.co.uk/signup/noties/ar60.cfm

If that doesn't load correctly, go to the Orange home page, about half way down the page on the right hand side is a box that says 'Your Accoutn' in that box is a link to restore internet account. If you follow that link you should be able to restore your PAYG account.

When you get to the end DO NOT download anything

Thanks Smiler - That's brilliant. I hadn't realised that you could stop following their instructions before hitting the 'install' button! My work colleague will be kicking himself. MLS

PS It worked a treat, but it looks like Outlook will be downloading SPAM for the next couple of hours!

Do you lose what is in your mailbox when it is deactivated?

Glad to be of help . As to the spam, my Mum was complaiming about that so I set up her Outlook junk mail filter to safe lists only. (tools > options > preferences > junk e-mail > safe lists only) I sent out a mail to all her contacts asking them to send her a mail back. These automaticaly end up in the junk folder to start with, but a few clicks adds them to safe senders. She's a happy bunny now as the only mail that lands in her in box is from her friends

Nope, the only way you would lose anything would be if you left it for 180 days before retrieving it. The account would then go into an expired state and could not be retrieved
