This is mainly for T2D and confirms what mr ilh has said already. The single player is pants but the multiplayer is AWESOME!

I am having second thoughts Spook to be honest with MW3 just over a week away and Uncharted 3 next wednesday i really have to ask myself a serious question.
Will i play this game as soon as i get my hands on Uncharted 3 just a few days later, will i bother playing any of the previous games as soon as MW3 arrives.
I know i will play through the single player of uncharted 3 and I'm not that keen on the multiplayer part of it,but i doubt given the single player reviews of Battlefield 3 that i will be bothered to try and finish it.
To answer your question i think i should leave this game behind the counter in Blockbusters, have you got the game yourself yet Spook or are you just saying that the game is Pants based on reviewers and what they are mostly saying.
Kind of sad really as i was hoping that the game would have a solid single player part of the game to justify buying it ,but the negativity seems in general to be right across the board towards single player and i personally do not think i am going to be interested in the multiplayer after MW3 ships and thats what the majority of my friends play.........
Think i will try really hard this coming Friday to steer well clear of the shops and the town centre because the logical thing to do is not buy this game in my opinion based on what i think already.
Im still on the fence having read your link about Should i buy Battlefield 3,at the end of the day i can always trade it in for uncharted 3 or Saints row the 3rd even though I'm loosing a bit of money.
I have not given the multiplayer a chance so i think it deserves some attention as so many of you on here rave about it,even then there is no guarantee that i will like it and its release date is very close to something i love.
Im still on the fence having looked at your link

Tsk. It's all about the multiplayer aspect for BF3. In some regards, it can be seen as a relief that the single player side is seriously lacking: they spent their efforts on developing the MP experience!
No. I don't even have a frickin' dispatch notification from Amazon yet. So I expect I'll be playing this game in a few weeks time then. We'll see though.
The game release schedule is difficult for you, I know. Too many games coming out that you like the look of. I think it makes some sense for you to delay the purchase of BF3 if you don't expect to get into the multiplayer action until you've finished with all the others. That said, MW3 could well keep you from purchasing BF3 altogether so it's a shame you won't even give BF3 a go. But no loss really, it's your call.

I love new games Spook and if you were a betting man expect me to have my hands on it Friday Morning because i know me to well.
Like i said if after the weekend i don't get on with it then it can go towards payment of Uncharted 3 even though i will only get £25 for it and its costs £40.
Battlefield 3 would not be the first game i have traded and wont be the last, bought many this year that have failed to live up to my expectations and there will be others in the future.
Still don't understand why you use Amazon even though you have had a few issues with shopto and your account information, there are plenty of other online retailers to turn to.
I say this because i know how much you love Battlefield and for the sake of a few quid I'm surprised you even went the online route and did not choose to pick it up on Friday morning yourself from any high street gaming shop or supermarket.

Stand outside gamestation with it and a price tag for £40 you'll have no problem selling it

Why would some fool pay me £40 for a game thats second hand minus the wrapper when they can get a sealed one from Gamestation or any other game shop for the same bucks.
Plus once used you have the stupid EA activated policy that they use and that may cause a few issues.
You might love Battlefields Swanny but there are more and more disenchanted fans not really singing its praises.

Like mrnelster says care to share your clans thoughts and impressions because your thread is not exactly telling us much and I'm on the fence regarding getting this game.
So to hear a few negative things from obvious Battlefield fans is the kind of information that will sway my decision.
Rather get input from those type of players than people like myself that love MW games.

i am having a hard time making my mind up, they made some obvious improvements since the beta on some fronts then on others it is quite poor. servers are crashing every few maps, 64p conquest maps are laggy on the majority of the servers, lots of rubber banding, double animation reloads/equipment functions like zooming and flares as if there was packetloss, etc.
if you rebind Q/E/R/space and probably other buttons, you'll find they are hard coded to their functions and perform both binds. most of the key mapping works as expected though, mouse/controller seems to work also.
until they sort out the servers & key mapping atleast, i will hold off giving a verdic on maps/balance issues. that said if you enjoyed 42's/bf2/bc2 then you will enjoy bf3 for the sheer scope and depth of it.

Isn't Battlefield renown for taking quite a while to fix there issues with this type of game, i will decide tomorrow on this game but the more i read about it from guys that have it the more put of i am.
Anyway i found this video of a guy playing Battlefield 3 and his thoughts are not very Favourable.
Mind made up i think i will pass on this game because basically i was going to buy it for the single player experience and judging by what this guy says it hasn't got one
I know Battlefield fans like Spook are going to tell me that Battlefield is all about Multiplayer but i know where my time will be spent in that respect and it wont be this.
Think i will concentrate on Uncharted 3 then MW3 then Saints row the 3rd and thats me done for this year unless i get tempted to get the Nintendo wii out and get the new Zelda game and that new Elder Scrolls game.

Elder Scrolls games take A LOT of time so I wouldn't buy it unless you are prepared to plough at least 20 hours into it, they are quite slow burners usually but are fun in the long run. I wish I had a PS3 to play Unchartered and God of War, seriously tempted to buy one, but can't stand the trophy system the achievements on Xbox Live is a MUCH better way of doing it and to me collecting them is half the fun!
|
|
|
Uncharted 3 is going to be mighty special and i can not wait until next Wednesday to pick this up, i know what your saying about the new elder scrolls game and your correct in thinking that this type of game requires vast amount of patience and thats something missing in my games library .
You picking up Battlefield 3 Jaxx or what ? and what is your take on the reviews so far and how the single player seems to be a tacked on experience trying to copy MW but fails bigtime.
I know Battlefield is a multiplayer game but they could have made a awesome single player experience as well with there new engine.
Suppose this sums it up for me .....
NOW GAMERS TAKE SINGLE PLAYER B3

The impression seems to be large maps where the action takes place in about 10% of the space. The other 90% is just empty and nothing happens. If you don't have transportation it's a long run, often interrupted by some sniper camping in a hedge on the other side of the world.
People still complaining about hiding behind walls or other objects but still getting shot anyway.
One of my calmer mates was nearly apoplectic last night at the hit detection. Shooting people with rockets or similar, only to find them dancing along as if nothing had happened.
My teams dedicated server did crash after a few hours too which kinda killed the numbers for the rest of the evening
I'm sure a lot of peoples problems will be sorted out over time but it appears a lot of the issues from the beta seem to remain. I'll reserve judgement until I play it myself but I get the feeling I'll prefer MW3 just as I prefer MW2 over BC2.
New PC kit arrives today so hopefully that'll be £500 well spent for another 3 or 4 years.

Yea I have it on preorder from Game mate gonna go grab it tomorrow morning and blast through it. I am not particularly bothered if the campaign is not amazing, as I am getting it for the online play with my friends there are about 7 or 8 of us getting it so it will be fun to pwn some people online
Sounds like the campaign graphics are gorgeous and lots of cut scenes with not enough gameplay so maybe I can get through that tomorrow and crack on with the online play over the weekend!

Who cares about trophies its about the actual game at the end of the day,and when you got quality games like God Of War 3 and Uncharted 3 it matters not.

My head says no Spook but my heart says yes.............On any other occasion i would buy it but with so much coming out then thats another story.

I am getting it on the Xbox SPOOK.
T2D, I care about them and a lot of other people do. I know God of War and Unchartered are good games that's why I want them, but I'm not going to spend hundreds of pounds on a PS3 just for those 2 games. I just meant if there was a better point system on the PS3 I might be more inclined to get one and get more games on it, although Xbox Live is far superior for the online experience in general I think anyway so that's probably not going to happen. If I had a lot more money then I wouldn't care, I need to win the lotto....

Ok i understand but personally i was enjoying games just as much before trophies came along and achievements .
If you like trying to get all the achievements then i can see your point,i don't even bother trying to do the achievements in any Cod game never mind every other game i buy on the market.
The only achievements i do unlock are the ones you get from just playing the game.
God of war and Uncharted are not the only reason to own a Playstation Jaxx and there are far more exclusive games i could mention, one thing i will agree on is that the Xbox live service is far superior than the Playstation counterpart but that is to be expected since it's a paid service and another reason why i choose to get MW3 on a 360.
Funny thing is every game i bought about a year ago my preference was always for the Playstation with any multi platform title, now after so many bad Playstation ports been inferior i tend to buy all my games for the 360 and only the exclusive game for the playstation.
I am going to be really interested in your thoughts and opinions regarding Battlefield 3 once you get it as i know you prefer this to MW and Cod games in general.

So we all know im on the fence regarding this Battlefield 3 game so i was taking a look at all the negativity from users on Metacritic.
Now before you Battlefield supporters pipe of im not coming on here slamming the game just curious as to what these people have to say.
There are a lot more people on Metacritic that think the game is awesome but the biggest gripe form those that don't like it is the single player game is rubbish and EA online way of playing it called Origin which most of the PC gamers think is total garbage.
Not been a PC gamer for some years now and not really tied to one publisher such as EA is this Origin as bad as it sounds and what is it that gets your back up if you have been using this system to play Battlefield on your PC.
To be fair it matters not how great a game is there will always be people that will go on sites like Metacritic and dish the dirt, sometimes it may be fair and justified but other times its just pure hatred towards a developer or publisher such as EA or Activision.
I expect the same sort of reviews and moans and groans about MW3 in about 1O days and this thread is not aimed at dishing the dirt on Battlefield just the way it seems to be such a mixed bag of scores from amazing to basically dire single player and online.
Lots of them on there saying it still plays like the beta flaws and all with constant server crashes ,server hackers and terrible hit detection in some cases.

I'm sorry t2d but i can't believe how much humming and harrring you're doing about this game considering the titles you've bought and ditched this year alone!!!! You did buy duke nukem afterall!!!
|
|
|
Mate i have bought plenty of games this year that have turned out to be total garbage that is true and if you think I'm doing a lot of humming and harring regarding Battlefield then wait until MW3 is released.
Battlefield 3 and MW3 are 2 of the biggest game releases this year and all i am doing is posting what Battlefield fans are saying about this game.
I dont have the game and I'm not buying it so they are not my opinions just thoughts of other people that have the game and there views on how they think the game turns out.
Yeah i go on about this game and MW3 all the time which is to be expected and also rave on about other games besides these two.
Next week i will probably rave about Uncharted 3 and a week later MW3 good or bad and then some saints row the 3rd.
You have more than likely guessed I'm not in the Battlefield supporters club but when i watched this game about 5 months ago i was more excited to own this than MW3 .
Now after the beta and the reviews and thoughts of others I'm not that interested and thats why i post what others have to say.
As i said in the post most of the peoples reviews of Battlefield 3 are on a positive note and the ones that don't like it are around 10%.
To be perfectly honest mate i repeat myself quite a lot but all i am basically trying to do is keep the gamig forums active and alive because on many occasions you can virtually go a few days on here when nobody posts anything.
So if what i post makes you reply then thats a start isn't it,shame its in the T2D you obviously don't like the game scenario.
Not my problem or fault that i prefer MW games and others prefer Battlefield,i would have very much liked to have gone to a game shop and picked this up tomorrow but because i have never been a great lover of the game and the fact that a few Battlefield veterans don't like it then that has helped me decide.
And don't get me talking about Duke Puke em because i could write a book and yes i believed in the hype and bought the game based on the experience i had with the PC version of the game many years back.

I watched some 720p videos of the optional texture pack, and what a difference. The things like dynamic reflections in car windows and shine off of tiled walls stood out in the beta, with better texture are even more amazing.
Amazon has dispatched game, so maybe this weekend, but as am away until Sunday its no biggie

Think the HD install makes a difference unless your one of those millions that have the basic xbox 360 console with a 4 gig flash drive then your out of luck because it will only install to a hard drive.
|
|
|
Any fool buying a console with only 4GB of disk capacity was not looked ahead, just at the price tag there and then.
Given low price of flash, about time that the 4GB XBox got an upgrade to 16 or 32GB and another price cut.

Thats the problem people think they are getting a bargin then realise like my mate who bought one that he now needs more storage such as a hard drive.
Now its costing him more money than actually buying a 250 gig xbox 360 in the first place.
|
|
|
|
Can't you just fit a new hard drive to those things?
|
|
|
|
Yes you can Spook but when he buys one of them he would have been wiser to have bought the console with the hard drive in the first place.
|
|
|
Right. But all is not lost for those poor souls who have no hard drive, they can still get BF3!

Its already on the blu ray disk on the playstation version and self installs, where the xbox 360 you have to choose the option to install to a hard drive.
But if you got a basic xbox slim with 4 gig flash drive then your ******
Believe it or not mate i actually resisted temptation and did not pick my copy up and will wait until Wednesday for Uncharted 3 for certain.

I got Battlefield at 9am, got home and installed the HD texture pack then started playing at 10am and have just came off it! Played the single player for a few hours, it's ok, not sure what everyone dislikes about it so much. Its not too difficult, there are a lot of cut scenes I suppose but they are LA Noire quality in terms of lip syncing and the graphics on the campaign are sweet on the xbox. Particularly driving across the desert in a tank and on an aircraft carrier on the sea it looked very nice. The online play is where it's at and it's extremely fun, it's pretty much same old Battlefield in terms of game modes, not noticed any problems with hit detection, I have been MVP on a few games and it seems a good bunch of people playing it from all different experience scales. Once again playing with friends really does make it, I've been playing with my housemate all day in a squad with random others and there have been some hectic games, when your in the action your in the action! The firefights are great you have to work hard and as a team to push up. It shows health now too which I don't think it has before on consoles so it's very useful knowing when you need a medic.
Sorry if this is poorly paragraphed writing on my phone in bed before sleep, then another 14 hours on it tomorrow I think

Hehe. Nice one. There's dedication for ya.
Just been playing the single player through myself and I totally retract what I said earlier, it's actually pretty good. Initially I found it very frustrating but there are a few levels which really shine. I really liked the Paris level where you play as the Russian special agents. That was pure poetry in motion - nice to be able to have a fluid level where you are always on the move. Sublime.
I'm on the Kaffarov level, again playing as the Russians. The Ruskies are much cooler than the darn Americans that's for sure. Not nearly as annoying. They have a proper sense of humour and are nowhere near as intense plus their missions are enjoyable to play.
It's quite an easy set piece, hold you by the hand, type of game and for once, I've got it set to hardest difficulty setting. Seems to play really smoothly too. Not one crash, unlike Deus Ex! Shouldn't tempt fate though. Got most settings on Ultra with HBAO, AA and motion blur all off, all at 1920 x 1200. Frame rate very decent on a single 5870. Might be a different story in the multiplayer though. The guns are great too!
It's bed time and I don't know how I'm gonna switch off from all the fire fights. Dreams of war tonight methinks.

How about that then T2D gives in to the temptation of new FPS ...
