Though I appreciate the patience of these guys, there is very little skill involved. Just patience. Watch the video down the page!

I couldn't even see half those enemies, that's my problem. Keep moving the screen closer and put the brightness up. Was playing the other day and hadn't realised how dark it was.
To be fair, that guy knew what he was doing. The running shots looked a bit silly though as they did indeed look miles off. What gets me though, are the ones (like at 42 secs in) where the guy is hiding behind a crate and yet still manages to get killed.
Last night when I was playing for a bit and when my game wasn't busy crashing (thank you AM-feckin'-D), I experimented and shot at players who were well hidden and still killed them so the hit registration boxes must be significantly larger. So many times I've been killed when I know I was tucked out of harm's way.

Watching that the game looked rubbish as far as I'm concerned, looked more like the keystone cops.
How can that be actually exciting playing a war game.

It's kind of the point with BF games, although I've not played it yet, I'd take realism over gamey any day
Bouncing around a screen putting a magazine into an enemy isn't my personal idea of fun, IMHO BF3 doesn't go far enough with ballistics realism (getting hit on body armour IRL generally doesn't result in you turning around and attacking the enemy ), but I suppose they've got to appeal to more than me I guess
One game I play, Battleground Europe, you can go an hour and maybe get a couple of kills. The thrill is in out thinking and out flanking the enemy for me.
Horses for courses I suppose

I just did not think that video was very good way of showing how exciting the Battlefield 3 game is,not that its my cup of tea but i understand why people like it.

'Out thinking' doesn't seem like one of T2D's strong points.*
*To be fair, it isn't one of mine either these days. Not that I've ever excelled in the whole strategic planning dept.

That video is heavily edited to just show the hits. It doesn't show a lot of what else that guy might have been up to including getting run over or killed by enemy fire. It does look daft, very keystone cops as you said.
Also, the video graphics looked really uninspiring to be incredibly bland and are totally unrepresentative of the game as was the video clip also a poor indicator of gameplay. You'd have a better idea if the beta had been better and you'd stuck at it. In every way, I'm sure mrnelster would say, BF3 has those moments of kill streak mayhem that MW has.
But as SamsonUK says, BF3 isn't really about running around as fast as you can to glory hunt and get as many kills as possible in a short amount of time till the bell rings at the end of the round. It's far from perfect but it's always meant to have been more of a joint team effort with people rewarded for more than just personal kills.
BF3 actually goes a long way in addressing the weaknesses of teamplay rewards existent in previous incarnations but you still get a reward bias for outright kills. That said, a lot of the best places are the ones who really put the work in capturing points and defusing MCOM stations and so forth. To be honest I find the rush mode (with the MCOM stations you either destroy or protect) a bit inane (doesn't seem to make the best of sense, I wish there was more variety than just the silly computer thing you blow up). Rush mode is, however, very good and cleverly done with lots of gameplay you MW series players would feel much more at home with due to its more frenetic nature.
There are loads of play modes for each of the (is it?) 9 maps currently. That gives an incredible range really though it's early days still. Back to Karkand will add another 4 or 5 maps and each of those will have several modes of play (rush, conquest etc) so value for money is pretty amazing all things considered. You really ought to try this game mate but I understand and accept it would be folly for you to get this just now as you'll no doubt want to devote all your playing time to MW3. I really hope you have something positive to say about the single player campaign as that's what I'm looking forward to mostly myself.

Keep preaching the Battlefield Spook but it has little effect my friend and im not ever going to be converted just like you refuse to give up PC gaming and try out a console my friend.
I dont have any need to buy Battlefield with MW3 just around the corner.

Yeah I know you will ignore everything thing I wrote. I just wanted it put in writing so maybe one day you'll look back and realise I was preaching to someone who believes in a flat earth and that dinosaurs were the devil's work and that humans aren't really related to chimpanzees and evolution is just a nasty theory put in place to test the faith of all those who don't wish to use their mental faculties and rely on some old book written about an entirely different subject other than scientific method etcetera.
Sigh. Some men you just can't reach, eh? T2D. Yeah go and play with your 6 year old computer in a box with a wonky control input whilst I swish my mouse hither and enjoy the luxury that is modern gaming using up to date technology one the PC*.
*even if it does kill me most of the time due to the sodding thing crashing every hour due to damn dodgy drivers etc

Thanks Spook

I will be forever hopeful that developers will see some sense and totally remove kill/death tallies from all games and actually come up with a intelligent way of scoring for team work.
Notice the word 'forever'

Yeah, that'll be the day. But I am in 100% agreement about getting rid of the K/D ranking at the end of the round - it's a bit like removing grades for people who become obsessed with how well they 'have' done, as Robert Pirsig (author of Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance) said, scrap it and the question of how well you've done is staring back at you.
Of course, I would say that as my - cough - K/D ratio is - ahem - yargh! Naff.

Anytime buddy!

Get rid of ranks as well please
At least in BF3 we will soon all be level 45, the star bit underneath won't really notice.
Ranks are just a way of showing how long you've played the game not a sign of skill.
|
|
|
|
I still preferred BF2 ranks - you used to have do some serious grinding to get up some ranks!
|
|
|
And they need to reverse weapon 'upgrades'.
So the better you get, the lower grade weapons you get, until you only have a knife.
If they're that good, it wouldn't bother them
I've never understood the upgrading of weapons bit (I'm talking generally here, no specific game), nothing like spawning in to be faced with some kid with a nuke who's only skill has been playing the game 10 hours a day for weeks on end.
The only restrictions on weapons should be the quantity of each per server, so you don't get 32 snipers v 32 snipers.

Alot of people play games to get ranks, they like to be awarded is a part of all big fps.

It provides a goal for the nights playing, i.e. make it to the next level
In BF tasks accomplished reward well enough that its not all just K/D though some seem to enjoy it.

BF3 is an FPS not a RPG but I'd agree that some grinding teaches you that some things in life come at a cost and aren't just given away like candy (like one of the top Sergeant ranks in BF2).
And dedication like these saddos:
http://bf2s.com/rankings/hpd/
Seriously, check it out. I can't believe one guy must be playing an average of 23 hours a day? Guess he must either be a robot or have a serious multiple personality disorder whereby there's physically actually more than one of him.
I love Samson's idea about reverse weapons unlocks. It'd be so cool to be standing there with just a knife growling "bring it on!". Hardcore or what? Not much use against tanks though.

I guess I'm just DOD old school, I just dont get it, all seems backwards to me. Games shouldn't get easier, they should get harder if anything!
Give me a bolt action rifle, good team mates and some moving targets and I'm a happy camper, sometimes quite literally
