Virus checker's Firewall restricts download speed?

Recently I took up McAfee's offer of two years virus protection, where you pay after one year's usage (if your happy). This entitles you to a second year free.
Unfortunately as I'm not blessed with a consistent download speed, I take speed readings fairly frequently.
I've since found that with the McAfee Firewall turned off, my download speed is better. Also, I cannot access some websites with the Firewall on. These are not "dodgy", or special websites.
It does not look like I'll be continuing with McAfee's product. So it's back to AVG for me.

Hi Shrimper, I would not use McAfee antivirus if Orange paid me, the programme is heavy on computer resources. I use Avast FREE antivirus and find it even better than AVG. I also use SUPERAntispyware and Malwarebytes and CCleaner.

Update - loaded down free Microsoft Security Essentials a few days ago. Appears faultless, and buck shee! Bargain
