Is Orange Wednesdays 3rd Facility Removed by Orange????

[link to this post]

I've had and used Orange Wednesdays since 2007 by courtesy of my Orange BB Only without their mobile or landline.

Tried to book it last night as usual by sending usual "FILM" SMS. Instead of receiving the usual SMS ticket was told to send "Cinema" to a different # to get the ticket. That told me it my # was not recognised as 4GEE, which is true, but BB users should send "JOIN" + BB landline # back. That in turn told me that it did not recognise my landline frown.

Tried the whole sequence at least twice including re-registering for Orange Wednesdays but no joy.

Got on to Orange CS (English) near end of their working day. They assured me that there is no intention of removing this facility. At least, before he had end call, got his promise to recompense me for extra cinema ticket and numerous SMSs but could not resolve issue.

Tried again after I got off phone but still not working. Will have to call them again when they have more time frown.

EDIT: I'm guessing that with advent of EE, Orange Weds no longer works from non-EE mobiles, as it did before EE.

I used this yesterday from a Giffgaff mobile. I sent (to 60005):

"JOIN 01234567890"

waited for the registration text, then:

"CINEMA"

I'm pretty sure that the texts have to be in capital letters.

Did exactly that. Still didn't work! Doesn't recognise my landline.

Same thing happens when I send "JOIN my-email-addy-after-@" to 80241 as per Orange Weds website, instead of "JOIN 01234567890" to 60005,

Is your landline with Orange?

Did you mean send to 60005 as per the Orange website? The 241 number seems to work only for those of us using Orange mobiles. I've always found you need a degree in bureaucracy to deal with Orange.

No. I did mean send to 80241 as it did say on Orange Wednesdays website under "broadband customer?" last night, but it has been changed since I spoke and wrote to them.

Notice Step 2: Register for Orange Wednesdays is contradictory; Description says CINEMA but Example says JOIN. Tried both. CINEMA does not recognise my O2 mobile as 4GEE, not surprisingly; JOIN does not recognise my landline frown

FYI: The short 241 # is only within EE Network; the 80241 # which I've used since 2007 is for all other Networks.

Is your landline with Orange?

My landline is with Orange, I was confused by the instructions on the EE website but after reading everything I managed to get it working.

I followed the instructions here, under the heading 'EE Home Broadband and Fibre Customers'

They send you a confirmation text once you have registered. I found that splitting your number up as shown in the example doesn't work, and any text has to be in capital letters.

Has anyone else managed to get a 2-for-1 through EE just using the broadband?

Ah, looks like Orange Weds has stopped working for Orange BB over non-Orange landlines then.

EDIT: Looks like yet another ruse by Orange to force customers to buy their line rental frown

Ah! On the old Orange Wednesdays app for Android you could register your Orange BB username to use it. Have you seen if this works with the new EE app?

No Android; no requirement!

EDIT: I'd already successfully registered my Orangae BB username via SMS from a normal mobile years ago.

Not sure whether this is just an oversight from EE, or whether it has been done on purpose. I've tried to find a way to register using a BB username but there seems to be no information.

I tweeted @EE and they sent me this link: http://web.orange.co.uk/p/film/cinema_tickets
It looks like you've done all that though. It may be worth tweeting @Orangeuk if you're still having problems, they'll be able to get the UK customer support to ring you.

Yes, I'd already pointed out that page here where I'd identified the contradiction in its Step 2. This had been changed earlier on that day, which might indicate that they are still trying to get it right.

I now think it is a temporary aberration caused by going from Orange's "JOIN username" to EE's "JOIN landline #" where they have overlooked the fact that not every BB customer will have an Orange/EE landline.

Thanks but I'm not a twit grin but I have written and awaiting reply.

Just noticed BT on their site are advertising "Under pressure to take an Orange landline?" and offering their bottom ADSL package (only) for £5 = £8 off list price.

Do they know something we don't and is it connected to my loss of Orange Weds?

According to Orange! All EE customers are eligible for 2 for 1 cinema tickets on Wednesdays. Did you get your tickets?

I know that. Not yet after 2 weeks frown. Still being investigated:

This matter has already been escalated and you'll receive a text message shortly to confirm that you've been registered manually. I'm unable to confirm a timescale for the receipt of this text.

I can appreciate the inconvenience that this may be causing therefore,
At least I have been given 1 month BB free for extra cinema ticket + numerous unfruitful SMSs.

I can't understand that even if EE have made a mistake overlooking customers w/out Orange phone it takes so long to re-register my mobile.

I see that they have now corrected that contradictory Step 2 on that webpage. It now reads:
register for Orange Wednesdays
Text ?JOIN? and your EE Landline number to 60005 to register. So for example JOIN 0208 000 000.
Ah, that must be the crux of it. I don't have an EE landline. They have overlooked non-EE landlines frown

Well, after 3 months waiting in vain for their oft-promised text message confirming my registration and toing-and-froing of complaint letters, I decided to do a little experiment by sending a text for requesting a ticket and lo-and-behold, to my surprise, it worked, replying with a 2-for-1 ticket (which I was unable to use that week).

I have since used Orange/EE Wednesdays successfully a number of times.

They do not offer an actual explanation as to why this went wrong but do admit that it was due to the transition from Orange to EE and that a number of customers were affected. I'm pretty sure they failed to take into account that some Orange BB customers do not have an Orange/EE landline.

Still, they did recompense me for all the extra cinema tickets I paid for during this period by giving me free BB.

Its very good news to hear you can now get Orange/EE Wednesdays cinema tickets and that you have compensation from Orange/EE with them giving you extra tickets that you had already paid for and them also giving you free Broadband sounds great.
You must be a very keen cinemagoer, I dont often go, but I am going to see the Les Misrables film. Ive seen the theatre show and have the 10th Anniversary Albert Hall concert DVD. smile
