Right ... enough is enough. Throughput just done at 113k!!! And logged on BT speed test.
Since 7th July this has been truly an awful experience changing me from my fixed 512k line to a better "up to 8 megs" service.
Initial sync was 3776k! Speed was 3Megs. But then, it all went downhill.
Loop loss 57db. Noise margin bounces -2db up to +16db. Disconnects every day,but no pattern. Can happen any time of the 24 hour day.
To date this has been done.
BTOR have checked and chased the line to the exchange. Report was a very good line and capable of a good BB. Wiring in house no problem, tests done at various points (and is in fact all "pukka" BT anyway - newish build, 1980).
BTOR fitted an NTE socket
BTOR ordered a "lift and shift" to a new rack altogether.
I have fitted an ADSL Nation faceplate
Have tested with every damn thing off in the house and everything disconnected from the phone lines ... via test socket and/or ADSL socket from new faceplate.
Have also bought a new ADSL modem to replace the Netgear.
None of the above has made any difference to the way the line performs.
So, after being a "loyal" customer from the very early days when even the Freeserve dial up was really FREE!!!!! I am going to ask for my MAC and go to another provider who hopefully can sort out these problems.
No one else around here has these problems and get syncs of 3-4.5meg and consistent speeds appropriate to their sync and IPP.
Can anyone blame me???
If Orange wish to comment, they can, but since this has been truly awful since 7th July, I'm not sure that much will help.
Rob
PS Sorry to everyone for clogging the "unhappy" threads ... and thanks for the helpful advice.

And another bT speedtest has wound me up to a wonderful 120k download speed.
Great. Just confirms to me that it's time to go.

Rob,
As explained in this long thread, your problems relate to your line - not Orange.
Simply moving to a new ISP, will not fix the problems you are having. A LLU ISP may help, as there is no profiling, which is why you are seeing the slower speeds.

Hi Matt, yup I know ... it's going to have to be a LLU.
Exchange is MYHAX ...
So, who should I choose???
Rob

So, would going to a fixed 2meg line be any better? Or should I jump to a LLU provider?

I'd go LLU, in all honesty. If the line does drop sync (which it does), when it comes back, you won't have to wait for several days to get your IP profile back.
As to who, I'll let the community make some suggestions.

Ok Thanks Matt ... I understand why you won't give an opinion
I have AOL, O2/Be, C+W/Bulldog,Sky/Easynet, TalkTalk(CPW) available ...
So, what is the difference between say signing up wth O2 or Be when SamKnows says they are the same? But they offer different packages, but seems they have the same LLU equipment ... eh???
Confused ...

O2/Be offer different services ultimately.
If you have an O2 mobile, they are the best (out of the two) and there are some amazing cash back offers to be had. Bob will no doubt be along shortly and he can advise you on those
Be give the user more control over their line in regard to SNR margin and Interleaving. I could be wrong but I am not sure O2 allow this control via a web based control panel, and Interleaving might be compulsory on the base packages. Someone will correct me if that is wrong (not an O2 customer..)

Ta Matt, the wierd thing is that Samknows shows the LLU status at the exhange as
"O2/Be" enabled
... as a single entity ... so, the question is, are they using the same rack of equipment, but as separate companies run different deals!
Yes, I have an O2 mobile, have been on O2 since my "U-Phone" ... back in 1999!!!
Still only use a mobile phone to make voice calls, don't have a camera-phone or anything fancy like that ... I switch it on to make calls and switch it off again when done. [I need it in case I need to make emergency 999 calls as I have a "condition" whereby I could go into anaphylactic shock at any time any place, but am not in fact allergic to anything - I call it the "Martini Effect"!! So a simple no-nonsense phone is all I need].
I guess I spend about £40 a year on calls (ie 4 top ups a YEAR!!).

Both owned by O2. Run as two companies offering different products, discounts etc but using the same kit at the exchange (apart from O2 Access which uses BT-based products like you are currently on).
