so will my new orange BB speed improve in 10days?

Hi,

I've recently (2days ago) switched to Orange from BT.

The speed fluctuates between 0.2 and 1.6. Right now its taking ages to load even the kitz webpage! Heres my results from KITz:

Hi, your speed should improve with your connection Speed downstream 2784 Kbps.

Your maximum line connection speed using an ADSL (up to 8Mbps) service is: 4091

I note with your connection speed upstream 448 Kbps it looks you are on up to 8Mbps service, what speed did you sign up for?
Your problem is the Line Attenuation 44.8 dB are you on a long line back to the exchange?

As a migration on BT Wholesale network there should be no great changes.

Do you have comparable stats from when with BT Retail?

From what we can see, high target noise margin indicating a noise issue, wiring issue, filter issue, thus lowering your potential speed.

Can you restart modem and grab stats again.

Sorry MrS I only have a speed test comparison for BT (was around 2.1 from a speedtest.net). Orange Tech support said not to turn the router off for 10days - i will get you new data if it wont affect my bb 'tweaking' by orange..

Hi E7er,

i signed up for up to 20mb - I'm on ADSL so i imagine the max is up to 8mb. ADS2+ is estimated for 31dec2011.

Orange sent me an email saying i would achieve 2.5mb.

Distance to exchange is 2.1km (sline)

btw - all telephone points in use have a filter, the new router is in the BT main socket.

ok restart the router just once, and grab the figures.

The myth that router MUST be on 24/7 for the first ten days is actually misguided, what they mean is don't sit there switching it off/on several times an hour ever. Not just in the first ten days.

Support staff know only what is on their script

now Orange said i would achieve 2.5mbps - so this says max 2.0 mbps - are they selling me short ( i was getting 2.1 on BT - i'm assuming BTs max achievable speed would be 2.5mbps to give speeds of 2.1mbps)

You have been put on an ADSL Max "Up to 8 Meg" package. What is your exchange? Has it been 21CN enabled?

You should be getting about 6 Meg Connection Speed, on a lower NM, on that package. So it sounds like you have a wiring issue.

EDIT: Your speedtest of 2.1 Meg with BT indicates you were getting the same Connection Speed with them and you have just taken your wiring issue from one ISP to t'other

No, they (and all ISPs) only estimate Connection Speeds and you are getting what they said.

However, the estimate is still too low for your line; you should be getting at least 6 Meg.
