Orange Latency/Ping problems

[link to this post]

Hi

First of all my Orange Broadband comes free with the mobile contract and I don't have any complains regarding the download or upload speed (about 830 KB/s download and 70 KB/s upload) constantly and no disconnection or other issues at all.

One problem I have is that while gaming on any server including the ones hosted in UK that my ping is about 40-50 MS higher then anyone else, on a London server I'd have 70 to 90 MS while other people from UK average on 30 to 40/50 MS. This is the case with EVERY server my ping is always higher then the others..

At first I thought it might've been a router issue so I tried 2 different routers, same result, tried it on my laptop, other PC and this PC same latency. Tried the various tweaks about disabling Nagle's Algorithm, disabling QOS packet scheduled, etc ,etc same issue still.

I'm using a LiveBox currently and the stats are as followed

A tracert to BBC.CO.UK looks like this:

Now I've noticed that EVERY IP I ping has
2 40 ms 39 ms 39 ms 87.237.21.175
3 39 ms 39 ms 41 ms 87.237.20.133
4 56 ms 55 ms 56 ms 87.237.20.135

as the hops, a quick IP trace showed me they belong to Orange I'm a bit confused as my router tells me the type is FAST (I assume it stands for fastpath) but the above tracert and the extra ms puts me on to believe that I'm interleaved...

any help is appreciated!

Thanks in advance

about 13ms less than you. I usually get about 40ms pings to UK sites.

Steps 2,3,4 are always there and must be Orange's backhaul network.

I'm unsure whether we are on Fastpath or Interleaved; my router doesn't tell me, but always assumed Interleaved.

It must be some kind of interleaving because we're all taking the exact same route since we start from Orange headquarters or whatever it is, even though my router is showing fastpath I find it hard to believe. I'm going to e-mail and call them and see what they say since we shouldn't be going through Orange but directly to the IP we ping instead..(at least thats the case on my Uni's network)

I can't see how we can NOT go via Orange. The exchange is not the Internet, but just a conduit to Orange's servers and routers. Your Uni is different; it is its own ISP, an Internet node in its own right.
