For those who weren't allowed to stay up, the full 2 hour PS4 event.
One question remains. Does Andrew house have really small hands?

Or the first official trailer if you can't be bothered with the detail.

So I'm guessing that was you them that went to bed early Call yourself a gamer
Im just intrigued to what Microsoft now have to bring to the table having spent the last couple of years developing multimedia type production and accessories and forgetting what the Xbox360 is in the first place.......A gaming machine ........Period.
Rumours abound that they still have a strong desire to support that rubbish Kinect with version 2.0 .
Personally i don't care for any of this stuff because Nintendo was first at the table with this and milked it to death with there ultra successful Nintendo wii.
Now people have become bored with it and the gimmick has had its day, take a look at the Nintendo Wii U sales and how bad they have been.
Why would anybody Buy a Nintendo Wii U to play a HD update of a game we have already played on our Playstation or Xbox.........Where is Mario,Zelda,Metroid.......Nintendo have already become last gen already and its only been out 4 months.
Dont care for ,Facebook, twitter, amazon.lovefilm, netflix and all the other junk neither.

Motion tracking for head movement would be cool. Imagine looking to your left and right to see enemies in your peripheral view without changing direction? Seems crazy there's no solution yet...?
When you consider it, the PS4 may even be out of date hardware specs wise before it's even released. Of course, this would be true if it were not for the ability for consoles to wring out maximum processing potential (unlike Windows) but I don't suppose it'll be too long before their next gen graphics are left behind in the dust by PCs again.
I'm thinking the reliance on AMD chips as huge cost cutting exercises for both Sony and MS means they are thinking about the future, encouraging development to the max and also leaving some leeway for introducing a potential PS5/1080 successor far earlier than the 7-8 year gap between the PS3 and PS4 etc. A faster development cycle... just look at all the moaning from the PC and console gamers about aging graphics, lack of potential etc. I have a strong suspicion it won't be long before we're all bemoaning the lack of power in these consoles and the shortsightedness MS and Sony had.

No, I was there man, taking a late one for the team.

I read an article earlier that mildy rebuked your synopsis, you PC fetishist you.
Any hoo, the sites down so I can't link to it at the moment, but I can prove it....honest like.

Yeah i read that to and it was a good read.........N4G is having some major connection issues last week or so as this is the 6th time in as many days i can not access the site.

It's back up and here is the link I was on about.
PS4 vs the great discord
It will probably mean more to you and timey than me SPOOK, as I have never been a PC gamer, but I thought it to be a very balanced response by somebody that sounds like he knows his stuff, as well as being a PC gamer himself.
My analogy being, a 5mph difference in top speed between a new Ferrari and a new Lamborghini, should not have to lead to one or the other being classed as slow.
|
|
|
Thats the one.........Drat i was just about to post it.......Shamone ***** ******
Dont mean anything to me mate........Spook is the Master when it comes to PC geeky stuff because we know he is one
We don't see him to much on here because he is doing some lectures at some top brass university around the UK.
Either that or he is Hanging upside down in some darkened cave
May be with a bit of gentle persuasion from me and you we can entice him into the world of console gaming,we could even get a crew together.......Clan Like......OAP UNITED
Im sure Spook may well end up getting a Playstation 4 and then we can have some fun giving him a good hiding, mind you MR nelster you will have to trade in your latest console the N64 you are playing........

Its a interesting read, though great wall of text in some parts a few spaces in between would have helped.
A few months till E3 but will be interesting to see what Sony show off in the full release along side microsoft at the show, some may say the gap is closing in hardware specs but the PC hardware market will move forward as always.
Certain titles do well on a console platform but others are better on PC, will be a interesting few years and hopefully some interesting IP's from the developers that work well on PC and console.

It doesn't all mean much to me either mr nelly. And I already know old boy timey is as clueless as I.
Some of the guys popping into this forum, like ccxo, seem to understand a lot more.
So you're a car man are ya? Looks like you know your stuff too.

My darkened cave... I am awake! Beware Timey! Hello Nelly! I'm coming to get you!!
Now, where did I put my glasses and false teeth? Ah. Timey's got them! Yeah, I'll join you two in OAPs United Team if/when I ever get a PS4 console.

After reading MrNelster's linked article and looking at the pictures and videos the author linked to in support of his argument I am thinking he's got a point in all this Hetergeneous System Architecture malarkey that I was not previously aware of in its subtle distinctions from past APU architecture.
At first I had to google HSA but the initial results were not promising. It could not mean the human slaughter association could it? I mean, that's a bit weird. But when you put it in the context of gaming, maybe less so. And then it came to me and my understanding was furthered like a brilliant ray of light shining down briefly and filling me with wonderment and understanding except it didn't last very long or at least dissipated greatly when I saw the first slide. They were seemingly talking about how APU computing is evolving to a place it hasn't been before and that was why the guy was so excited about his 1.21 Gigawatts of computer power that he celebrated at Halloween like only a true ubergeek would.
So, um. Frustum culling eh? Yeah, nice one. Didn't think of that one. Parallelism? They always say that when they wanna make an argument. Unified address space and asymmetry (that old chestnut!) Yes, well I guess it makes sense if it's gonna reduce the latency and increase path-finding response times whilst simultaneously offloading ordinary asset decompression from the CPU to GPGPU who-gee-makals. Who'd have thought it eh? Less saturation and more frame rates is what we all want, of course!
HSA solves two major obstacles says he. Latency and memory access. Whilst HSAIL allows for entirely new kinds of GPGPU programs. Yes, yes. Of course it does. That's why SIMD programming will now be easier for PS4 developers. They won't need to worry about it all now. Easy peasy. Now at last APUs can be used to offload the CPU and praise be! Parallelism is preserved!! Amen and alleluia! HSAs are the future!
Integrated system architecture has worked wonders for the evolution of smartphones since the PS3 first came into being. AMD and Nvidia have been working on the Accelerated Processing Unit for some time now and it looks like the next gens will finally take off. Higher yields and lower cost, like I said, will hopefully all translate into new games. New innovate and highly original games that are fun to play and good looking to look at with lots of fancy pants physical things going on like realistic lighting, fog and smoke and water effects. Throw in more destructive terrain and litter the place with erm, litter. And we're talking!
Also, I reckon Sony have done a good job with the new Dualshock 4 controller and it shows they've been thinking really hard about their gaming customers. Ditto the Share button which I think is a nice thing to add but wouldn't personally use myself unless it was a really funny and special moment like killing Timey with a sneeze or something and watching him fall to his death off a skyscraper tower. Now, that would be worth recording and sharing!!
So, at the moment PCs don't have so much GDDR5 memory or true HSA APUs it seems. It will likely be a while longer before PC games developers can utilise the awesomeness too especially when you consider they will always be hampered by the average common denominator: those who've got aging PCs like mine and who would cry long and loud if a new game should come out that I could not play. Then there's the cost of all those upgrades [shudder]. Too much. Which is why I was kind of interested to see what the latest consoles should bring to the table and what they'd themselves cost.
But there's still the issue of costs of games and whether you can trade them in after. I can't see games publishers pushing for lower price points for games from all the savings they'll be making in development costs somehow. Time will tell and I have to agree that the next 2 years is gonna be an interesting time to be a gamer. Then after that, we'll all be back in the mire of pessimistic thought we've been in and complaining that Crysis 4 just looks so much better on the PC *if* you can afford top end stuff.
As Julius Caesar reputedly once said "omnibus locis fit caedes." Let the gaming begin!

Thanks Professor Spook.
It was like reading the first chapter of the Bible
I started reading it this morning but come 12pm i had to go out so i bookmarked it

It would be fun you have to admit, mind you knowing sony we could be waiting along time and i doubt the console will hit worldwide.
|
|
|
Yeah, we will probably have to wait a year from now. But it would be cool, eh? You me and nelly all firing away at Swanny!
|
|
|
How far did you get then? In the beginning there was the Pong? And from the great Pong there came along a song that went a-ding-a-ling-a-long and low, video (and then computer) gaming was born.

I deleted my facebook account and definitely don't want any of that other junk thanks

The only way we would be playing Swanny would be if the game had Battlefield in the title

Yeah i understand that my Sandybridge i5 with 6970 graphics still has about two years left in it whilst i await the price cutting for the next gen console to happen .
I also think i understand that the realise of these next gen console is a good thing for all gaming platforms as it finally pushes the development cycle along . That's right 3 year old PC looks terrible and struggles to play new games ( how it used to be )
Now i backed away from PC gaming when the xbox 360 and PS3 came out as i could not justify how much i would have to invest in my PC system to bring it up to a comparable console specification ( at the time ) .
But this gaming rig i now have was brought second hand about a year ago from a friend that was off to travel the world ( yeah i robbed him ), its about 2 maybe 3 years old and still competitive .
Hang on ! nearly three years old and still competitive , and yes im talking about a gaming rig that when i was a real enthusiast PC gamer you had a three year life cycle before you had to look at complete rebuilds .
So that's it really , PC gaming is about to get expensive again as playing a new realise on ultra setting on 3 year old hardware only shows how stagnated PC gaming has become from a 7 year life cycle of the console .
If i remember rightly the Xbox 360 and PS3 had a 4 year window in which mainstream PC gaming could not compete on price and performance , don't get me wrong a top of the line PC could still outperform a console on the console day of release but a top of the line PC is not mainstream , its elites and very expensive . myself and many others feel that a 5 year life cycle for a console is about right if they had done a 5 year , i probably never would of brought a new gaming PC .
So finally get to my point , as in welcome back the three year life cycle the constant upgrades the constant money spending the jumping between platforms in the hunt for the best bang for buck gaming experience . Its a real shame my bank manger does not have the same enthusiasm for gaming as i have .

Yup. I agree there. We need shorter turnarounds for new consoles. My own PC is running a 5870 and old Sandybridge i7. It runs everything on high if not totally maxed out. Some of the post processing stuff I don't notice anyway so that can be turned off if I need the extra FPS.
Had my current build for a long time. I'm wondering when this HSA stuff will be available for us then, it might make a real difference. And I've only seen what AMD have to offer so that'd be interesting to finally have them come back on top for CPU/APUs like the old days. Wonder what Intel are planning eh?
Well, looks like you got a bargain PC then. Most of my real life mates don't play games at all or if they do then it's on a console so no cheap comps for me. I think we will soon start to see greater leaps in graphics then, perhaps when GTA V comes out for PC that will require a proper upgrade to run it with high graphics quality effects. Haven't seen Crysis 3 properly so I'm not judging on that basis but from the screenshots I've seen it doesn't look great as I think T2D will testify.

|
We will have to go on a special Swanny hunting BF4 mission methinks and see if that's true or not. But something tells me I'd need some backup with me as I'm always getting my head shot off online. Sometimes it's no fun at all!

|
yeah i think the game boring as **** and not even as good as Crysis 2 but very familiar territory but rushed if you ask me.
Multiplayer offers nothing and i just don't like it.
Im back playing Killzone 3 a game from 2 years ago and its much more fun.
|
|
|
|
Crysis has always been about the single player, Crysis 3 is a return to form and a mixture of what the first 2 titles offered, thankfully less narrow console levels that dominated 2.
Multiplayer you have to go back to Crysis for but then its doubtful many play it now, 2 was not bad just have to learn how to use the weapons and the suit.
For the Crysis series it goes Crysis/3/2 in that order.
|
|
|
|
I liked Crysis 2 but could never get the multiplayer if I'm honest, some multiplayer games just dont have what it takes, take the new Tomb Raider game which is getting amazing reviews, only negative point been the multiplayer that gamers demand for £40.
|
|
|
|
Crysis was never about the multiplayer, its always been about the single player and what the suit can do in the environment.
Tomb Raider is another single player game, can add in co-op etc but people expect mutliplayer to come with most games these days, yet reviews look down on the weak multiplayer- have to wonder why put them in.
Single player story lines are expensive to produce so you rarely get games that are good at both the SP/MP, its usually one or the other.
|
|
|
If there is one thing I don't like in games, it's magic suits. I downloaded DUST 514, took one look at the vast array of suit options and deleted it again.
The only suits I've enoyed in a long time have been in FC3, me parasuit and me flying squirrel suit.
