EE ADSL : £2.95/month 12 month offer + Line Rental £16.40

[link to this post]

Anyone thing this offer is worth a punt for 12 months on a second phone line I used to use for a BE Bonded service?

I have Sky on the other line and wanted an alternate provider in case of outages on the Sky side (not happened yet).

My only concern was EE blocking me using Google SMTP servers for email, unless I misread the traffic management guide?

Thoughts?

Avoid EE, unless you are very lucky or just enjoy hassle. wink

Currently getting threatened with suspension of phone and broadband services despite being over £300 in credit for example.

SSE look like they might be worth concidering. Apparently they don't block port 25 either.

If its for a 2nd line and as backup then Plusnet could be OK!

I've got an ADSL line with Plusnet and it seems to be ok, though I am moving away due to decline in Customer Service..

You have! EE only block unauthenticated port 25 SMTP. GMail uses port 465 SSL Authenticated. Similarly for other major email providers.

if you pay a years line rental upfront and add the whole 12 months together they are the cheapest provider in the UK...

Don't take that as FACT though, I looked into something similar a couple months back but as I already had a BT Wholesale based service I went for Sky LLU... though that ended with public sharing of mis-selling attempts and poor customer service.

I have used EE/Orange home broadband since 2006 and find the ISP very good value for money, if thinking of joining EE home broadband dont let the network traffic management put you off, unless you use bitTorrent or Peer-2-Peer (P2P).

My payments are made by Direct Debit every month for home broadband, home landline phone, landline rental and the mobile phone, never had any problems with payments. I am impressed with the details given on the website and they even email and text me every month to give the date payments will be taken from my bank account. wink

If you have not suffered banding, or a lying totally incompetent customer service, then you are very lucky indeed. The only good thing about EE, is they always give a free month for a cock-up. They are so bad, we recently had three free months in the kitty.

I don't do the lottery, but having EE/Orange legacy contract, I get unlimited ADSL2+ 20Mbps speed home broadband, landline home phone with weekend and evenings free calls with BT answer 1571 and BT caller display also includes landline rental all for £19.50 per month. EE broadband is real good value for the money. wink

BT and my fuel suppliers are exactly the same. In the 'olden' days if you found an error in your bill they would always re-issue within days on paper. Now it's all computerised, even if you have paper billing, their systems cannot cope with re-issuing bills. However it will always be corrected in the next bill. I'm prepared to wait. The problem is remembering the figures and any compo agreed in the past.

Well EE have now issued me with four bills and they are still not right. frown

My line rental should have been on the first bill and eventually showed up on the third and my £2.50 broadband service was billed at £25.70. They have been applying credits, so it is slowly being corrected. Perhaps they will get there by the time my contract expires? smile

As it's a 3rd phone line, if it's rubbish I just swiched paying line rental from BT to EE.

Great you should be fine, you did very well 12 months free broadband, pay the line rental by Direct Debit, seeing your broadband speeds are you on a Market 1 exchange? EE is expensive connected to Market 1 exchange. (Customers outside of our network area pay £24.95 a month)

EE don't go by Market Classifications. They go by their 'Off-Net' areas which are basically outside the old Orange LLU network and they wouldn't be offering free BB to those.

It does involve a certain trust in the company and unfortunately EE have not earned that trust in a lot of eyes.

I myself have been caught out as despite paying upfront they have still given me grief and even cut my services on several occasions.

It worked well with my previous supplier though and if you can pay by credit card you have recourse for a refund or alternative service should the supplier go belly up.

Eh? Do you mean your exchange used to be LLU on Orange? Otherwise it makes no diff to EE as they don't LLU nowadays. The presence of other LLU ISPs is of no consequence to EE.

Yes for EE home broadband being out of EE network area it would be £24.95 + £16.40 = £41.35 per month and with 20CN Market1 exchange it will only give up-to 8Mbps speed not 17Mbps. frown
