EE Fibre: OpenWrt reouter? Extra box required?

Two queries pls:

1. Is there a decent router that works perfectly with EE Fibre (FTTC I think) that can take up-to-date verions of OpenWrt?
I can see e.g. on eBay this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OpenWrt-BT-Home-Hub-5-VDS... - would that work?

Regular FTTC, not FTTP probably.

2. I've previously had TalkTalk Fibre and that required an extra box with single ethernet port that then connected to a router. Does EE Fibre have the same setup?

Talktalk have no special requirements, with no extra boxes needed for any of their products.

That simply sounds like with FTTC with a separate modem and router, or FTTP with an ONT and router.

It's your choice whether you use a separate modem and router, or a combined unit.

There are very few routers that run Openwrt that also have a modem inside.
The BT HH 5 is 1 of those and will work with EE.

Ok thanks, so I'll buy that eBay one as flashing OpenWrt son the BT/EE Smarthub seems to require weilding a soldering iron or at least a serial cable.
