Re: New Router appears to be another false dawn

[re: XRaySpeX] [link to this post]

Another session tonight with Orange Customer Service has got the wifi working with my son's laptop - it involved a factory reset of the Netgear router, and some setup changes to the laptop.
They also reaffirmed that it will be another 48 hours for my line profile to "settle down" .................. I hope it settles up! smile
If nothing else, tonight proves that it is dependent on which Orange customer service agent you get connected to, as to the level of satisfaction one obtains from the call.

Hi shrimper1,
Are you aware that despite what the Netgear router says that there is indeed a firmware update for the router which seems to sort quite a few problems although not all. The update is available at http://support.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/1... this is firmware version 1.1.00.41. I would also suggest you email one of the directors ([email protected] or [email protected]) and explain that you want resolution. I have found this method extremely effective as it cuts out the pile of pants that is Orange customer service, either that or you can take the matter up with the ADR for Orange which is at http://www.cisas.org.uk/ they take up your case and demand that Orange come up with a resolution plan and stick with it.
Hope this helps. Drop me a PM if you want any more info.

Thankyou very much for firmware update link & those "lofty" Orange contacts wink

I'll download the firmware in the next 24 hours, and will post some feedback on here.

I got the following response to: The update is available at http://support.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/1...

"Permission Denied Illegal parameter"
My speeds are so low now, my net surfing is grinding to a halt, see below frown

Download speed achieved during the test was - 109 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 100-250 Kbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 135 Kbps

Note: An Upstream test was not conducted on this line due to a technical issue. If your concern is related to upstream performance then please retry
the performance test again in 1 hours time.

Guess it's time to email a director of Orange, as you suggested.

In reply to a post by shrimper1:
"Permission Denied Illegal parameter"
That's cuz the poster allowed the URL to run into a comma (and you only copied part of URL from the post rather than its quote).

Try this: http://support.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/1... [space][comma]. that should work.
