Just had a confusing time cancelling an EE broadband contract.
EE cant seem to make up their mind how much it is.
First is was £247. Then it was actually £357.74 and now with email confirmation its £362
Was told that the £247 is for 7 months of service as that's what they charge if leaving early and you have more than 7 months remaining (have 12). Then its another £100 ish for the wifi addon (BT Wifi Disc things x2)
I honestly expect the final bill when it comes in April to be more than £362!

I honestly expect the final bill when it comes in April to be more than £362! This is the sad reality of cancelling a contract with 12 months to go. Would it not have been better to leave it as a backup if it was going to cost that much to cancel?

As you were committed to a £600 spend in the next 12 months , anything less than £600 you should consider as a result…..BT’s way ( so EE may be similar ) is that the VAT element isn’t charged on the remaining term , and a reduction made for not having the expense of providing an ongoing service , (this may vary depending on what services were taken ) a small reduction for early payment , then VAT reapplied ,
A ballpark figure is around 50% of what you would have paid should you have not reneged on the contract , so circa £300

Out of interest why the urgent need to leave the contract 12 months early? why pay them £362 for absolutely nothing? I thought you was on a Virgin service until recently?

ISP's like YouFibre will pay upto £300 to get you out of contract.

This is my mums connection. The line is only capable of about 35mbps (FTTC/VDSL2)
And she's had a poor time with it for many many years. She is getting £150 back from CityFibre mind so that helps.

How EE calculates Early Termination Charges can be found in How do you calculate Remaining Contract Charges? along with some examples.
VAT is included in the charge but the charge is reduced by the considerable costs EE save as a result of you leaving early, such as wholesale costs, plus a further 4% for early payment.
Going by the examples given the final charge works out at about one-third (1/3) of the amount remaining of your contract. So I would expect you to be paying about £200 all-in.

It is a mathematical certainty that when you start removing VAT, then reducing things in proportion & ending up by adding VAT it 's the same as never removing VAT in the 1st place.
BTW: You were looking at the mobile examples, not the BB.

Update.
Final bill has arrived.
Now they want £415... This is taking the pee a wee bit. Contract was cancelled on the information that it would be £357 and it keeps going up!

It's not going to be so bad, Vodafone are offering £100 bill credit, CF are offing £150 as well, so knocking the bill down to about £100-£170 ish

I would contact the ELC team via an email to CEO - I left BT/EE recently and they tried to bill me more than they should too, was sorted in 48hrs.
