Orange Netgear Router Firewall?

Hi folks, I just connected to Orange via BTw, and all is good, except I am struggling with the Netgear firewall - I can't turn it off.

Is there a way to disable it, or is there a firmware I can update to which allows me to turn it off but keep NAT on? (as opposed to the option to turn it off and NAT off)

I tried to update the firmware, but the router spat it out saying it was incorrect.

What are you actually trying to get working?

There is no firewall as such, you can block various services, but by default not on in a Netgear. The NAT which drops unsolicited incoming packets is enabled, and the only way of bypassing this is to forward ports to a specific computer.

hmm, well, I am playing Everquest 2, and since changing to this router, the game is acting very oddly - the game loads fine, but eventually kicks you out again after timing out.

Portforwarding does not seem to be effective, so I am at a loss right now as to what could be causing this issue.

So have you opened the following ports and ensured they are pointing at the correct machine...

Everquest 1024 - 6000
7000

TCP I believe

Hint, the bit about the static IP for the computer.

Yeah, I always set a static IP for my PC anyway as a matter of course. All ports were opened.

There are many more ports, mostly UDP too.

I'm in communication with a Sony tech now, he happens to have the same router for testing purposes, so he's checking it out for me too.

Hi Kaltern, on the port forwarding website they don�t seem to have the Netgear DGN1000 router listed, the nearest will be the Netgear DGN2000 use that.

Download the Netgear DGN1000 router upgrade firmware file and save it to your computer, then upgrade the router via Ethernet cable from the computer for safety.
