So its Called Xbox One With Voice Control Activation [whoopee Do]
So the first 15 minutes stream its all about Multi Media features like Skype and ESPN not a single mention of a Game
Mind you we have seen the console.......Looks like a large Black Brick ..
Right its finished.........
No price announced.
No release date announced
No mention of the machine been always on [but im saying it will have to be]
33mins into the presentation before a mention of a game.
Reasons to buy one....Alan Wake developers Remedys new game Quantum Break.
Reasons not to buy one.........How long you got...........
I have seen nothing in this presentation that has me slightly excited about buying one,I will say the show focussed on multi media activities that looked very nice if your into that sort of stuff and the voice recognition was impressive.
But this is not a gaming machine Unlike Sony Playstation 4 and i feel Microsoft has lost there way
They did mention they have 15 brand new IPS in development and all coming out in the next 12 months,8 of them been brand new.
We saw the new Infinity Ward Call of Duty Ghost Premier, looked very nice on the new engine, not jaw dropping and this will also be on a Playstation 4.
Obviously Microsoft have pulled a card again and got exclusive downloadable content first on there platform for the future Cod Game.
I could not Guarantee i would not buy one eventually if things change, but i know where my moneys going at the end of the year and its not a Xbox One based on what i have seen
Oh and it has 8 gig of ram but they failed to mention what type unlike Sony with its GDR5 ,so sceptics are presuming its GDR3 on the aftershow.
Now talk of processor speed either ?
What do you guys think.......Impressed or underwhelmed like me
Another thing.......Still going to charge for Xbox Live as there was no mention of dropping it,at present watching the ign.com after show where most of them are underwhelmed and have basically the same views as me and highlighted the fact not a single mention of a game until 35 minutes.
Playstation 4 = 1
Xbox One = 0
E3 for part 2 but personally i think in the coming days/ weeks this is not going to pan out over the internet in Microsofts favour and i feel most will feel that this presentation was not a patch on Sonys and I'm guessing a Sony HQ they must be popping Champaign

Not impressed, really lost interest when they rolled the Hawk from EA out. Lost count of the "Connected" mention. Not a fan of CoD. However always prefer watching SC FI than playing one!

Just seen the trailer for Ghosts, doesn't look that much different from current gen stuff - add to that the fact the trailers always make the game look better than what they actually are. However, it looks like they've added a dog, so maybe we will see dog DLC
Other than that, the new Xbox and the PS4 have just about mustered a "meh". Social gaming isn't really my thing, but then again, not many games recently have even really pipped my fancy. The last time either my PS3 or XBox 360 were switched on for gaming was around xmas time. I think my Megadrive and Snes have been on more since then

More about the dog in COD.

Indifferent. Not going to rush to purchase either. Would far rather drink champagne than put down cash on them until the software starts to match up to the hype.

Well I though it was going to be in the evening US time, i.e. something like mid-night in the UK ... so missed it.
... probably a good thing.

Looks like a cheap DVR
Skype yeah and everyother device already does that
Will Kinetic work in a smaller room, i.e. terrace lounge with not much light?
CoD Ghosts some nice effects but need to see decent HD footage to be sure. The environment changes may excite CoD but have had stuff like that in BF series for a while.
The persistent worlds idea, if it works well could allow for really large games - maybe
Will I buy one, probably but only if price is right and games show a significant UP in wow factor compared to 360. Once into gameplay you don't notice the textures when its a quick game.

Didn't watch the show live but this article offers a nice little round up of some of the major selling features of the new Xbox.
Points of note for me:
- 8x faster than previous Xbox (is that all?!) - processing power doubles every 18 months or something, Moore's Law. How long has it been?
- Cloud based processing (for future) - hence always on requirement - good bandwidth and solid connection required for games rendering. Maybe Mr Toad will see his server side anti-cheat system come to fruition?
- Voice activated channel changing (dubya tee eff?) - I wonder if it can distinguish between daddies and mummies and their kids?
- 500GB HDD - games must be installed but support for blu ray disc media (long potentially very long install times then!)
- Force feedback - added to the joystick things for fingers. Um??
- Larger than before - but far more silently running (hopefully they've learned from before RROD).
- No price - everyone's hoping it'll be priced aggressively (ie - cheaper).
- Release date - end of this year (but is that in the EU too?) AMD are gonna be VERY busy!
Games, games and games? What games? COD Ghosts looks good but there doesn't seem to be any environmental destructability? Well, just some logs falling and things. The fish are now afraid of you. Woo. And there's an interactive mutt as a pal. I wonder if you can play as the dog?
Did anyone see the Quantum Break game then? Any good?

And they are going to take a scoop from the 2nd hand market, apparently there is going to be a fee to play 2nd hand games, so t2d you'll probably be offered even less on your trade-ins' I reckon.

More FAQ
Q: Will Xbox One allow players to trade in, purchase and play pre-owned games?
A: We are designing Xbox One to enable customers to trade in and resell games. Well have more details to share later.
An earlier question...
Q: Does Xbox One require an always on Internet connection?
A: No, it does not have to be always connected, but Xbox One does require a connection to the Internet. Were designing Xbox One to be your all-in-one entertainment system that is connected to the cloud and always ready. We are also designing it so you can play games and watch Blu-ray movies and live TV if you lose your connection.

Did anyone see the Quantum Break game then? Any good?
If you had read my post dearest Spooky you would have seen that was the only reason i would buy one, game looked quality but I'm afraid besides that the presentation was pretty dire to say the least.
Sony next marketing campaign should be.......Be Afraid,Be very Afraid
Tell you now and based on that Microsoft multi media revolution device Sony must be laughing because i know that Microsoft have just given Sony a few million customers if not more.

I did read your lengthy posts, Timey, honest! Just maybe not as carefully as I could've maybe.
Yeah, I guess a better way to phrase my question would've been - has anyone got a link to game footage of Quantum Break as I coudn't find any on Youtube.
I've read a little about fans reactions and there's plenty to say MS did not focus enough on the gaming, which is really silly. But, unlike many (it seems), I wouldn't say MS are wrong to offer so many multimedia features. In the long run these will make more sense, both to the consumer and to them (of course). Remember, people will have these new consoles for the next 5 years or more before they're replaced and by then, it might all be cloud computing through Apple TVs or something and no need for consoles, no optical discs and no trade ins or nuffin. So quit your complaining and get with the programme old fogey! Times are a-changing!

It pretty much sums it up.
Currently I am going over to Linux as a project to move away from Windows and I found Zorin to be a very nice distro with a windows feel to it and I was playing portal for Linux last night off steam.
Now MS are saying that they want to compete with all the smart TV's etc with just a big media player?
So money will be staying firmly in pocket I reckon but we'll see what steam does with their box.

Yeah only Steam and Apple look like they will challenge Sony because it wasn't a very gaming orientated presentation was it.

Was looking forward to buying 2 next generation consoles this year but sadly this wont be the case.
Unless Microsoft was just kidding us last night and it was a Alan Wake American Nightmare and then i woke up in a cold sweat.

Marketing 101.....if you got it, shout about it. I don't believe they've got it and to be fair, Sony conceded it last time only with their convoluted architecture. Their first party exclusives showed that.
The tables have turned it appears.

Big time......Can you see a turnaround at E3 mate because I can't ,you know how many times I have been singing Microsoft praises in the past, talking how better multiplayer games are and there all but dead exclusives like Gears.
Since you don't have a 360 I bet you don't really give a rats, but as a Gamers perspective it would have been good for the game industry to have 2 power houses which would have bought the best out of developers, especially those exclusive to there platform .
I'm that depressed I have just ordered a Nintendo Wii U...............
NOT.

I'm that depressed I have just ordered a Nintendo Wii U............... Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
To be honest mate, I didn't buy an Xbox because it has a stupid stick configuration on its controller. People who bleat on about it being better, have just gotten used to it. It is pants.
I've heard it touted as more flexible. How? You wouldn't claim riding a wonky handle barred bike adds extra capacity for bell ringing. It was a clumsy compromise from the original d-pad and button controllers. You'd have to be a fanboy to stick up for it. Does it do the job when you get used to it? Probably, but so would glueing a red dot sight between the sticks, given enough practice. Even then you'd probably end up requiring neck surgery eventually.
No mate. I'm all for variety and choice, but unless one of the supposed 40 controller tweaks they have made is levelling the sticks, I'm out. Even if it matches the PS4 entirely, I would still plump for the intelligently, ergonomically designed dual shock. The Xbox controller sucks ass.

Playstation Network is free. That's 100% better than not free.

Had both, mainly in the earlier years the 360 did the business, conned the wife into PS3 due tis blue ray However for me the PS3 was like a good brie, better left out to ripen and it got better with age. ( I really like smelly cheese, even Casu marzu), however fell out with Sony only last year when the phat decided to totally decompose on me and I had hissy fit when Sony would not send me a new one, only offered reconditioned slim, I declined the offer and sold it for parts.
