Re: Battlefield 3.....Your Honest opinion.

If you have an excellent system then it'll look and play great...but it needs to be a really really really good PC to do it full justice.

I played it for a few hours in the open beta with some friends and it was enjoyable enough but I prefer MW2 over it. I suspect therefore I'll prefer MW3 over it as well.

I like the battlelog and stats...very interesting stuff but the implementation is a bit annoying. The whole origin, then a web page, you end up going through several steps just to get the game to load.

The way steam has a web browser contained inside the client (seems to use internet explorer) would be good I think.

For a quick blast and play - find something else.

If looking for an hour or so of gaming, and getting used to others on the server then BF3 looks good.

Graphically, the shifting of the leaf shadows and lighting effects on the Xbox console is a step towards realism. Have grown to like it, big step was getting first optical sight which lets you see a lot more detail.

Pre-ordered - not yet, but thinking make this my autumn game, and if the map packs look good stick with it.

I think that's a good way of looking at it.

Especially as I have now re- pre- ordered it! tongue

BBC2 was not a bad game in fact I found it far more enjoyable than the COD bore fest that it became. MW3 has alot of hype going for it, will it be the best ever? Who knows, as Mr S says it will be good for a quick blast but my problem is all this http://www.callofduty.com/elite/whats-included.html rubbish, seems a hell of alot of flaff for a quick blast and if you don`t subscribe how much is your gaming experience going to be subdued?? In a time when money is tight for the majority and watching where your money is spent I think I might just pass.

That's the whole point though, mate. You MUST RESIST the urge to go trade in games that don't IMMEDIATELY 'do it' for you. Some games take time and a little effort before they gel with you. You've got to be PATIENT with some games sometimes!

Battlefield 3 will take more than a few hours or even days to get used to *if* all you're ever familiar with is manic fast action shooters like MW. If, however, hyper fast gaming is your bag then I would strongly recommend you never buy any games that don't fall into this category, you will be disappointed.

BF3 isn't as fast paced and I know you know that already but it isn't exactly glacially slow. Sometimes the action can be pretty frenetic. It's a world away from very slow strategical games, like, um, chess. The jets are fast. The tanks, pretty slow. The jeeps are nippy and everything. And sometimes, it's a real drag as there's no frickin' vehicles left at base as they've all been taken and you've gotta hike for miles on foot which sometimes results in much wasted effort as you'll get blown up just as you reach your destination. It doesn't happen all the time but, in my experience, it happens.

So, if you don't like the sound of this then don't get it. I know, anyone unfamiliar with the Battlefield way of playing, will maybe be thinking, why the hell play the game then? And the answer to that has to be found in the question of what individual players actually like about the game. I'm not going to say anymore about that aspect but the videos linked to by mrnelster recently do go quite some way in providing answers to that question so, again, if you don't like the look of sneaking up behind a tank to blow it up with C4 then this game is not going to appeal. For me, Battlefield has a fair amount of sacrifice as you'll be in situations where the odds are highly stacked against you and that's the draw - it's highly likely you'll be killed by that guy sat in a strategic position spawn killing everyone but it feels sooooo satisfying when you can get to the little fugger and blow him up. It might take you 10 attempts but it's like beating the cr@p out of him and feels good.

Anyway, too much insight into the mind of spook given here. If you get the game, don't expect a quick fix. Look at it as an investment into some truly epic moments and, hopefully, some great team/squad based gameplay (if DICE get that part right). The beta didn't impress at all on the communication front: the map was poor, there was no VOIP, the squad system sucked but hopefully these things will be fixed on release. If DICE put their money where their mouths are (and I think there's good reason to believe, for the large part, they have) then we gamers are going to be in for a treat. Roll on the next generation of gaming!

I can't wait!

And the joy of flattening a building that some pesky snipper uses to command the map.

Oh yes. Destructible environments too!

I was very shocked and impressed when playing the Metro map and when using the tunnels and us attackers all being holded up in one of the rooms hiding behind the usual walls, when suddenly the wall was blown up by rockets and you're all left exposed and dazed. It was really funny to think how it must've looked from the defenders point of view. They failed to capitalise on it though as I scarpered pretty quick!

It's fun just to go around with an RPG launcher sometimes. Again, the PC version is meant to offer far more in the way of destructible environments and it does add something to the gameplay other than avenging pesky snipers! I'm not used to blowing holes in buildings so much yet so it'll take a while before I change my gaming style. Did do a spot of gardening felling trees that blocked my view on the Caspian Borders map though! smile

Spook are you a propaganda tool from EA or what ? tongue

On a serious note i get your drift mate and understand completely where you are coming from and this needs a serious amount of hours to adapt to the difference from MW games .

But i have to have it like it or not and the reason i will be buying it is for the reasons you give regarding a Battlefield game.

At the end of the day if i don't like it after really giving it a proper test out i can do what i normally do with 50% of games i buy and thats a simple trade in.

My biggest problem is patience and the fact that on many occasions i tend to judge a game on what i see and play within minutes, most of the times my instincts are correct but on this occasion i will agree that 10 minutes on a beta is not really a decent way to judge if this game for me anyway is any good or not.
