Re: Orange blocking access to Ryanair.com?

Apologies for my cheek!

Your explanation migh make some sense but I have my doubts. I suspect a simple local problem. I have came across something similar when I was with UKOnline. If however you are correct expect to hear a whole lot more about it.

I've been having barefruit related problems since the trial started in March.

This does look to be related to barefruit because if I do a DNS lookup to the orange/barefruit server on 195.92.195.90/91 it fails but if I use the other orange DNS servers or opendns, or even Orange mobile, it works. It's probably some cocked up DNS update at barefruits end.

I know its no consolation to all of you....... but you guys do not know how pleased I am to find someone else in the UK who has also had problems getting onto the Ryanair website - I thought (as did my ISP) that it was only me ! Honest. I havent been able to get on since late evening Wed 30 May.

I am with Talk Talk and have had 2 daytime sessions with their 2nd line support trying to troubleshoot the problem. Each session was 1.5 hours long and we did everything - except fix the problem. I have been able to log on very very briefly this morning just before 8am but nothing since and that is the only time I have seen the website since Wednesday.

I phoned Ryanair support Friday evening (

There's something strange with the Ryanair DNS settings, Plusnet users are reporting very similar problems on their forums.

I see what the problem is now! Thanks for the pointer

http://ryanair.com resolves OK via the Orange DNS servers so no Barefruit issue.

Explanation gathered from here

http://tinyurl.com/2jc9yn

It is an Orange problem but caused by Ryanair changing their domain name.

Hi there,

Customers using our DNS are having problems too. the difference being that our DNS servers will only intermittently fail to resolve the site as opposed to Orange's that seem to be consistently failing (at least when I've tried).

If you're really desperate to get onto the site then you can use a third party's DNS addresses as described here. (Click on the operating system you're using and follow the instructions).

I'm not convinced that ryanair are entirely without responsibility here.

It seems very odd that one of their own DNS servers can't make up it's mind on the IP address of the web server...

Now working OK through Orange DNS servers. I don't know it it had anything to do me finally escaping the seemingly endless loop of automated emails to customer services.

"Orange are running a trial right now, in partnership with a company called bearfruit. "

It wasn't a Barefruit issue, I got this reply from them

Thank you for your email via the Barefruit website. Barefruit does not
block valid domains such as www.ryanair.com <http://www.ryanair.com/> . If
you are having problems accessing this site we recommend you contact Orange
Customer Services. If you would like to opt out of receiving the Barefruit
service, instructions are available on our website:

I didn't mean that it was deliberate. And has been established that its a problem with ryanairs' name servers, if other ISPs are having the same problem its the only explanation.
