In a few weeks time I'm packing the lot up and trading it all in at Blockbusters as i don't want a load of unnecessary devices cluttering up the space on my Television stand especially when i doubt they will ever get used again .
The biggest problem i have with trading in the 7 year old Playstation 3 is the trade in value has took a almighty drop,2 months ago it was £70 for my 120gig slim model and now as i feared the trade in value is the same as a recent game such as GTA5 .
£30 for a playstation 3 is criminal and i predicted this would happen because retailers are going to be inundated with Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 and they don't really want them.
People on here are going to say i should keep it,but whats the point in keeping something that is basically going to be unplugged and disconnected boxed away and gathering dust for months if not years.
You see i don't get the urge to play older games or even newer games when there is something better on the market,it makes more sense to me to have that space allocated to may be a Xbox one in the future if that becomes the platform of choice.
At least the Playstation 3 and a copy of GTA5 and The last of us buys me a couple of the next generation games even though i think the trade in price is a joke.
I will be watching the Xbox and Playstation 4 youtube videos with interest once they get released in the USA but as for now and the delay of a few games i only have 3 ordered for the Playstation 4 and there all Shooters.

Your post to me is a prime argument why BC should be on the new consoles.

Should be some bargains about for the PS3 once PS4 launches.
Would be good as just a media player if they are cheap enough.

BC.........is that Battlefield or what ?

Backwards Compatibility, ie play old generation games on the next console.
Trade in prices are normally low and the market of supply and demand will control the price, tech never holds its price once its old so either you take what you can get or continue to use it till it stops working.

I'll give you £10 for your dual shock controller

yep, I agree with his point about clutter.
in my case I kept the ps3 over the ps4 as it has more games, if the PS4 had BC its quite possible I would have ordered one already. But having both would be a pain, its already a bit messy having the 360 and ps3 both setup at same time.

Yeah and I have never been concerned about backward compatability not now not ever, the whole point in buying a next gen is to play next gen games and I have never ever got the BC thing .
I understand all the games that are out on the playstation 3 and the fact you can not play them on a Playstation 4 but why would you.
Why would I spend £350 on a console with a couple of next generation games and then come on the forum a day or two later and say,I had a brilliant time playing GTA5 on my new playstation last night.
If that's the case then don't buy a Playstation 4 and keep your Playstation 3
|
|
|
Well, I guess you could keep your fave games that you bought recently and they'd tide you over till all the promised new stuff came out on the PS4. But I understand your point of view that you'd rather use the new PS4 to its full potential, meaning you may as well use its processing power to its fullest and that, of course, means buying new games not playing old ones designed for the PS3/whatnot.
Let's hope Sony get a move on and get some more games rolled out for ya then.

in my case I dont play games just because they new and out there.
So I would have brought the ps4 as a newer machine, future proofing me for future new games and able to play my existing games on it.
If your question is why would I play ps3 games now? because i have a dozen or so I havent played yet in a pile, the ones I have played I keep replaying as I like them, I have some I have partially played but not beat yet. Plus taking into account the type of games I like there is no launch titles for the ps4 that interest me.
Making the PS4 BC would have been great for me but its not to be.
Also I purposally sourced a 2nd hand fat PS3 so I had PS2 BC, 8 of my games unplayed are PS2 games such as SO3 and FF10 although now I will play the FF10 remake when its released instead.
So for me the purpose of playing PS3 games on a PS4 is to reduce clutter of having a PS3 and PS4 setup at the same time.
Of course sony have announced they plan to offer PS3 games on remote play but if its like the vita psp BC where only limited titles are available that may not entice me.

I think making the PS4 BC would have been a great idea.
To me games aren't just about graphics.
I still play LOTR on my PC it's an ancient game now but I still enjoy it

Yeah, ideally new consoles would cater to being compatible with old games but I can understand sometimes it isn't technically feasible where radically new architecture comes in. I'd definitely rather have a new PS4 built on the tech it has than see it stick with the Cell processor (as much as I liked it at first) if it means more parity across the board with XBO and PC games just for the sake of easier and less costly development.
Games are kind of ageless on a PC yeah as I've got a lot of older games sat on my Steam A/C waiting to be played, like Fallout New Vegas etc. And I still enjoy playing Battlefield 1942! Nothing matches the maps of my favourite El Alamein and the one beginning with G that I always forget the name of etc. I've got LoTR Lego to play yet actually. That's meant to be pretty good.
What LOTR game do you have then? That Iron Witch of Angmar one or something? Haven't played any in the series but it would be my kind of thing provided it wasn't RTS or anything too complicated. I'm simple, I'm dumb, I'm like Timey that way. Yeah. Give me a good FPS and the ability to drive or fly in a wide open space and I'm a happy bunny.

I play Battle for Middle Earth II - The Rise of the Witch-King as a dwarf in skirmish mode against handicapped computer controlled enimys
I always do the same thing, build a big wall around my base, then build up a big army and go out and destroy the fools that dare to anger me
The never stand a chance as the AI isn't very smart and I've handicapped them as well
It's a 2006 game but it's still good to play
Maybe they'll make another one one day
Timey would hate it

Just spent some time watching gameplay on YouTube and I see what you mean by the AI not being very bright. But it looks like building a big wall is the smartest thing to do and those dwarfs are very good for building stuff I guess.
But would a big wall keep Timey out? I don't think so somehow!

Battle for Middle Earth II looks good but I see its not on digital purchase and physical copies are a premium now due to lack of supply shame.
same with The Rise of the Witch-King
never understand the business merits of simply making a game no longer available to buy.
