BrightBox 2 - Change DNS?

Hi All,

After losing patience with the wireless strength of my Sky Hub router I was thinking of switching to EE with the new and shiny Brightbox 2 offering.

Does anyone have one of these yet? I'm really interested to understand whether I can change the DNS settings in order to point to OpenDNS (in order to make use of the parental controls). I did try calling technical support who said "no, it's can't be done" but they hadn't inspired a great deal of confidence by that point.

Any pointers appreciated.

If the only issue is wireless signal then the issue might just be location and another 2.4GHz device may be no better.

Considered a wireless access point with dual band and locate this in a more optimum position for coverage

From reading a review, I was under the impression that the V2 model *was* dual band? I might have picked this up wrong - are you suggesting otherwise.

I had toyed with buying a decent router but a) It's not supported by Sky (I appreciate that there are ways around this) and b) I would rather not spend £100+ if I can help it.

I have of course tried tweaking the location, channels etc.

Yes just change from 'Obtain from ISP' to 'Manual'.

Dunno the BrightBox 2 (where you see that?) but it probably the original Orange Brightbox with the EE logo. They only have 1 version of firmware going at 1 time.

The box2 is dual band, but as 5GHz has less range than 2.4GHz you might only gain if the box2 has better mimo performance than your current device.

Also was not suggesting a new router, but rather a second device a wireless access point, that you can then locate in another part of the house and feed via Ethernet.

Thanks for the advice.The house is pretty small so setting up another access point just seemed OTT (I get perfect reception from my neighbours on either side!). Still, it might be simpler than switching provider!

I have not seen that new EE Bright Box 2 router yet, I will look in their shop to see if they have one. With EE/Orange you can change the DNS in the Bright Box 1 router for use with OpenDNS or Google DNS
