UK Gamers rights group goes after activision over black ops

[link to this post]

http://www.destructoid.com/pressure-group-attacks-ac...

Basically for the PC and PS3 platforms complaining the game was released in an unfinished state whilst the 360 version received preferential treatment.

Whilst i'd say the PC version didnt come off too bad from my experience (despite some glaring bugs that would be obvious to an inbred squirrel), it was playable for the majority unlike the PS3 version which to this date is still unplayable properly. Its nice to see these folks are making an effort to make a stand against it, too bad legally i dont think they'll get anywhere.

Legally theres nothing you can do really over digital goods, the EU is slowly working something through but i wouldnt expect it soon, more so as i was watching bbc news flick over the newspapers there was an article in one of them that insurers won't insure digital downloads either.

only action that will matter is to vote with your wallet assuming they make another! I switch between COD4 and BF BC2 now, this is on the 360 mind. Have to say never been so underwhelmed by the COD series now.

Were you searching for games globally or local. When playing I always search locally and then that searches european servers which usually prevents lag (Not always)
You do get the rare American clan in that makes the game virtually unplayable as they always seem to have 1 second ahead than you!

is this on the console version? Never thought you got a choice in any of the online games bar BF series which I believe you connect to a server rather than a someones console??

I have not experienced any lag problems on the 360 or any other come to think of it.so many games coming out i feel that Black Ops will be in some dark black corner pretty quick and has not got that Play Me Now factor like previous MW games before thay got totally hacked.

I have heard reports now that MW2 is unplayable due to hackers........

There are options in the menu to search local servers only and you can pick European.

It's not just the likes of activision or treyarch who release unfinished games and seriously lack in the way of support, ubisoft is another company who does the same thing, there needs to be better consumer protection /legislation that those who buy unfinished products ect are able to get a full refund at the very least

I'd say ubisoft is a worse offender than activision but the difference there is generally most people don't care what ubi release. Activision drum up so much hype and drama around CoD when they rush it out people are going to know and considering acti bump the price of it up its going to annoy people. They should have sorted the issues out by now, the fact they haven't is a joke, the DLC will be out soon and it will probably add more bugs and stuff.

My GF has a 14 year old boy. He proudly showed me how he has hacked his PS3 and was showing off all the cheats he can do in MW2. He even sells the hack to others and they pay money into his PSN account.
I had to explain to him that I am really against cheating and am not impressed.
When I asked him why he does it he says it's fun :/
But watching him stand in one spot and not even aim his gun but still kill every other player on the map seems completely pointless to me. If he was my boy Grrr!!!! smile

You can't really.

See the 360 has added security to do with the live service, if anyone tried to manipulate the game/console in the same way the PS3 is then they'd pretty much get immediately LIVE banned.

The most people can do with the 360 online is to mess with lag switches and stuff (which ends up getting them caught).

With the PS3 people physically made an aimbot for it, the PS3's security setup was all dependant on the console which is why with it being "jailbroke" its possible.

I bought Black Ops not long after its release (PC version) and have hardly played it due to the bugs and then losing interest in the game entirely.

Games will never be bug free upon release but it seems that they are being released far from complete more and more often. I used to do a lot of online and offline gaming, but over the past few years the quality of games has made me lose interest.

It used to be that you would look forward to a new release and then buy any required upgrades for your PC so that you could get the best out of the new games but now I wait an age after a game is released for the most part so that a load of the expected bugs can be patched. I don't mind paying full price for a game, but it would be nice to have a game released that you can actually play frown

The problem is the rushed release cycles. Pushing a new game out every November to get in for Xmas means it's always rushed and hasn't had the benefit of a good test run and beta period which should take a good few months and several revisions. When your total development cycle is something like 10 or 11 months it's hard to see where that gets fitted in.

There was a 2 year gap between COD and COD2 and then another 2 years to the first Modern Warfare. Since then it seems to have switched to one a year with World at War, MW2 and then Black Ops. Same this year seemingly with MW3

Yes but they switched to using 2 developers for CoD so it was still a 2 year cycle between games from each developer.

CoD, CoD 2, CoD 4 (MW), CoD 6 (MW2) = Infinity Ward
CoD 3, CoD 5 (WaW), CoD 7 (BO) = Treyarch

All that matters is the shareholders of Activision B, as long as people are out their willing to purchase and there is profit this will continue, because the law is so flaky aroud software. Sony too should be brought to task as they get a percentage of the sales as well.

Excellent post! Been looking for something like this for ages.

It proves to some players with enormous egos and tiny penile structures that they are only as indestructible as their connections!!

And we all know some of them right?? wink

Knowing how it works is completely different to understanding how it works.
