LOTR or simular???

[link to this post]

I have The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II, The Rise of the Witch-king on my old PC which I hardly ever use nowadays.

I use my laptop mostly and am wondering if there are any similar games that I could play on this.
It's not the fastest laptop and is now a few years old.

It's specs are
DELL Vostro 1700
Intel Celeron 550 @ 2.00 GHz
3GB of RAM
Nvida GeForce 8600M GT

Just want something that will run ok just to kill an hour or so.

Any ideas??
Thanks smile

What are you looking for thats similar? The setting or the genre?

If its setting im not sure of any LOTRO style games short of MMOs/oblivion/morrowind/etc
For the genre theres not been too many RTS's about, starcraft2, supcom2 will prolly kill your laptop, Command and conquer red alert 1-3, CNC 1-3, new one appeared recently called achron, etc.

If anything though i'd say that processor would hold you back, celerons arent exactly known for power.

Thanks for the reply.
That sort of genre is what I'm after.
Yea the chip is a bit pants, there was an upgrade (9300 rings a bell) at the time but it was about another £100 so I didn't bother.
Maybe I should just install LOTR and play that again :/

Well, red alert 1 and 2 are fairly low spec, theyre old games, age of empires 2 is fairly old too, CnC 1-2 as well, etc you might even be able to push into the 3's i havent took a solid look at their requirements but the older games should be ok.

I bought generals a few months ago from a car boot sale for 50p but as you can expect it is really dated. According to the specs on the box I should be able to run lotr ok but I know it's a really memory hog on my old pc and that was a good gaming machine back in its day, plus I've played skirmish to death on lotr.
Any ideas on updating the chip in this, I have no idea what I can put in it??
