Enjoying Orange LLU Broadband

Hi, I�ve been with Orange six months now and my LLU Orange Home ADSL2+ broadband connection just gets better, I am well chuffed with them.

Good, but should be getting 15 Meg Sync.

Is your Down NM always about 7 dB immediately after connecting?

Hi XRaySpeX, thanks for your interest.
I switch off my router overnight every night and sometimes off for a period in the daytime for safety reasons this does cause the Noise Margin downstream to fluctuate between 12.0 dB and 6 db and you can see today that it is 10.2 db.
According to Samknows my line back to the exchange is 715 metres , maybe the reason I don't get 15 Meg sync is part of the line could be aluminium.

I am happy for now it is twice the speed I had on IPStream although I always got 8128 Kbps sync then.

Your line to exchange is about 2.2 km according to your attn. This might account for any aluminium.

I used to switch off my Siemens router (16 Meg @ 27 dB attn) every night. From my experience and other's posts, Orange default the Down NM at connection time to 10 dB, unlike other ISPs who use 6 dB. For this reason I recently got a Netgear DG834GT with which I can tweak the NM. This gives me 19 Meg tweaked @ about 5 dB NM. As the Netgear has no switch I leave it on overnight. I don't think this makes much difference as long as you don't keep switching it on/off very frequently.
