Played it for about 4 hours today and its just none stop action and a really cool game, similar to the previous 2 instalments but with much more polish.
Had a quick look at one of the other modes called Horde mode and i have to say this will be so addictive but as tough as old boots, played it on my own and only managed level 5.
Obviously it need a mate or two to have a better chance so i may just invite my best buddies on here Jaxx for a game of co/op.
Lots of unlocks and plenty of stats and and so many game modes don't know where to start really so i can only comment on the single player experience that is living up to the hype in my opinion.

I have actually had the game since Saturday and been playing it pretty much non stop , single play mission was not huge but enjoyable but really love the new game modes in multi player .
Its a keeper for me , just need to pull a crew together for playing CoOp modes . also Arcade mode is interesting .. so many modes and not enough hours in the day .

Totally agree mate so many modes in multiplayer and co/op and like you said you need some guys really, since i have limited friends on both the consoles who are playing other stuff i played with 4 other strangers last night in Horde mode which was really good and we got to level 17 before been killed.

Horde in Gears 2 was fantastic but in Gears 3 it looks absolutely awesome! I am desperately trying to get to level 50 on Dead Island before the weekend so I can trade it in for Gears but I don't think it's going to happen I'm only at 36 so I may just hold on Dead Island and buy Gears!! My housemate got it yesterday and was on it all night it looks fantastic and definitely agree about the more polished look along with the shooting being a lot better.

Hey Jaxx, how are finding Dead Island? I was wondering if it's worth shelling out for?

There are not many games that keep me up past Midnight anymore but Gears Yesterday when i picked it up had me hooked from start to finish, I played it for about 6 hours non stop yesterday evening and i finished the single player story today which was EPIC [excuse the Pun ] But it was intended.
As for Horde mode i played with 4 others and we got to about level 17 but it was a awesome fun experience and something i have not tried with other people before with Gears 2.
Obviously this is where this games shines and if only i had a wide selection of friends to team up with this would keep me happy for months, most games end up with not so much team play as trying to be the one who finishes the round on top of the scoreboard, and for the 17 rounds we survived i managed that only twice and spent the most part bottom of the pile.
Not even touched the multiplayer part of the game and to be honest this is extremely good value in this day and age for a game.
Glad we are not arguing Jaxx Mate for a change ,can not remember yourr xbox live gamer tag think it was just jaxx but i have added you even though you have not bought it yet.
Dead Island is another good game but for online this Gears 3 rocks and i intend spending a lot of time with this Horde mode for sure.
As reviews go for this game its got some cracking ones and well deserved they are to.
Oh i remembered by looking at your link on your posts Jaxx281

Its a great game Spook if you like Zombie bashing, has a few glitches here and there but a really long enjoyable game experience all the same, not got to the level Jaxx has but its a game that takes up a lot of time and patience but well worth the money.
Sadly for now i am really into this gears horde mode and all the other things this game has to offer, even playing through the single player game on my own in Arcade mode for points is a blast, even better with 4 other players in co/op.

Ta T2D. I will likely pick Dead Island up when I get my computer fixed. All the flaws means I don't think I'd want to pay too much for it but from what you say there seems to be plenty of worthwhile gameplay in it.
I played the original GoW and enjoyed it. My sister was a bit of a gears nut, she played it a lot on the Xbox. Glad you're enjoying it, that horde mode sounds like it must be good.

I tell you what Spook there are only a handful of games that i spend many hours playing online and Cod MW are usually the only thing that have me addicted.
Never really played online in Gears even though the second game had the Horde mode but it passed me by for some reason or another.
Now then this gears 3 Horde mode is in terms of fun factor when you get a good crew of guys playing has some of the best online experiences in a game mode i have had in years.
Played it last night for a few hours but this is a team game and what i don't understand is why are the majority of people that play this type of game and co/op in general not using the microphone that is provided for essential good communication and game play.
Not only are so many not using microphones but they don't even play the basic rules like reviving you when you are down and need help, that part last night was totally frustrating but the game in general is a awesome experience.
Tonight i thought lets give Horde mode a hour or two.........5 hours later i have just come of and this game has me so hooked its hard to turn the 360 of ,played tonight with what i can only describe as some really impressive team and Horde players and we actually all got to level 35 which took about 90 minutes at least.
When you were down these players were there to revive you and its one of the best experiences online with a game mode i have had in years.
Gears 3 is my game of the year so far by a wide margin and i have not even scratched the surface of what the multiplayer has to offer,i even hammered the single player game and finished it today after about 8 hours i guess and it was a Epic ride and thrilling experience.
Kind of wished i had taken more interest in the previous gears 2 and the fun i might have had online with Horde mode then.
This game mode has everything, great graphics, thrilling game play and the best mode that every Gears fan loves Horde Mode even better than the previous games.
Totally addicted to this and it would be nice if some of the others on here could team up and have a right riot with this brilliant game.
I can not heap any more praise on this game and even though i am repeating myself regarding this game ,horde mode is worth the price of the game alone and its completely stopped me from playing Dead Island which i love but this is my type of game.

i have only one of my regular friends in my play list with this game , it seems most are sceptical about the multi player as gears 2 was only really good in horde mode and unplayable in the multi player modes .
The dedicated servers in this game make multi player a joy to play , been enjoying Team death match , even though i have not been playing very well but this is more down to not being use to the TPS formate , im getting better though .
Also with it being so close to FIFA realise , some have had to choose , to many games so little money and no time .
Epic have impressed me very much with this realise , its polished and looks lovely .
I have PMed my gamer tag to you , as anybody with a team based ethos deserves a place in my friends list and im proud to have them in my friends list , obviously as a team player myself .

Ok mate will add you later for sure, what i mean when i say team player is basic communication skills and actually making a effort to revive someone in this game,I'm all for someone trying to get the top score each round but just people need to be aware of others that are in a spot of trouble or don't have the weapons or cash that they have.

SPOOK, Dead Island is great fun, there are a few flaws but they brought a patch out the other day which fixed a lot of bugs and has made it more enjoyable the gameplay is really good, lots of quests, lots of gore, lots of zombies, lots of different types of weapons to customise and the co-op is also really good fun. If you get it let me know and I will be happy to have a bash on it with you!
T2D, cheers for the add, haven't been online the last couple of nights as had a few things to do but I will accept it tonight and then perhaps over the weekend we can get a game of GOW on the go with me and my house mate!

If we can get some guys together for a private match of Horde mode then I'm in as this game is brilliant.
Hey and no hard feeling with our flame war recently ok matey

I know i keep going on about this game but its just Awesome and i find it hard to drag myself away from it when other things need doing.
But saying that this has me thinking ? MW3 gets released in about 6 weeks and it has a Mode called Survival which is basically Horde Mode but instead of the capped 50 level as in the Horde mode apparently its endless.
Now if i enjoy this Mode so much in this game what am i going to be like if indeed MW3 take on Horde turns out just as good or even better,
Tell you now if you could get 4 other friends playing this game then its gaming bliss as far as I'm concerned, there is the usual problem associated with online games like the idiot that is more than likely using his Microsoft wireless piece of junk so i get all the feedback from there TV volume coming through my headset.
Playing with a nice headset as in Logitech or indeed these PX5 from turtle beach is the best investment i have made regards gaming and i seriously believe if you are into online gaming then do away with the basic playstation /xbox wireless piece and get yourself a decent headset, not only will you love it you won't drive the Wife or Girlfriend potty while you are gaming and she won't think its WW3 going on downstairs or banging on the floor to tell you to turn it down................How sweet to be all tucked up by the fire gaming pad in hand volume muted on led television and then play it as loud as you like and chat to people which is also crystal clear compared to the basics...........What more does a gamer desire

The more I read, the more I want! I did enjoy the zombies in Borderland and I like the sound of the RPG aspects in Dead Island so I definitely will get it at some point.
Hopefully you'll still have the game and we can go cave some filthy stinking maggot ridden zombie heads in together. Baseball bats at the ready!

GoW3 sounds like it has you properly addicted for a while. Always good to see a game that comes out sucking so many hours out of your day. I told my sis about it and maybe she'll get it and I can have a go when I next visit.

Its a shame there is no PC version...
|
|

Its another reason i suppose why i bought into consoles and the same reason why i started playing PC many years ago............Games on different platforms.

I have to confess I had no plans on buying this game. I originally had GOW1 which came bundled with the xbox when first bought. I didnt like it so traded in the very next day.
After reading your posts on Friday I decided to give it a go so lifted some old games that were gathering dust and headed upto Game. Got back with the game and started on campaign mode. Great but the only gripe I have is there is too much story and sitting watching instead of playing.
Last night got into a friends lobby and played Horde mode. Fantastic just non stop shooting etc. Love it. I think BO is gonna take a back seat and this will be played until MW3.
Thanks again time2die

Not often I praise a game mate and the last time I was fully committed to a online game would have been 2 years ago with MW3.
So for me to actually rave on about this gears 3 game then in my eyes it has to be pretty decent, finished the single player over a 2 day period and now every night since I have been playing Horde mode non stop.
What's you gamer tag mate and we can team up in a party of other people or just you and me and a private match.
Have levelled up to rank 25 and got to level 35 with some real good team players who when you are down they were there to revive you, unlike quite a few that seem totally unaware what is going on around them as they are he'll bent on getting the highest score each level
Apart from that this to me is gaming utopia and I love it,be interesting to see if battlefield next week with the demo drags e away from this, even if it does I know I will be spending many more hours on this for sure.
Now if survival mode in MW3 is as good as this or even better what more could a gamer want.

If we could get a group of 5 of us together online all using microphones imagine what a awesome experience that would be.
Glad you enjoying it mate as you went out and bought it on my raving about it could have back fired and then you would have been gunning for me.
I have had all gear games but never really played horde mode in gears 2 so how stupid was I even though horde in gears 3 is revised and so much sweeter
Add me as a friend if you like gamer tag trancematic

we spanked Horde mode on normal and easily got to level 50 , that's not actually true as the boss level on 40 and 50 are not easy but its beast mode that's really amused us .
I really am a champion Ticker once my team mates have cleared a route for me , we are undecided on multi player thou , where as we seem to be getting killed with one shot from shot guns whilst having to unload three shots at close range to floor an enemy .
maybe its because we are gears noobs but we as a team are finding it very frustrating , with moments like , three of us unloading our weapons in to one opponent and losing . just spanks of the ridiculous .
So Horde and Beast , definitely , even CoOp and Arcade but there Versus modes , are not for us .

It says dedicated servers, but does it let you pick one? If not then its probably poor matchmaking causing the problem.
Dedi's wlll remove the possibility of poor client hosts, but they won't balance the gameplay any better than a good client host unless you can pick an appropriate server.

Just Horde mode is enough and i don't care for anything else as this mode where its at along with Beast mode which i have not played yet.
The basic Team Death match in this sort of game does not really work from the limited time i spent playing Gears 2.not tried 3 as I'm to tied up with the mode that i play basically none stop.

Think its dedicated in the multiplayer games but not so the Horde mode and Beast Mode as there is always a host.

True - but then I dont want to buy different systems for the different games I want. Mind you, the Windows version of Gears Of War wasn't perticuarly good (suffered from a pretty crippling save problem), and the gameplay wasn't good anyway - so I can't say I'm missing anything
