Hi,
I'm only just figuring out all this attenuation/noise margin stuff - So sorry if I've got things a bit wrong here.
I was telling a (techie) friend of mine about my line stats and he later sent an email to me with his in, which are:
connected at 6347 / 1179
with noise margin of 4.7 / 3.2
and attenuation of 26.3 / 45.0
Is this "right"? I thought that with an attenuation of 26.3 (mine is in the mid-40s), he should be seeing a much faster speed than 6347. He is on an ADSL2+ package with Orange/EE. My head tells me he should be seeing connection speeds of 10-15Mbps, not 6Mbps.
I've asked him to check whether his Brightbox is actually connecting using ADSL or ADSL2+, and he's going to get back to me about that.
If this is particularly slow, what should/could he do to try and improve things.
Until a couple of years ago, he was a Virgin Media customer, then changed to O2 (where he got similar speeds), then moved to Orange.
Thanks for your help,
Adam.
