Router Stats Query.

Hello ladies & gents, I'm after some observations on my router stats please.

Upstream data rate 1127 Kbps, Downstream 9119 Kbps

Noise Margin Upstream 6.4 (dB) Downstream 6.2 (dB)

Line Attenuation Upstream 21.3 (dB) Downstream 40.0 (dB)

Output Power Near End Indicator 12.3 (dBm) Far End Indicator 0.0 (dBm)

Fast Path FEC Correction 0 0

Fast Path CRC Error 0 0

Loss of Signal Defect 0 0

Fast Path HEC Error STR 662 11529

Error Seconds 2904 433

connection time 51 hours 44 minutes.

Speedtest.net throughput results of 7.8 Mbps down 0.97 Mbps up

I'm just curious about the HEC errors and error seconds? There have been a couple of restarts since the weekend which resulted in down attenuation going from 39.5 to 40.

My router is on a brand new NTE5a master socket with an Mk3 vdsl faceplate via Cat6 router patch cable and all these stats are wireless on the laptop. I fitted the new master socket, filtered faceplate and router patch lead at the weekend, no extensions are wired up and to be honest it didn't make any obvious improvement to the broadband.

It's about par for the course.

ES are fine. I reckon on about at most 1 / min on Fast Path.

Duuno much about HEC errors, but you've only got 662 Down. The high Up is reported from the DSLAM which has not reset them.

Restarts? You've had no resyncs. LoS = 0.

0.5 dB delta in Attn. is insignificant.

You line should be good enough to take a 3dB NM and thus higher sync, perhaps + 2 Meg.

The higher figure HEC errors are on the down, 662 was the up. Does this make any difference?

Sorry, I disagree. The 662 HEC are below 'Near End Indicator' not 'Upstream'. (You have massaged the output so it wasn't faithful)

Near End Indicators are figures measured at the near end (the router).
Far End Indicators are figures measured at the far end (the DSLAM) and reported to the near end.

Sorry, yes I understand now after looking at it again, oops, and thanks for the explanation.
You say about the line being good for 3dB NM and a resync maybe +2Mb, if the line is stable and DSLAM doesn't cause a resync might I only get any improvement if do it manually? Also why, as I've read, is midday the best time for resyncing routers?

No reason not to do it manually if you have a NM setting router. You can always set it back to default if it's troublesome.

Anytime in daylight hours is good so as to avoid interference from nighttime electrics like street lamps & everyone watching TV .

I only have the Brightbox 1 so don't think I have any control over that.

Oh, I thought that's what you meant by 'manually'. You could just try rebooting occasionally.
