EE "MESH SERVICE" CODSWALLOP?

EE "MESH SERVICE" CODSWALLOP?:

EE tell me that if I downgrade my Mesh fibre to non-mesh, the "mesh service" on my equipment will be "turned off" - are they lying or misinformed?

What do you mean by downgrading your Mesh Fibre? Do you mean cancelling your EE Smart WiFi add-on?

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU => 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC => 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC (no landline no.)

Hello Ray, how are you? smile)

Yes that’s what I might do, as my contract is up in November. They told me they can turn off mesh, even if I keep the kit. Sounds a bit like hooey to me.

It's hard to see how they can do that while you keep the same router, the EE Smart Router I presume.

So they had their mallet and were walloping cod, just as I’d suspected? Lol. Yes, I own the Smart router + 3 mesh discs. I actually own them now.

So, just to bring this back up, Ray, I’ve seen you giving advice re this on the EE forums; so may I ask if it’s 100% certain that cancelling the ridiculous “Smart Wifi” add-on, will still allow me to use my discs for mesh, as before? I got another EE advisor last night who parroted the same old line “If you cancel smart wifi the discs will stop working.”

Is there anyone that has these discs that has subsequently cancelled the “Smart wifi” add-on, but can verify that the EE discs - in conjunction with the “Smart Router”, continue to work as before?

Ray, this is the very thread where I saw the same Q being asked (and the same {wilful?} misunderstanding being seen by other customers/staff): https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Broadband-home-phone/S...

I need to know pretty quickly. as I detest being ripped off, and we cannot afford this frivolous, redundant expense, esp now the contract has expired; I need to negotiate a new package, and based on the outcome of the info re discs, this will affect our monthly cost. It just doesn't ring true that this is a "service" - they CONVENIENTLY muddy the waters, allowing us to believe that, since the 4GEE is a part of it (and costs them to maintain the service)

Thanks smile

i have the BT ones ( basically the same ) that came with BT's complete wifi - they continued to work without the 'complete wifi' add on that i was previously paying. BT do 'own' the equipment but they made an error and didn't ask for the discs back or charge me the 'penalty' for not returning them. I'm not sure if its the same with EE where the equipment has to be returned if the service is cancelled ?

Updated : just seen their their legal bit - Smart Wifi: 18 month minimum term applies. You own the Smart WiFi disc and 4GEE WiFi mini device after 6 months.

Thank you, I just cancelled their nonsensical "Smart WiFi" disc "service" and saved a tenner PCM. GOD bless you, thanks again. smile)
