Nevertheless, your Sync is low; line is capable of 19 Meg. Also your NM is suspiciously low @ 3 dB.

PS: You should blank out your IP addy, for safety sake. Only need to post "ADSL Line" to "Output power" lines of Siemens router stats..

Thanks for advice regarding IP, I thought it was only the MAC ad that was vulnerable. Anyway, I contacted Orange last night, as my connection kept dropping out, and for once they were extremely helpful ! I was advised to reset the router, via the rear aperture, and it immediately cleared up the connection prob. Also my upload and downloead speeds are heading north again, which makes sense as a permanent connection can only help with an acceptable line speed. Perhaps I may now get near the 19Meg line speed you mentioned
I'll let things settle down for 24 hours, then post you my updated stats, hopefully it will be good news !

I have also lost connection again this afternoon - so much for the euphoria of yesterday's Orange tekkie assistance

One thing is really strange - when I do a speed test via Orange @ the same time as I perform one on thinkbroadband, I get the following result:-

7/24/2011 7:13 PM GMT 2.25.183.111 7.27 Mb/s 0.48 Mb/s 26 ms London ~ 50 mi

which is approx 6 Meg faster download speed than thinkbroadband's reading !

It's all very confusing, or one of these speed monitoring sources is telling porkies!

At the same time? Or just within a short time of each other?

These two readings were actually 8 minutes apart, both upload speeds are the same, but SPEEDTEST's download speed is 3.66 times thinkbroadband's!

BTW, there is an hour's diff between the two organisations' clocks - Orange's SPEEDTEST.net not being on British summer time being the answer?

Try the speedtest at www.giganews.com - that's also very reliable and you might get an idea which of the two is telling porkies.
