And yet somehow they have managed to ruin it.

The original Resident Evil games were engrossing and I found them proper scary at times. Thanks to the musical score probably.
Resident Evil 5 lost me 10 minutes into the demo.

Res evil 5 was the sign capcom didn't know how to make a good res evil any more, now we have this raccoon city nonsense which looks like res evil 5 and l4d in a horrible combination, looks truly horrible.
Stuff like res evil merc's on the 3ds isnt remotely anything like res evil either. I think capcom are on their way out if they carry on like they are, just like nintendo.

Personally mate i would have thought that you would be posting your thoughts and views about that Resistance game you were so looking forward to .
Nintendo and the Wii have had there day and i put mine away forever months ago, really like Dead Island even though it is very much doing a lot of tedious choirs which really is just another way of getting you to go bashing zombies, don't like the way you can clear an area and the zombies have reappeared when you go back.
Resistance is still in the box and i seem to spend hours with dead island but i don't seem to make to much progress, next its Gears Of War 3 and the Battlefields
|
|
|
I've read of rumours that a Res 6 would return to the original style.
That would suit me fine. Some are asking for run and gun ability. That I don't want, but I would like to at least be able to move and fire.
But alas, (as you say) I doubt they have it in them anymore. And I certainly don't want the remake.

Doubt they realise what the style was though.
The great thing about old hardware was that the game design was very important in creating an atmosphere rather than sticking high res textures here and there with lots of meaty shooting.
They seem to have forgotten the eerily creepy locations with A ZOMBIE or TWO!
Which is more scary a zombie bursting out the closet or a horde walking down the street.

No contest. I've slept with my bedroom door open ever since the original.

Why? is she like the dead island ones where they have a boob missing and a suspicious bulge in their bikini bottoms? ;D

Far Worse than that matey On the subject of Dead Island how you finding it as i am really enjoying it far more than games like fallout 3, played a little Resistance tonight but after chapter 2 which is about 20 minutes i got extremely bored with the game.
Not the news my matey mrnelster wanted to hear but i think he knew that i would be somewhat critical since i did not care to much for the previous 2 .
When i load a game i kind of get that nice feeling that this is something i am going to like and enjoy playing,Dead Island flaws and all is one of them but this Resistance makes me feel like .......You know what i just don't care?
I am going to try and do a few more chapters and will also test out the online part of the game but in all honesty from what i have seen and played its getting traded and I'm suing mrnelster for making me buy it ,so on that note its a 6/10 for me at present which may or may not change given i have the patience to put up with it which i doubt knowing me.

Yup, I loved Resident Evil 2 with the zombies putting their hands through the boards in the windows and even bits like the start when there is a burnt out police car and one or two zombies around it but if you don't navigate correct then you get your face chewed off! Those were the days, now it's about killing as many as you can with an array of weapons.
|
|
|
Hey T2D how far have you got through Dead Island? I am 65% story completion but stopped a bit to go back and do some side quests, my playtime is just under 17 hours at the mo and I'm level 29 as the short blades expert. Loving playing with my friends but not so much on singleplayer just because you get absolutely overran in the city its HECTIC lol
|
|
|
Jaxx I'm about 8% through the game and only on level 9 so i am nowhere near your time spent playing it,quest i am on at the moment is collecting 2 cartons of juice where i have come across a zombie on the roof and apparently you have to turn of the power at the petrol station......Done that but still the zombies on the floor are getting electric shock treatment and the ladder i need to climb up has water below and electricity current flowing through it,since i turned of 2 generators and could not find a 3rd after about 45 minutes i decided what the hell and ran for the ladder which impacted my health a little.
Killed the level 9 zombie at the top and dropped through the roof window and got my other juice, but on the way back got into another side quest which i am still trying to work out, love driving over the masses of zombies because its much easier than standing there toe to toe.
|
|
|
Ahhh yea, it's pretty tough that quest is! I didn't work out where the third one was either and I looked for about half hour lol, in the end I just walked through the electric and climbed the ladder like you said I took the juice back to the guy in the life guard centre and stood next to him with the juice for about 10 mins trying to work out where to put it then realised you had to put it in the garage where you park the truck lol
It's a very good game, can't wait to finish work so I can carry on! Definitely think it will occupy me for a few weeks at least

Its got a mixed bag of reviews yet Resistance 3 [awful game] gets 9/10 on most gaming sites, again i should have gone with my instinct but because of the gaming drought i went and bought Resistance 3.
Played it online and that is even worse than the shambolic single player game ,graphics are not very good for a fps in this day and age and the animations are some of the worse i have ever seen, especially the climbing the ladder bit as mrnelster pointed out and the running is really stupid.
Think they should stick with there ratchet and crank games and leave FPS to dice and infinity ward because this game going a week tomorrow as a trade in for Gears Of War 3 which was pre/ordered but now cancelled as i want to dish this game asap.
Sorry me old matey mrnelster that we don't share similar views on the game but that is not a bad thing is it.after all we do like the majority of the same games.

Hey, there's no need to apologise. You can't get it right every time!
But seriously, that's what makes the world go round mate. I'm still thinking about Rage, but i dont think you hold out much hope for that one either? To be fair, if I'd played as many games as you had I'd probably be a lot more particular but I'm happy for now with R3.
In fact, after you're glowing reports I am contemplating trading it with Dead Island once I've completed it.
Did you get it on the 360 or PS3?

I have Dead Island on the 360 mate and if you like a very long single player game with a lot of quests and one hell of a lot of ranking up,making weapons, doing a lot of searching and travelling its right up your street.
Normally mate games like this bore me as it involves plenty of time and effort, but i actually think its a very good game and it makes me feel like i want to play it nightly since last thursday so that to me is a game that holds my interest.
Its far from perfect mate but if you like killing zombies and stuff then its a really enjoyable experience and a game i am very glad that i bought.
I have MW3 pre/ordered for 360 but Battlefield for the Playstation 3 since reports say its actually better on that system........Yeah ....Stand back Gobsmacked if this proves correct as it will be a rare example of a Playstation game Multi platform out performing its xbox Counterpart.
I will pick up the HD remake of 2 classic playstation 2 games Ico and shadow of colossus ,if you never played them then get your pre/order in as they are 2 brilliant playstation 2 games released end of this month,Rage I'm on the fence as what i have seen does not really make me that excited, but we will see when the game ships and your opinion and other review sites.
Still no sign of this Battlefield beta for playstation users but i will post on here the moment its on the store.
So next up its Gears Of War 3 followed by ICO/SHADOW then hopefully the big 2 FPS of the year
|
|
|
Nothing like smacking the undead limbs off zombies eh? ;D Personally i love the electric mod weapons watching the zombies fry out.
ICO and Shadow are two amazing games, Ico is short but the time spent with it is something you don't forget, same with shadow really except shadow kinda has a meta quest to it as each play through stacks your stamina and eventually you can climb to the top of that tower.
BF3 beta is meant to be all platforms in early sept, yet here we are and its over half way...
But yes, Gears 3, then BF3 then Saints row 3 then year out, with plenty of indie sprinkling inbetween.

Yeah forgot about saints row as i really fancy that sandbox game which looks like GTA but more fun and frolics

I loved the drop in co op mode on Saints Row 2, and I keep sniggering at the thought of joining someones game armed with a giant rubber dildo!
I will pre order Ico and Shadow on you guys' say so. I am also thinking about Bioshock. Would I be disappointed (graphically or whatever) if I picked up the first two, or would either of you recommend 1 over 2? Or vice versa?

Are you telling me you have never played Bioshock matey ,graphically Bioshock today is better than most games and its has some of the best water effects i have ever seen.
The first Bioshock is the best because it was new and fresh so the second one does not quite surprise like the first instalment
|
|

Yea I put the High Voltage mod on nearly all my weapons haha! I have just found a new one as well which I think I got at level 30 called Old Smoky which is even better than the High Voltage, it's epic!
I agree with T2D, if you like a lot of exploring, picking up loot, upgrading and repairing weapons, levelling up, quests etc. then you will enjoy it. If those things normally bore you, still might be worth giving it a crack anyway, I can't stand games like Fallout but because Dead Island is zombies and it's got a lot of gore it makes it a lot more fun when you do fight
|
|
|
|
2nd is pretty much wrong all over, after playing the first you'll see why it works and why the 2nd doesn't.
Ico and shadow are two games that are on a different playing field to everyone else, theyre very memorable and enjoyable games and don't require crazy skills to get them done, theres not many other games out there in comparison, theyre true adventures.

I bought the original fallout 3 and like you Jaxx within a few hours the novelty wore of and i became extremely bored with the game,Dead Island is a similar type game but i enjoy this a lot more and i find it far more intense and exciting than Fallout 3.
As i have said before patience is not really my thing and if i come across a quest or challenge than confuses me and 1 hour later i am still trying to work it out in a game like Fallout 3 then thats it for me and the game quickly gets traded.
I have had a few similar problems with Dead Island but i really like the game, take the collect juice from 2 petrol garage mission and i think you know where i am going.
Actually once you have cleared the area of 1 petrol station and drop in through the roof window you can actually load 2 juice cartons from there, but on your return the guy keeps asking you have you checked both petrol stations.
I must have spent the best part of 2 hours last night with this task and whatever i seem to do even after going and retrieving juice from 2 stations i still get the guy telling me have you checked both stations.
So because i have the main quests and about 10 other side quests going and a map on screen that is not exactly user friendly i have decided to delete the save and start all over.
Thats a typical frustrated T2D and that is what i do when something goes wrong, since i was not that far into the game i intend to only have the main quest and a side quest running instead of the amount i had before, this way i can concentrate better on the task in hand.
Some will say that after spending 6 hours or more on a game then deleting a save in frustration is a bit pointless but hey ho thats me and its no big deal because its a great game flaws and all.
|
|
|
And both the HD versions are a Snip
|
|
|
You are meant to put the juice cartons in the garage, not take them to the guy, did you not see my earlier post? I made the same mistake, the guy just kept saying go to both petrol stations even though I was standing in front of him with the juice cartons. Then after about 10 - 15 mins I looked around downstairs in the garage where the truck is and there were 2 flashing "ghost" boxes that I could slot the real ones into and the quest could then be handed in! There are a few quests like this in the game where you need to place boxes in certain spots and they can be a bit confusing!
In regards to side quests, I just fill up my book everytime I hit a new safe zone / town / village etc. so I just pick up all the side quests at once so you have a good 5 - 10 in your quest log then I just go through them in order of closest to me (by selecting them then checking distance on minimap). Then once I have exhaused side quests in that area I do a few more main quest missions then do the process over again! Argh I want to go home and play now all this talking about it
|
|
|
Ok matey once i get on to the petrol missions i will not get so frustrated, saying that the first time i grabbed a carton of juice i thought to myself you must be able to load it onto the back of truck, time and time again i chucked it on only to find it was not there when i got to my destination.
Then i realised you place it with the x button as there are ghost boxes for it like you mentioned with the juice.......[silly me]

Yea, it's a bit glitchy though to be honest mate so probably not your fault, sometimes you will throw a box on and it just disappears! Other times you may throw it on and it just freezes for about 5 secs then its on the floor again or the worst is where you try to pick up a box and it keeps doing the motion over and over like a stuck record lol the glitches at least make it interesting

Im afraid that's Dead Island done for then, as I won't be buying a glitchy game (no matter how much fun it is) if there are reviews like these for Ico/Shadow.
I've now pre ordered and will hopefully receive them a little earlier than release.

When you just said that i thought to myself was it actually released for the playstation 3 as i kind of remembered at the time it was on 360 and pc.
Having looked at shopto.net myself i then done a search and apparently it is on the playstation 3, I'm kind of sure on initial release it was not on that system but i can see now from searches that it is.
There are a few knocking about on ebay but you going to have to wait for the sales to finish,on the other hand if your desperate and don't want to trawl around gaming shops you can use THESE
