New Router appears to be another false dawn

After having extensive email and phone dialogue with Orange ............ they agreed to send us a new router last week. We now have a NETGEAR N150 Wireless ADSL2 + Modem Router DGN 10005P. This replaced a SIEMENS Gigaset 572.
Initially with the new router I was getting 10 Meg Download & 2 Meg Upload. My current router stats are:
ADSL Link Connection Speed - Downstream 12984 Kbps Upstream 1110 Kbps
Line Attenuation 22.4 dB 0.0 dB
Noise Margin 10.6 dB 5.5 dB
The best download speed recorded today/tonight = 2 Meg
Upload = 1 Meg
This smacks of a Tel Exchange or Orange problem, as the new router was performing well up to Thursday, then today/tonight the rot set in!
Also we had BT engineers here two weeks ago, as our phone went dead, but our broadband still worked. The BT Engineer found a fault up the road from us, fixed it, then everything was back to normal.
If anyone has any advice or theories plse post to this thread.
Obviously I will be on to Orange Customer service Saturday morning, to see what they've got to say!
BTW, my Rayleigh Exchange "SamKnows" shows:
ADSL status: Enabled as of 30/09/2000
ADSL Max status: Enabled as of 31/03/2006
SDSL status: Enabled as of 21/08/2005
21CN WBC status: Enabled

Also checked BT Planned Engineering Work website, and nothing shown for Rayleigh.

Can you try the BT speedtester at http://speedtester.bt.com and see what it gives you?

It could be as simple as a low IP profile (if they've moved you over to a BT-based service).

There might be a problem with the line somewhere.

Your IP profile is low, which is usually related to the line syncing at a lower rate. This *should* increase over the next few days and I would say that if by Tuesday there is no improvement, contact Orange and ask them to reset your profile.

Monitor it from that point on and if it happens again, there is still an issue somewhere.

Orange support called back today and confirmed that the lower speeds were due to BT running broadband line tests in conjunction with Orange @ our Rayleigh Exchange, which will finish next Tuesday.

I've just reset the router, and BT speed tester results have doubled

Combined with the weak wi-fi signal to my son's upstairs laptop, this so called upgrade from an Orange SIEMENS router to their latest NETGEAR N150 DGN1000SP, as been nothing but eventful, not to say disappointing

Orange's only saving grace, is that our local RAYLEIGH exchange (which is only 450 metres from my home), may have not completed their BT/Orange work scheduled for the Bank Holiday period (Sat to Monday).
So yet another call to Orange customer service is on today's agenda - and that's like lucky dip, on the quality of the adviser on the other end of the line

Doubt the router has anything to do with your variable speeds. Netgears are mostly excellent routers. Tho' the Siemens is not bad if a little basic.

How about posting your router stats & IP Profile, which you tend to omit?

I contacted customer service again tonight, and they confirm that the Orange/BT work @ our Rayleigh exchange is still ongoing - it's now yet another 48 hours before any speed issues will be addressed. Not very professional ............... perhaps a demand for a price reduction from Orange for this reduction in service might focus their minds - but I doubt it.
One thing is apparent - the SIEMENS router delivered a better signal round our house than the new NETGEAR - my son has despaired of it this week, and found an unprotected neighbour's WIFI to connect to.
Anyway here are my BT Speed tester results :

That's your problem! No point in doing speedtests while this is so low. It's indicative of discons or bad syncs. Need to keep an eye on it to see if it improves to about 88% of Sync over time.
