MW3 Download content ships tomorrow Tuesday but not on PSN

[link to this post]

Kind of glad i went for the xbox 360 Elite package but up until a few days ago i did not know that the playstation 3 players who went for the same have been shafted again.

Microsoft has the first content exclusive to the 360 and even though Playstation 3 owners like mrnelster have paid for the same elite package I'm afraid they have to wait a month .

I can understand Microsoft getting the usual map packs first if they pay the developers and publishers of but this time with this Elite subscription it should not have been allowed to happen and in my opinion is totally unfair to playstation elite subscribers.

Another reason why i keep hold of my 360 and don't stick to one console.winkbesides we have a few exclusives and gears 3 rocks even though there are more on the playstation 3.

Activision are the epitome of greed. Hundreds of millions of dollars in just a few weeks are not enough, so they take extra to restrict content from one half of their client base.

Contemptible company.

PC users didn't even get elite.

Probably why most are jumping ship to Battlefield. Battlelog isn't perfect but it's a damn sight better than the COD leaderboards.

24th January and I still haven't bought MW3 nor do I plan on buying it. BF3 fulfills all my FPS needs and games like Assassins Creed & Skyrim are filling the in depth gameplay requirements.

Each to there own mate and i could have said exactly the same regarding Battlefield 3,picked it up about 2 weeks ago played it for 20 minutes then traded it 1 hour later wink

Nowhere near as good as i expected and in some respects neither is MW3 but its way better than Battlefield in my opinion ? ..........Which counts for nothing.

We all like different stuff and get our kicks from different type games which is how it should be.

For what its worth i have played the new maps in survival mode to check them out and they are pretty decent, since you are in the hands of the rotation in the lobby not one time in a hour did these maps appear,so i dont know what they play like in a full on multiplayer game.

Not actually going to bother , as I don't have Elite and still have no idea why any right minded person would pay extra to have elite .

And no price has been given for those that are not part of the subscription service and let me tell you " I will just go and play BF3 rather than spending 1200MP on a couple of maps "

Haven't even bothered downloading the maps that came free with the limited edition BF3. The release maps are too big for consoles, so I couldn't see the point of downloading more. Just too much running and not enough shooting.

Why run when you can drive or fly ? Work smarter , not harder .

As you well know , I play both games extensively but have ( as has everyone else , that given it a chance ) been drawn more towards the challenges of BF3 , to the point that I'm not prestiging in MW3 and treat it as my casual kick around rather than a competitive game .

The online player numbers for MW3 , even thou it's still clearly in the lead , it's not as a convincing lead as it once had in other COD . I do honestly believe the bubble has bursts .

Will be interesting to see the take up of this map pack , I bet infinity ward won't be rushing to the press this time .
They have reported that they have a million elite subscribers which is not a very impressive number for a COD title .

Fair comment but i know within 30 minutes if not less if a game has that wow factor for me and Battlefield 3 unfortunately does not.

MW3 dont blow my socks of either even though i prefer the faster pace of the game,i think in all honesty and both MW3 and Battlefield fans alike told the truth then i think both titles have failed to live up to the hype.

I think to many people here are a little concerned about airing there truthful views about Battlefield and others simply because they have said how wonderful the game looked in previews like the rest of us.

I bet there are a few who who play it that are not exactly blown away by either game regardless.wink

It's strange how a thread about MW3 soon turns into a discussion of BF3. I don't look in on these types of thread that often as they aren't directly relevant to me as I've not bought MW3 yet.

To me, Activision are at the cutting edge of corporate greed. We all know EA have long been held as a traditionally bad example but have since been somewhat overtaken with the Modern Warfare franchise.

I refuse to pay the kind of money they want for a game they're already making tons of money out of. The normal model is once a game has been out for a while (and the length of time isn't important to my point), the game gets significantly cheaper. It isn't too much to expect that once a game breaks even and then begins to become profitable that once it's been milked enough, for it to go down in price. But this isn't really the case with Modern Warfare games and the value, for me at least, isn't there if I'm not going to replay the game at all and have little or no interest in playing online due to other commitments.

Okay, so I play on PC as I have a good system. This isn't a console vs PC debate, it's just the choice I made likely owing to my needs at the time. Where the no hardware royalties to be paid by games publishers to the guy who built my PC (ie - me), then it makes no sense at all that a title should be asking in excess of £30 (especially when distribution costs are virtually nil if being downloaded). So, I could be regarded as a bit of a miser but I really do look for value for money in respect not just in terms of how many hours have gone into developing a title and the expertise, but in consumable media and the huge economies of scale and relatively low production and distribution costs, it is extremely greedy to ask punters to pay well over the odds for something. It's pure profiteering and I will be very selected about which games I buy and when since, yes, unfortunately, that's the way it is. Either cough up or shut up.

It reminds me of how we have been shafted by the music business for so long, paying close to £15.00 for a CD or a fiver for a single. Maybe back when everything was vinyl and there was other purchasable media content of this kind (audio-video), it made sense. Your only only other option was going to the flicks or reading a book. Yes, all industries have a right to make money but rampant greed and hostile control of intellectual property in the presence of exorbitant prices doesn't exactly convey a sense of fairness. Anyway, I digress.

I shall likely buy MW3 once I can pay a fairer price (all things considered). Until then, I am totally happy with Skyrim and have loads of unplayed games to tide me over. As for BF3 that can wait too. smile

They really milk the Cod Franchise don't they,i mean how can you be selling Black ops at virtually a full priced game some 15 months after release .

Any other game within a month or so is virtually half price and if you take a copy of Black ops to game, game station,or Blockbusters i bet you will be offered no more than £8 trade in value and they have the audacity to charge that kind of money for a game that many have moved away from since MW3.

even over the Christmas period game station were charging £37.99 for pre/owned copies of Uncharted 3 which is a total disgrace for a game thats second hand.

Another £2 gets you a sealed mint condition one,and if Sainsbury's can sell brand new ones for £23 then Game, and Gamestation deserve people to leave them in there droves.

To be honest i buy 99& of my games online now from my favourite online store and the 0nly time i use either of them is when i have a build up of games i need trading, and after last years disappointments i used them a few times.

And a true gamer owns all consoles....tongue because certain must have games and exclusive only appear on a certain console.

So in your case you missed out on Gears of War 3 and a fair few others.there is more to gaming than just MW3 and Battlefield 3 matey...

And notice i also said MW3.wink

Quite interesting actually was when i downloaded the maps i spent the next 2 hours wandering why they had not appeared in the map rotation, only when searching on Google for a solution did i find you had to pick the Elite rotation from the MW3 menu which is not exactly starring you in the face.

The map liberation is really cool but the other one is average at best.

I think your eyes are going in your old age mate as the BF3 graphics are no worse than MW3. Have you played Wake Island? The water on it looks fantastic as does the atmospheric background with the war going off. With COD it feels a lot more static like nothing moves. I played MW3 at my friends for a couple of hours at the weekend on survival mode and I do like it but don't see any graphical difference to BF3, if it is better it is only slightly certainly not enough for you to keep badgering on about it! tongue

To the person who said not enough kills in BF, it's a more strategical game, plus if you jump in a vehicle from the start you will be in the action within 30 seconds tongue I usually finish a game with approx 20 - 30 kills which I think is quite a reasonable score. It's easy to talk tripe about a game if you are no good at it and don't understand the basic gameplay smile

Jaxx matey you say what you say and see and i just do the same..............Your a hardened Battlefield 3 fanatic and you just don't like the fact i and a few others on here don't share your views and opinions regarding this game.wink

And while i am on this topic i don't see any posts on me shouting about how awesome or brilliant the MW3 graphics are,in fact i have even had a go regarding this game and in some respects agree with people calling it MW2.5 .

Yes i prefer this game but it certainly does not have the initial impact the first MW had or MW2 .

Its a decent game but I'm more in love with Gears of War 3 if I'm honest, especially Horde mode which i have ranted on about for ages.

I said it. And it's not tripe as you so tactfully put it. It's opinion. And it happens to be an opinion that many people who play battlefield agree with. On a PC it's a completely different animal. And I didn't say it was awful, its just no fun running when you don't have the best connection, die and then have to run all over again.

Now, say your sorry and I won't have to come round and give you and your mates a Chinese burn.

Lol. I think Jaxx was probably thinking of T2D when he said talking 'tripe'. Any right thinking person knows you at least make sense even if the old timer is a bit like a robot with a dodgy connection up in the old brain box area. tongue

But Jaxx has a point; in BF3 you can spawn right on a squad member to get closer to the action or at a flag you've captured or just try and get a lift or something so though there certainly is more boring running to do, depending on the thought you give to choice of spawn point, you can minimise it. And it's not all wasted - just think of all the calories you're burning off! And, look at the scenery - beautiful! Lovely flowers and everything!! laugh

Hehe.

My problem is not the game. But unfortunately the game exacerbates the problem.

If you play with a sub 10ms ping, it is unplayable most of the time. There is no point in dedi's if the latency range is not selectable. If you die two or three times on the bounce, it chucks you back to base and their tends not to be any vehicles around. And that is when a lot of running becomes A LOT of running! frown

I would be prepared to live with the fact that the handling is a bit like a remote controlled Kryton, but running for miles (even if it isn't the games fault) is smegging soul destroying. If you haven't experienced that, then it's easy to believe you are some sort of gaming demigod, who can turn in 25:6 or better figures every game.

Without camping, it's almost statistically impossible to consistently score like that in a confined space (COD's small maps) with 16 players. Ironically, it's so obviously manifest in COD games, yet the instant return to action formula makes it slightly more playable for those who are affected.

Strangely enough, BF3 played beautifully for the first 3 days or so. Stuff died when you shot it. Then back to the norm. I wondered if while it was being "run in" the coding is different while they see how it goes? Either way it's unplayable for me now. frown

So what about next gen Swanny, do you plan to stay with Sony or will you be swayed closer to the time? I cannot justify two so I'll be waiting to see which looks like the best spec.

I started thinking recently that for multiplatform and DX11 support, the nextbox might tempt me. But now I've been reading rumours of a new 32 core cell processor. If Sony have learnt their lesson on developer tooling, that could be unbeatable.

I feel for ya, it's not nice having connection problems you can't do anything about. Went through a hell of a time with Homechoice way back when. Terrible service.

If you're not enjoying the game due to your connection problem then your choice to shelve it makes sense. It's a shame though.

As far as I remember though, no matter how many times you die, you ought not have to spawn back at the base if there are other options. Guess it depends on the map and everything and nobody is saying there isn't a lot of pointless running about because there is - but there are good strategies for minimising it. But that's no good if all you're doing is running to your death all the time. I've had my fair share of connection woe so I know how it feels. Guess it'd be too much for you to ask your wife to move house, somewhere closer to the exchange?? tongue

No, I'm the one who needs to move house. They can stay here lol! Only joking really. I can't afford two houses. grin

My problem is I'm too close to the fibre cabinet (host lag due to extremely low ping) and too far from the exchange for decent ADSL (0.5 mbps). Damned both ways, but it wasn't nearly as bad on the half meg ADSL as it is with the sub 10ms ping.

I can now download a game in 5 minutes flat, but hate every god damn minute of playing it!

Ha. Nice one. Guess you could always get a caravan or something? Gotta be a bit more flexible than a shed? wink

Too close to the fibre cabinet? How close are you exactly? Never knew you could be too close. I'm a little concerned now. My own isn't that far away, just 30 metres or less. Maybe yours is right outside your door or something?

Don't know too much about ADSL and broadband stuff really, just the basics. For the first time in a long time, I don't think I want to know too much. My brain can't take it any more. Not that I ever understood it anyway.

Who'd have thought the electromagnetic spectrum would be so useful though, eh? Too much technology. Not enough brain power or time to understand it all. smile

If you game on dedi's that you can choose ping levels you won't have the problem. It's more prevalent on consoles and p2p.
