Battlefield 3: Close Quarters

[link to this post]

Not sure I like the look of this.
Looks to me like they are trying to change BF3 into COD :/

http://blogs.battlefield.com/2012/03/close-quarters-...

With Close Quarters, we really wanted to take Battlefield 3 in a new direction, to offer players another style of gameplay while still retaining what is uniquely Battlefield. What journalists on site could play was a relentless infantry combat map called Ziba Tower (internally known simply as Skybar).

The clue for the theme in Close Quarters is in the title: The battlefield moves indoors, and were bringing HD Destruction! While the squad functionality and gunplay will feel instantly recognizable for any Battlefield player, moving the battle to tight maps means its instant action and even more frantic than normal.

I reckon even TD2 will like this

On the initial splash page I saw it said 2-16 player which is not my idea of bf (it is about 48-62 players short!).

The link works ok for me.
That is the vid sort of.
Looks rubbish to me. No skill just spawn die spawn die spawn die spawn die spawn die repeat for eternity

I'm not happy about them making BF into a cod style. IMO it will attract the wrong type. ie 13 year old idiots

Battlefield is meant to be exactly that, a battle in a field not inside buildings
Grr!!!!

Nice video link, that made much more sense of the trailer anyway.

My own feelings are this new mode could work out okay in some scenarios. I'd like to see more configuration in game modes, so say, you could have the two teams in a team death match type game where you only have one life per player say. Or an objective of sorts.

I think there is potential but it would be nice to have some outdoor sections as well. Some of the most enjoyable maps for me on BF2 were Sharqi Peninsula and Mashtuur City: these were open urban maps with a heavy infantry focus and were often run in infantry only mode by some clans.

You have to be careful with infantry only; it can work great in some regards but can also be pretty boring and yes, it does take away from the overall flavour of the Battlefield experience as you say, Swanny. Battlefield is meant to be so much more than just fighting in a box but provided this isn't all DICE have got up their developmental sleeves then perhaps this mode can be seen as just one of (hopefully) many deviations in gameplay.

There are a few 50 plus idiots that also like Cod Games Swanny wink Me Included even though i have not touched the game for the last 6 weeks.

Kind of bored if i am honest with most to do with gaming, old age creeping in ,lack of anything decent take your pick as the reasons why...........Spook will say old age Guaranteed tongue

Think at certain times of the year we have some serious game droughts and the last 4 months have been that period, apart from last november when every publisher in the world released there games there has been very little of interest.

As expected i lost the plot and story with Mass Effect 3 and its time to take stock and realise i dont do these long winded games as patience and story telling is not my type of thing.

The next 2 expansion packs are

Battlefield 3: Armored Kill. Featuring new drivable tanks, ATVs, mobile artillery, and more and to top it off, the biggest map in Battlefield history.

We also have a fourth expansion pack lined up for you: Battlefield 3: End Game, but details about that one remain tightly guarded for now.

Nothing more has been said about the above 2 expansion packs, proably will see stuff once CQ has been released.

Seeing as how you own a PS3, maybe you should give Journey a go?

If it entertains and shuts you up for even an hour, reckon it's gotta be worth the asking price. wink

Had Journey a week ago mate as time2die Unfortunately is a Playstation plus subscriber and those people got it a week early.

I have already mentioned Journey on here mate and informed mrnelster of the quality that is the developers thatgamecompany.

I think he downloaded Flower that has to be one of my all time favourite downloadable titles.........

Journey i have played through countless times and again its just a brilliant game from brilliant developers that now need to move on to a retail product and Sony should throw as much money as possible at them.

Flow,Flower and now Journey...........Proofs in the pudding as they say..........wink

T2D Dont miss those games Spooky mate........You should no better as i track quality developers and was even in the beta for Journey.....

T2D is dee masta killa games reviewer!

Picks it up puts it down. If it's in the machine longer than 20 seconds it's a winner. tongue

Yeah its getting a lot tougher to please T2D as patience is not my thing, from the moment Journeys intro screen sets in motion you know without even touching the controller that this game will be quality and it wont disappoint.

What thatgamecompany do is put many much bigger budget developers to shame,to me they are like Rare [goldeneye] used to be to Nintendo but sadly they have never made a decent game in the past 8 years.

As for Cloud mate yes i did play a demo of it on a PC at the time, think it was a PC only game and you know me and PC and Gaming Spook tongue

I just hope that Sony Now gives them a project or funding to make a really big game ,both Flower and Journey and even Flow are very special games but basically they are extremely short but well worth the money.

I was hoping CQ would be more in the vein of grand bazaar/seine and karky/sharqi where it is urban combat but not reduced on such a scale. The armored one will probably not be dissimilar to armored fury for BF2 and feature huge open maps ideal for...well... armor (i.e. more like oman/firestorm/kharg). I don't mind them but I do prefer urban combat.

Will have to see what they do regarding end game though. Sounds intriguing.

I just want the patch to arrive sooner rather than later (bye bye MAV elevators!).

People might complain at DLC arriving for what they consider to be an 'unfinished' game but I am glad that their investments in DLC show that they are going for a longer haul with BF3 - this is no once-a-year-new-game CoD type thing. I think it will lead to a much more refined game in the long run.

CQ will likely be the worst parts of what metro/Bazzar are like shogtungs/rppgs/nades/clays etc why its only up to 16 players.

Armored Kill could be very similar to the BF2 expansion, could see the maps:

Highway Tampa
Operation Road Rage
Operation Harvest

Make a return, though i would like to see these maps come back, i would like to see the chinese maps from BF3 though i doubt they would be introduced unless DICE take BF3 to the east.

Road to Jalalabad
Zatar Wetlands
Mashtuur City
Operation Clean Sweep
Kubra Dam

Yeah, I agree. DLC and BF; at least it shows EA are in it for the longer haul and we will get updates and patches that will hopefully refine gameplay, fix exploits and prolong the support and interest of the game.

At least the developers will keep an eye on the game and be in a position to tweak it for the better (for a few years at least).

I think its a nice idea to have some highly destructible indoor maps when they are also making other types of DLC as well, its something the COD outdated engine will never do.

I don't know but it can't come quick enough! To be honest they rarely count for many of my deaths - most of the snipers aren't very good and I am allergic to camping so I rarely present an easy target - but still they are uber annoying. And sometimes you can lose 2 full squads to rooftops which doesn't exactly help with playing the objective...

I'm with you on removing the frag rounds as its becoming very silly now .

Would also like to see AA guns get a buff or increased damage at close range as in you don't go near the opposition base/airfield in case the AA gun is being maned
.
Unloaded my AA gun into attack helicopter at close range and they just pop of and repaired and kept coming back . this is on Xbox , not sure how AA guns are on other platforms but they suck real bad on Xbox IMHO .

the AA guns are pointless, why there are no rockets to lock onto enemy aircraft i dont know, doesnt need a massive range but enough to stop spawn rapers who constantly fly around the base, this issue still hasnt been resolved....i even emailed ea and dice regarding this issue...
