Orange llu and usenet

[link to this post]

Hi, I'm just about to move into an orange llu area and am wondering how they are with usenet usage, I'm currently on entanet with Bt ipstream and download outside peak usage times so get no issues with speed caps.
Do orange penalise you for downloading outside peak times on llu? I don't use p2p other than for game updates so it's just usenet that I'm worried about.

Fine if you use a provider like Easynews or Astranews, but please be aware that Orange ceased their own Usenet feeds a good while ago.

White.

Having just been activated with Orange this week i have noticed that during the day and evenings they throttle of manage the speeds, i have just done a speed test and this tells me i am getting my full sync download, but Newsgroup downloads are only coming down at 300KBs, Im sync'in at 13020kbps.

Overnight may not be so bad.
But coming from an Enta IP Stream connection, Orange is still better than that.
No idea on what useage they allow or consider excessive.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies so far, i get through between 100 and 150 gb a month mainly out of peak hours but some evening time spent on iplayer add up to this.

Does anyone know if this will incur any issues, obviously getting tied in for 18 months i wanna be sure before i sign up..

Hmm, I think the Fair Use Policy limit is currently set at around 40Gb.

What makes you think that? Where's your evidence?

Is it really as low as that?, that is very poor by any standard let alone an llu provider.

Just about signed up with orange, phone line just installed, but when I asked about LLU fup was told on the ultra package i was going for that it was a 40gb usage limit a month, can anyone confirm this please as it seems low for an llu package, but unfortunately the only one I can get. Bt will only offer about 4 meg this far from the exchange.

sounds about right to me, i signed up under the impression it was 40gb a month.
actually i was told 1 step further, and the fup was 35gb off peak and 5gb peak (6pm-midnight).
though they only act on continuously high usage.
