Tomb Raider...3 hour Playtest...Lovely

Well i loaded Tomb Raider up tonight and virtually 3 hours later i had to drag myself away from the game to get some Kip.

Says a lot when you play a game and you have trouble switching the game of because the enjoyment is really good and you just want to complete that little bit extra.

In some respects [not all] i would say it certainly holds a candle next to the uncharted series and if anything i would say the gun play is so much better.

Its still got the exploring aspects in some form but from what i have played after the first hour this is a 3rd person shooter of a very high quality and a lot of extreme violence [love it]........

Does it live up to the hype and the reviews i would say a defiantly YES and it certainly meets my expectations and so far for me the best game to be released this 2013 without Question.

Got plenty of levelling up.......Skills,Guns ,Etc and has a map not to different from far cry and Fast Travel.....

Overhaul a brilliant game from Crystal Dynamics but those expecting previous Tomb Raider games need not apply......this is a all out action game with minimal exploring from what i have played but some amazing set pieces and plenty of gun totting action a plenty.......

Thats probably the only negative I found with the uncharted series. It's good to hear Tomb Raider has decent aim/shooting mechanics though. And if the environment is even nearly as pretty as UC2 and 3, then I'm sold.

Very much mate........But you just know a good game the minute you watch the intro and then see the lovely menu system.

Plenty of love has gone into this game.

What are the puzzles like?? I found the puzzles in UC3 to be rubbish with no real thought needed.

Puzzles are quite rare in this game Swanny its all about killing and some lovely set pieces and some amazing graphical work here.

When you do get the option to explore a tomb then they are pretty easy........for me anyway

You might spend a few days on each one so in that case this game should last you until Battlefield 4 arrives next Christmas.

That's a shame as the puzzles were really good in Tomb Raider

I read somewhere they were better than the Uncharted puzzles and with no hints, the CVG review maybe.

I prefer the hints......zero patience nowadays.

I tell you this game is a Amazing epic adventure and a gem if I'm honest,I'm still playing it after about 14 hours

Finished the game and got a 68% completion score,obviously missed quite a bit and now you get the option to go back and collect what you have missed on the island........But as much as i thought it was a really great game i dont think im that interested in doing that particular task.

After watching the credits roll i did return and collected a few things but i found it pretty boring to be honest and its a game that does not really have much replay value,tried the multiplayer and that was pretty horrendous to be honest and should not have been a added perk in the first place.

I also tried the Far Cry 3 multiplayer last night for the first time and that isn't much better,there are very few online games that hold my attention,only Killzone 3 and Gears 3 do i play online.

And the least said about Black Plops the better,and i do hope come this November we don't get the same Copy and paste scenario yet again.

No treyarch this time and back to infinity ward and MW .......Whats actually left of them and MW3 was not without its faults.

For me Watchdogs is the game i am most looking forward to,especially if Sony release the P4 in Europe around the time its out ,because its going to be on older and the new hardware.

Actually i was thinking about this and Watchdogs and was thinking why would i buy watchdogs on a Playstation 3 come november and then have to buy it 4 months later in March 2014 if Sony make the grave mistake of making Europe wait again.

I think only a announcement from Microsoft reference there new hardware and the fact that they will launch worldwide this year will prompt Sony into a change of strategy .

And then you have to laugh really to see the likes of me,Swanny and i dare say a few million others pre/ordering something that could quite frankly be a year away.......Shows how desperate us console gamers are for some new toys.

I bought Tomb Raider yesterday from Steam, it's an amazing game! I am a massive fan, the shooting mechanics are great fun like you say and all of the set pieces are good. I wish there was a few more puzzles to do but I am enjoying just exploring the island at the minute and stumbling across random challenges to do etc. The story so far seems really good and it's one of the first times in a while that I have actually stopped to read / listen to everything I pick up such as the documents, scrolls etc. It's really interesting learning about the island and it's history.

On another note I have plugged my lovely shiny new gaming laptop into my TV through HDMI and am using an Xbox controller to play, this is the first game I have done it with (everything else has been MMO's so keyboard and mouse) and it's a great setup! I can now sit on the sofa playing through my big TV and have the benefits of better graphics than my Xbox could ever dream of. HAPPY JAXX!!

Yea it's brilliant, can't believe I haven't done it sooner! I have ordered Batman Arkham Asylum & City today to play through using this setup as well and I am looking forward to trying some other games on it.

I have to say though it's odd playing a game and not getting achievements, the Steam achievements just don't cut the mustard haha. I feel like I am actually playing the game just for the game now instead of for the achievements as well and all of a sudden finding hundreds of collectibles seems like a pointless task

I know what you mean, I was playing FC3 (must get around to finishing it) for a while and got bored of looking around for relics, seems like a totally pointless thing to do. Oh look there's another one of those grey weird looking things, only another 78 more to collect.


I've never seen the point of trophys in PSN. Who gives a feck about them??
I got a trophy in BF3 the other night because I rode my dirt bike off of a big jump. Something like "This ain't no sidecar" Great :/

I suppose if you're 13 or T2D they might amuse you for a few seconds

amazing game

the first few hours really did pull me in and i was pleasantly surprised

apart from the TressFX causing stupidly low fps on nvidia cards which im sure simply needs a driver profile update this game overall is well optimized and smooth and i cant see me playing anything else untill i finish it

You'll get smashed up online if you don't go for the mouse and keyboard though.

Online is a waste of time and all it does is put a fantastic single player game to shame,its tacked on multiplayer is just plain boring and stupid and something you will play for 10 minutes and then decide this is a waste of my time as there are much better deeper games with a lot more going for them online than this.

As a single player game they don't come much better,but as a multiplayer game that don't get much worse,not even as good as Uncharted and i found that pretty dam boring.

Its a expectation in this day and age and gamers expect some sort of multiplayer,but certain games like this and the upcoming Bioshock Infinite [single player only thank god] don't really need multiplayer just a top notch single player experience and Tom Raider is certainly that.

Never cared for trophies either i have no time for them, a better reward structure would be to give players discounts of games for achievements rather than the trophy system.

Yea the trophy's never really appealed to me but on Xbox I liked the achievements as it was points, I think it's a better system than the PS3 one.

In regards to the person who said the comment about keyboard and mouse I would definitely play with that for FPS games on my laptop for single player games like Tomb Raider, Batman etc. I think a controller is much better.

Oh T2D I meant to say as well that on Xbox you do get discount off games for achievements, not a lot mind but if you have 10k you get 1%, 15k is 2% and 25k is 3% I think. I am hoping they offer a 5% one in the future for 50k that would make it a bit more worthwhile. Still when you're a Fifa addict like me buying packs every little helps

Tomb Raider is a class Game Spook.

Generally Swanny is a good Cure for Insomnia and his posts regarding his battlefield banter seem to have that drowsy effect on me,seems to be the only game that has graced his ageing system.

Im amazed it still plays and the disk is not shot to smithereens .

I played BF1942 so much in the early days the disk cracked* but I think the Samsung hyper speed CD ROM drive I had might have had something to do with it too.

Anyway, I thought my ravings were your cure for insomnia? Looks like I got competition then!

*Actually, to add, the disk didn't just crack it exploded in the drive and killed it. Murder! I took the drive apart to take out the sharp pieces of CD but it had cut through a flimsy cable. Shame really.

Yea I'll get Bioshock Infinite too when it's in the bargin bin
The joys of not being in a rush to buy a game when it first comes out unlike some people here
I still have Skyrim, MP3 and FC3 to finish anyway

By the time that game is in the bargain bin the Playstation 4 will be out,and i do buy what games i like unlike some on here i actually support the developers and the gaming industry.

I have never played the Bioshock games to be honest mate, well, I played Bioshock 1 and I did think it was really good but then something else came out and I just cast it aside never to be picked up again.

Gears Judgement not too sure on this, haven't read much about it at all! I like GOW3 but I didn't actually own it my housemate did but I used to play Horde with him and played through some of the story.

I've nearly finished Tomb Raider now, will probably have it done over the weekend.... I've said it before and I will say it again it's a brilliant game! My only dismay with it is that the tombs are really easy, it's like 5 mins to complete them But as you said previously it is more of a third person shooter really, Darksiders was amazing for puzzles some really difficult ones!

Im on my second play through with the new Tomb Raider game and i really like it a lot.problem is with this game there is not a lot of replay value once completed and the multiplayer is as expected total trash compared to many other decent online multiplayer games.

But it such a good game i would be very hesitant to trade it in because i think its really well made.

I was going to pick up God Of War Ascension today but that has had some really mixed bag of reviews ranging from pretty decent to terrible and a waste of a franchise.

Same with the new Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 game that the Americans have had since Tuesday,that game has been slammed to death on Metacritic even though its using the Unreal 3 engine,mind you when i see a new game at £29.99 alarm bells start ringing.

Im really hyped for Gears Judgement next friday even though its been developed by Bulletstorm Developers People can fly and not the normal developers.

From what i have seen it looks awesome and Bulletstorm was a really cool game when released.

The Unreal 3 engine is getting on a bit now anyway...

Yeah and also the fact that Gears Judgement next week is the only exclusive content that Microsoft has on there 360 this 2013,my how things have changed and the Xbox 360 been the gamers choose and by far getting the best ports of all multi platform games.

Microsoft seem to have lost there way as to why we buy gaming consoles in the first place,so much direction seems to be focussed on media stuff and everything thats not game related .

I really think when Microsoft release there press conference for there new system they better focus on something pretty outstanding with new ips and some killer specifications else there new console will not be able to compete with Sony new Playstation 4.

Sony have learned from there mistakes and there arrogance and the Playstation 4 is going to be so more developer friendly .
