Dust 514 Beta

[link to this post]

As mrnelster says it has turned up on the psn store and i am tempted given the sever gaming drought, says its free to play but if thats the case what is this £13.99 pack involve that you are essentially required to buy to play the game.

i have to say the game looks pretty epic and there seems to be a lot of tactical play and decision making, does this game have something to do with eve online, not played that either so may be PC players can give us a insight into what exactly this Dust game is all about.wink

I believe the link mate, is the command/strategy side of things.

In EVE online they decide what they want to fight over and where, and the PS3ers fight those very battles for them. Could open up some interesting clan reputation options? I was going to check it out, but I will wait until it is free to check out any lag issues first.

Have a read of the DUST 514 FAQ as it answers all the questions about the game,

http://www.dust514.com/game/faq/

Is a pretty limited entry into the EVE universe at first, only a small section of space regions and limited interaction between eve and dust but it needs to be so it can be worked out and built upon, it will be interesting to see how well it works.

I could not resist the temptation and downloaded it,not exactly that exciting in the 20 minutes i spent playing it but i dare say with more time and patience it might reap rewards.

I'd like to see how far you take this one T2D. It'd be nice to see you become master of the EVE universe or something just for shock value alone! But I seriously doubt you'll be playing for much longer than it takes you to have that cup of tea. No offence meant of course - time and patience and all that. wink

From watching another video about it all I could see there seemed to be a lot of thought gone in for aiding new players into the EVE/Dust universe and it's definitely a novel idea to tie them together like that.

Dust to dust. Ashes to ashes. Sipping tea. Furtively. Your mind is always on upcoming releases mate. Always on the horizon. Never in the present. You should practise meditation my friend. Free your mind. Empty it of thought. Become one with the silence. The terrible silence.* Ommmmmm. tongue

I have been playing the beta for sometime and I have been an eve online player for many many years.

I will try my best to explain the game. Dust 514 is an addition to the eve online universe and will be directly linked and will influence the warfare in eve online .

It will be free to play and you only need to sign up for the beta.

Eve online has many systems and planets. At release 19,135 planets will have the potential to have battles on them, eve online players can hire these dust players to capture the planets.

There are a few videos on you tube, the more recent ones from E3 are worth a watch if people are interested in the game. Also the "DUST514 Keynotes" on you tube will give more detailed info.

I would like to point out that the beta is not a demo and is a work in progress, and I expect the game play to be vastly improved then what it is now. I'm not a particular good player but I still enjoy playing it.

Never a true word spoken Spooky wink your right i doubt i will play this for long as i don't think it looks that interesting and neither does the game and the way it plays look that exciting either.

There are way better games out there than this to play,i may be a little hard as i have the attention span of a Gnat and there are plenty of customisation menus in this game and a hell of a lot to take in.

May give it some more time but i am not exactly blown away if I'm honest, the controls don't feel that fluid and the shooting is not really up to fps standards.

its going to be a dead 5 months as far cry 3 has just slipped from Sep to november..........Drat.........Don't make me buy a Nintendo wii u for gods sake else that would be desperate considering how much my Nintendo wii got used and has not seen the light of day for the past 15 months.

Hey mate, have you checked out Spec Ops: The Line yet? There's a review over at my favourite geek news site, Trusted Reviews. Haven't read the whole article yet but it looks more up your street?

Myself, I am playing CODMW again but this time on a mac laptop! Got it set to veteran but I can't get past that damn TV station level. It's a little harder using a trackpad for this kind of thing. crazy

You should go into game journalism mate. Set up your own site. You could call it Time to Play or something. You could make millions! smile

Spec ops the line has favourable reviews i grant you that, but and this is a BIG BUT [bit like Beyonce] its rubbish ?

Downloaded the demo and quite frankly i dont know how it got so many good reviews, not my cup of tea but hey ho what is lately.

Really into my Battlefield to be quite truthful its a fantastic game real quality with some tactical play for good measure.......Love to learn how to fly those helicopters and jets but for now i will stick with my land vehicles tongue

Shame you don't have BF3 on PC, I would take you up in a chopper and you could have fun blasting all the suckas down on the ground (at least for 30 seconds or so before we both come crashing down into the ground). It's usually the trees that do me in most of all. laugh

On one map you have to capture a petrol station (can't remember the name?) and it was being patrolled continually by a tank. After trying to take it about fifteen times, I decided to grab a chopper and jump out of it onto the roof of the petrol station (no parachute). I then successfully captured while the tank driver was way laid trying to destroy the chopper spinning about on the floor!

The tank soon re captured and then smashed my back doors in, but my actions hadn't gone un noticed by a couple of guys who had been trying to take the base unsuccessfully. We were soon all carrying anti tank weaponry and doing the same again. Three men jumping out of choppers onto the roof meant we soon took the petrol station and then held it! Then every time mr tank came back we were ready for him.

We still lost the game mind, but our little squad felt like it had single handedly liberated the Port Stanley Tesco supermarket. Grins all round that night! grin

Yeah i like that map but there are so many i can not remember the names of any of them, the only thing i dislike is the way the guns handle and the fact its really quite hard to kill someone sometimes.

Dont know if its better as you rank up or what ,better optics, grip ect .

Once you have proper sights on your gun, it will definitely feel better for you. Getting telescopic optics to zoom in and having the IR scope will really make a difference. I haven't played the game in ages so I'm only going by a hazy memory. Maybe Commander Swan or Captain nelster or even Field Marshall Ilh can advise? Or even that Gzero fella, he's gone AWOL again though. laugh

Tip for the helis gun position is to shoot in front of your target. It's hard to hold the cannon steady but if you target in front you can adjust your aim more easily and just shoot up a little if needed. Also, give 'em plenty! grin

Day 1 EvE multiple account player here also. Just hope that it's worth the cost of buying a playstation. Really [censored] me off when they gave 4k beta access back in December over some EvE players. Anyway finally given in and downloading the beta now, 59%....

A concept like this deserves to win but it all dipends on ccps execution of the ideas that were offered to them by the playerbase but as you say it's beta so a work in progress. Just hope they at least consider player suggestions on improvments unlike some of the betas i've been in latley where the devs just blindly ignored the beta community (mostly)

Hope keyboard/mouse support isnt too far off as i havent used a sony keypad since playstation 1 days. Can't see me liking these analog twidly thumb things much.

CCP is a great developer and its their first FPS game and what they are trying to achieve- to put a FPS into a MMO game Universe is a first, plus its free to play.

Its good to see a studio being innovative when developers only turn out the same game over and over.

For a free to play console shooter it looks pretty good and since its free you cant complain that much- its not like you have just spent 35-40 pounds on a game, you are getting it for free dont like it dont play it.

Their have been alot of keys given away, you took the payment option to skip the chance of not getting a key in the beta, the game will be free to play once released.

'DUST 514 marks a first for consoles as a massively multiplayer free-to-play shooter. Players can download the game from the PlayStation®Network and play DUST 514 completely free of charge.'

And after all that I don't like the game anyway.

Far too complex for me. I guess that will be down to the F2P format's purchasing options, but the menus could be dramatically clearer. The landscapes I played on were very dark and wide open, and getting close to other players was rare indeed, though I did think hacking the opponents vehicles was a good idea, rather than just being able to drive off in them.

I think this game is aimed more at people who have bucket loads of time to throw at it.

Hey guys. I've got sandals but not much of a beard and my hair is shaved. Maybe I'm the anti-brian?

Anyway, like the big man himself would say "You don't need to follow anybody. You're all individuals!"

Yeah, who needs to be clairvoyant in order to see T2D's gaming future? He just likes guns. Lots and lots of guns!

I hope Borderlands 2 does it for ya buddy. Myself, Borderlands 1 was pretty boring in many respects. Lots of good things about it but a whole loada poop too. Too much running around, very repetitive gameplay/enemies, a real chore moving from one area to another, repetitive and pointless variance in weapons which made it really hard to see if it was worth picking up a particular weapon over another.

There's a lot to be sick of in Borderlands but a lot of good stuff too. I hope it's better than the first. It needs to be! Else, it's going in the bargain bin.

I wasn't blown away by the first game either but its T2D here and theres a new game actually been released, much prefer Far Cry 3 or Black Ops 2.

Think it will be more fun than the original Borderlands though,if all else fails and it ends up Pants then it get traded like 90% of the games that i buy that don't hit T2D high expectations .

Got 4 games on pre/order during Oct/Nov/Dec

Dishonoured
Resident Evil 6
Black Ops 2...........Swannys Favourite Game
Far Cry 3.

And Spooky tongue i don't remember me and mrnelster given you permission to abandon your post on the forums and returning a month later.wink

Been a really terrible year for games so far and i can actually say there is not one that has been released thats worth mentioning .

Guns Guns and More Guns.........Good name for a Game that aint it ? but you are correct in your observations as i much prefer to shoot things in FP mode than most things related to gaming.

Its not hard to work out im a FPS fanatic and have very little patience to play a RPG and very good games like Mass Effect that somehow manage to bore me within a few hours..............Sorry i mean Minutes, actually just after the opening sequence tongue.

Like games to look really good for starters and nothing to complex menu wise when i have to spend the next 30 minutes configuring my character, most times i just go with the random selection .

I do try and broaden my horizons but your right there Spook, guns guns and more guns is where its at for me.

That little Autumn shopping list you got there looks good. Hope it delivers for ya. Not sure about the third one on the list tho. wink Heard it's meant to be a rip off of the battlefield series or something but with much poorer graphics?? grin

I want to just lock myself away and do nothing but play games on my (now ageing) windows pc. Still gotta work out what I'm gonna do regarding the desk situation. I know, I'm pathetic really.

If i had to pick my favourite that I'm really hyped up for Spooky Baby it would be Far cry 3.

Im going to either love Black Ops 2 or hate it with a passion,im intrigued by the use of the multiplayer engine for Zombies this time around though.

Based on Zombies alone i would buy this game regardless.
