Not bad at all! I would have been tempted if it wasn't so close to new console release.
I spent a bit of time watching all the trailers on Xbox Live last night for the new games coming out, I hadn't actually bothered yet. Quantum Break and Ryse look so good, I am half tempted by an Xbox now haha I may end up just buying both!

Playstation 4 fans only.......
Still not remotely interested in a Xbox One and i can not see much changing my mind, personally i see no need for both and like i have said on many forum threads Microsoft shot there bolt with me with there original ideas and reveal back in May.
Nothing on that system evens interests me even there Respawn [infinty ward x employes] Titanfall doesn't convince me either.

its games that make or break a console obviously right now ps3/xbox360 are the better consoles over xbox1 and ps4 due to the far superior games catologue. I can understand people getting a new console as they impatient and want the latest, but I wouldnt sell a current gen to fund one, if the only way to get the new console was to sell the old I would keep the old for at least a couple of years.

Yea I will still keep my 360 no matter what I go for as I still have a lot of games on that and I am sure stuff will keep coming out for a while!
|
|
|

That is a great deal considering the games alone are worth £70ish if you shop around.
|
|
|
I doubt Jaxx once you get your next generation console set up and running when ever it is and then put Battlefield 4 ,Watchdogs ,Killzone Shadowfall or whatever you will revisit that 360 very often if not at all.
I undertand that there are great games that people still like to play on the current system and there is one thing i have never understood about gamers and newer technology and there craving for old retro games from the past on either the Playstation store or Xbox Live.........I just don't get it and never have.
If you want to play old sonic the hedgehogs and playstation 1 games why bother upgrading in the first place,im not on about you mate but a lot of gamers in general.
Even Sony and Microsoft make extreme amounts of money releasing games from 10/15 years ago that look well and truly dated........To me its pointless but obviously people are buying them and using there current systems that can produce quality like The Last of Us and playing [censored].

If you want to play games like Infamous Second Son and Killzone Shadowfall then you have no choice but to upgrade, isn't that the point as technology moves on.
I doubt you have a Nokia 3210 from about a decade ago and a doubt you got a massive old school television taking up the enormous space in the corner of whatever room you got it in.
My guess is you have a plasma,LCD,LED HD definition and a smart phone such as a Iphone or Galaxy,or HTC,and then more than likely a tablet.
Dont tell me when you upgrade your phone you pick something from 5/6 years ago.

Both have some interesting looking games at launch and its expected that both systems are going to take quite a few years to build up a decent catalog of games, its obvious that the Playstation 3 and xbox 360 have more games as they have been around for the past 7 years.
But how many games are worth playing once finished and how many games end up having a decent online experience, take the brilliant Far Cry 3 and Tomb Raider, both fantastic single player experiences but both with anything but when it comes to the tacked on online experience that is quite frankly junk compared to say Cod or Battlefield.
Even the mighty The Last Of Us does not blow me away online and within hours i had enough of that part of the game.
There are very few games that actually require keeping, and the only ones worth keeping are the ones that keep you occupied online once the single player experience is over, and those are few and far between and thats why Trading of games is a must and never be done away with like Microsoft officially wanted to do.

The games a Freebie when the playstation 4 gets released, well sort of as its not exactly the full game [Catch 22] but more of and open ended trial.
And saying that mate do you know i wont even bother downloading it because i hate driving games and find them totally boring along with anything Sports Related such as FIFA and all the other EA junk they keep churning out in that department.
The only driving game i ever liked and spent months on was Crazy Taxi on the Dreamcast and thats now about £2 on the playstation store and I'm still not tempted as good as it was in the day its something i don't like doing on a machine much capable of better.
Just like Minecraft that looks like some 8bit game from 25 years ago i don't get it....Thats my personal opinion and i will not be craving old playstation 3 games apart from a few once the Playstation 4 arrives.
I buy a next generation console for a next generation look and expect to see a major upgrade in games we play at present, with Jaw Dropping Draw distance and not terrible pop up and glitches because the machine can not cope.
Nothing worse than playing a game and seeing the mountains or scenery loading as you advance forward, isnt that the point of more powerful equipment .
Developers Guerrilla Games have already stated that Killzone Shadowfall would not be possible on the playstation 3 because of Ram restrictions and everything else.

I'm with you on Minecract mate. Each to their own I guess and I understand addictive gameplay, but block sheep? Really?
As for open world games, I loved FC3 from a game perspective, if not from a technical perspective. On PS4 that would be a great open world to explore. I would have liked to have played Skyrim, but the PS3 issues put me off even bargain binning it now, and I don't think the elder scrolls online model is for me either.
It would be nice if they released a new elder scrolls game for the PS4 though.

There are other uses to a PS3 than gaming, like using it for streaming services such as Netflix or watching bluerays. So even if you wont play games on it any more it could still be useful. Obviously if all your TVs are already capable of these things then it is no use.
|
|
|
I still use my W995
Must get around to finishing FC3
|
|
|
|
I never understand how people can drive from outside the car like that , it's ok on GTA etc but not on a proper racing game
|
|
|

Good point. I don't have the tele here but I use my PS3 to watch F1 on the iplayer and for DVD's etc

Agreed I always take the in car view whenever possible .

Yeah my tv well capable to do these things and other gadgets do a similar thing,I have a stand alone DVD player but I do stream twonky through the playstation 3 that picks up my wd/mybook live home server unit so I can watch the films.
Besides wont the playstation 4 play blu/rays and have the same media server capabilities .
Netflix ,love film and all the music channels and other media functions don't interest me in the slightest, besides my Sonus system and Spotify does me a treat for all that stuff.
There is little to no need to use Netflix when you subscribe to sky movies and all the rest of the subscription tv.

I'm sure mate we will get some decent games like Skyrim that may interest us on a Playstation 4,as for Far cry 3 it would have been brilliant on the P4 .
To be honest originally I had the 360 version, having got rid of Microsoft console after there terrible reveal I picked up Far Cry again on p3 and my god this plays terrible, really slow and juddery with k
Lots of glitches and its far superior on the 360.
This is why originally I was a avid supporter of the 360 platform ....so hopefully the Sony Playstation 4 does not suffer from a similar fate when multi platform games arrive and I see little reason to see that they will especially if you talk to developers and there praise for the system.
|
|
|

In your case it is of no use because you have other devices/services that cover those features. But if you didn't it could be useful, like if you have a TV you don't game on but want streaming/DVDs etc then you could leave the PS3 set-up there.
In my case I have 2 dumb TV's and a monitor (27") which I shift my PS3 between, so if I had a PS4 I could simply leave the PS3 hooked up to one of them for media. Don't have Sky and have no intention of getting it.

we are clearly very different types of gamers.
eg. to give you an idea of my pattern.
I have played star ocean 4 from start to end probably 20-30 times.
vesperia at least 10 times.
lost oddysey at least 5 times.
final fantasy 7 dozens of times.
I regurly play snes/master system games on an emulator.
I play old dos games via dosbox some I have played thru multiple times such as imperium galactica.
I deliberatly sourced a fat PS3 last year so I could play ps2 games on it.
final fantasy 13 4-5 times and the list goes on.
This has left me with many new games I have that are sitting piled up waiting for me to play, as I keep replaying old games due to me getting the crave to play them again. Ironically its the games with not so cutting edge graphics that I tend to prefer.
Kingdom hearts 1.5 got shoved through my letter box today, another game(s) added to my todo list.
Whilst on the other extreme is a different type of gamer, which I believe is the category you fit in although I could be wrong. Such as buying games the moment they released (typically pre ordering), playing them as soon as they arrive, and exhausting the game within a very short time at least on single player. Then after that rarely if ever replay it, just moving on.
Of course when you understand my style of gaming I hope is another reason to understand why I dont like online games so much, games that have a online requirement are very unlikely to be playable in 10+ years time.

Wow that is a lot of gaming, the only game I have played through more than once this generation is Deus Ex and I stopped on the second play (would like another play through though). there are simply too many games and not enough time to play them.
|
|

Each to there own mate,if thats what you like doing playing older games over and over then thats all fine and dandy but to me pretty pointless.
Once most games are played unless they are mind blowing...Example ..The Last of Us or have brilliant online experiences .......And I'm not talking Chu Chu Rocket there is little need to revisit them as you have seen all thats on offer apart from collecting some trophies or obtaining a higher finished percentage and neither of them appeal to me.
If what you do is enjoyable to you then go for it,what i will say is what i said earlier in the week to someone else on this forum,if we all had the same mindset as you then there wouldn't really be a Game industry as we know it would there really.
What i mean is if we all at some starting point bought a load of games and continued to play them for the next 5 years over and over and never bothered with new stuff that had been developed where does that leave us and how could developers continue.
|
|
|
Not saying what he is doing is wrong its certainly value for money if you can play games over and over,my attention span has got worse since i get older and a game has to blow me away from the start for it to hold my attention.
I am a Graphics [censored] and I'm not afraid to admit it,and when games just look really bad I'm not that interested in seeing what they have to offer.
I have bought plenty of Christmas Turkeys throughout the last few years but nothing excites me like a new game or Gadget, problem is many of them games fail to immerse me or excite me in the way i remember in the past.
I have not always been graphic orientated but have moved on with the systems we have before us,i had many great days playing games like Blast Corps,Donkey Kong,Zelda,Perfect Dark,Turok Dinosaur Hunter, secret of mana on the snes, puzzle games that occupied me for hours like Bombbliss and old school classics like Super Metroid on the Snes and Metroid Prime on the gamecube.
Not forgetting Goldeneye and Wave Race 64 and 1080 snowboarding ,oh and Zelda and many more.

I never understand how people can drive from outside the car like that , it's ok on GTA etc but not on a proper racing game Me neither mate. I think it's because its slower and supposecly more manageable that way, but I think it's boring and unresponsive. I prefer the high speed sensation. I don't even want to see the steering wheel or bonnet.
|

...there are simply too many games and not enough time to play them. Thats the reality for most people right there. I know people who will return to the cinema the next night for a second viewing of a great film. I can't get my head around that.
|

In my case I have 2 dumb TV's and a monitor (27") which I shift my PS3 between... In my case I have two dumb daughters* who will get a PS3 in their room each (when I get around to sending the fat one off for repair).
Then I might get some peace and quiet on the PS4!
* I actually have three dumb daughters, but only two PS3 consoles.

If that works for you then fair play, but time2die is right when he talks about supporting the gaming industry, even though most of us aren't consciously doing so. If we people didn't try new experiences, good or bad, the supply of great second hand games would soon dry up. For every great game you have played 10 times, there are probably 20 ducks and that is because people try new experiences, good or bad. If they didn't, creativity and innovation would be stifled.
Early adopters are pioneers.....somebody give me a flag to wave.
|
|
|
Worth the piece and quiet and investment then matey Sounds like a good plan to me.
As for fixing the Fat Playstation 3 might be better picking up a second hand one because its more than likely cheaper than the fix.
|
|

I like to see the bonnet
|
|
|
|
Just out of the windscreen does me fine and i do hope in GTA5 we get this option but i doubt it.
Mind you there will be plenty more to do than just driving cars and i hope the vehicles in games are a lot more user friendly than that Battlefield Game.
I could not operate anything Air related in that game and it kind of spoilt my experience with the game and found it really frustrating, saying that i saw plenty of people in game whirling around in Jets and Helicopters and they seem to have mastered it completely .

Fatty has extra USB ports/BC/card slots, so ill probably just fix that. And at least I'll know it's had it's mid life crisis, unlike a second hand one.

I'm a bit rubbish in a plane but pretty good in a chopper. Death from above
I played BF3 last for the first time since june and even managed to top the scores in one game. Which was a bit of a surprise to me.
I did notice that nearly everyone is now at level 100. Looking forward to BF4 when everyone has to start again.
Think of all those kids that have to rush to be level 100 again. [censored] buckets at the ready haha
|
|
|
|
I want to fix my fatty too. It's much better than the slim one. Just needs a new disc drive
|
|
|
I will fix them both with my sledge hammer no problemo
|
|
|
I think the planes/helicopters in Battlefield are fine, I like the fact that they require you to spend time to master them. I do think though that there should be a training map you can load and practise by yourself. I was always put off practising much on multiplayer when I usually ended up crashing I mainly stick to tanks.

the answer is they wouldnt, this is the true reason why the new consoles have no BC, they dont want people to play old games (unless of course its rereleased as a remake), also with so many games having a online requirement now those games also will be dead in a number of years.
There is many gamers who buy a game as soon as its out, they play it once in blitz style finishing it off in hours/days and then they trade it in for the next new game. Its those type of gamers the publishers thrive on. Unless of course its multiplayer then they may keep it longr but even then those type of games tend to have annual releases to ensure repurchase such as COD and magic gathering. I am most defeintly not the type of gamer publishers like, I also traditionally wait for price drops before buying a game eg. ff13-2 launched at £50 and I got for £20 2 months after release. I never buy used games unless its the only option, I think buying used games is silly when new is available, often only a few £ cheaper than new at best. What has got my goat up tho and forced me to change some purchases is these pre order/timed exclusive's, meaning if you dont pre order you dont get that content "ever". Since I am a completionist I get very annoyed if I am even missing a costume or single weapon. Since I am a big FF7 fan eg. I feel I have had to buy ff13-3 pre order from game under duress to get the cloud costume. (I hate game but its a retailer exclusive). I accidently ordered it twice and before cancelling an order I asked game kindly if they could verify if I ordered twice , they said no problem you only ordered once, they lied to me in the hope of getting an extra sale.

More often the demo is enough for me and because of it I don't want to buy the game.
I'm careful with my money these days I have other hobbies to waste it on, so I do the same as you and wait for the price drop. If software companies go out of business because of the likes of me then life's a biatch and hard luck on them. I certainly won't lose any sleep over it.

I've been slurping over this deal but if I blow £200 now (which does seem like a really good deal for what you get) I won't have no dollahs left for the PS4. I think it makes sense to wait till some time after Xmas and get GTA V when it appears on the PS4.
From what I've read it's highly likely a PC version will be coming at some point too. There's meant to be mention of next gen and PC versions hidden in the game's code that some clever people have discovered. Might be they're misled but I suspect not (and hope not too).
Good (torturous) deal tho. But I wanna PS4. Next gen baby!

Its a massive game Spook so some time the Graphics look really sweet and other times not so good as expected with such a large game, the cars handle Pants! as usual.
Its GTA though mate and the script, story, characters are all top notch and the voice acting is brilliant, hardly touched the game...
As for the playstation 3 deal then that depends how you look at it and how quickly both The Last of Us and GTA5 land on a playstation.
GTA5 could well be before Christmas but i doubt you will See the last of us on a playstation 4 this year if not in the next 6 months.
You can also consider the option of trading in the playstation 3 with both them games as you are going to recoup at least £120 for that package, people have really good deals when there is a new console in town so thats another option for you.

Stop talking carp and go for it.......you have no intention of picking up a Playstation 4,and chances are even if you did i think you may have trouble finding one as you have left it extremely late.
Your best bet is to buy the package, play the games for 6 weeks ,pack it all up and go trade it at a game shop, there are only a handful of retailers now on the high street so your options are limited to Game,Blockbusters and CEX .
God the swear filters on this forum are ridiculous to say the least, its like some teenagers forum watched by teachers,i have played GTA5 for about 3 hours and must have heard the F/word 200 times yet even the most basic of swear words is censored on here .
