DPD at 2.45pm bought my Playstation 4 finally after a 9 month wait, first impressions is what a sexy piece of kit, cables all connected and controllers on charge glowing a amber orange colour.
,nice compact official Playstation charger which takes the 2 dual shock controllers which with no charge take up to 2 hours to fully charge.
Got the Killzone mega bundle which has 2 controllers and the camera, made a bit of a mistake here as I watched a unboxing in America of this bundle and his camera had a fixing bracket to fit it to the top of all thin LED/LCD televisions.
But when I unpacked it the camera has no such bracket and will only fit on the glass flat top table,so of to shopto.net to order that.
Got the Sony Playstation screen on now asking me to connect and go through the first time set up which I will do and then update the firmware.....
Not tested any game or any online stuff....thoughts later when I share a YouTube video of me kicking Nell's backside....not sure if this function works at present as I know Sony have temporary switched of a few functions to take the strain of the servers for this firmware.
Apparently in Europe all will be switched back on in a few days .....Anyway guys I'm happy, all seems ok and I will post a little more later....

Well it's not exactly working, been in touch with a few friends and none of us can login to the Playstation network, keep getting error messages for the last hour, when I do get passed the initial network error I get wrong email/ password errors which I know it's not but it still has you changing your password combination just in case,
I think it's the Sony servers are under extreme strain to be honest, can not remember the network error code but when searching it there where loads and loads of posts....bet Swanny has fell of his high chair with laughter
Had a quick go at the playroom which looks like fun if your a little kid, amazing special effects,if I can not login tonight and download the free stuff I shall pop Killzone in which you can play in single player
I even just got email confirmation and changed my password but still makes mo difference, can not connect to the network on my Mac or iPad or the console.Has to be Sony side?

Rang Shopto.net this morning who said that it would be delivered to my home address as RPD had ignored their request for a redirect. Rang DPD and they confirmed that they were delivering it to my home address. I was polite and didn't ask them to change anything. I was just happy to know where it was going. Got the mother in law to sit at home from 9.30am. Then they text me to say it would arrive between 3.30 and 4.30 in the afternoon. Blimey I thought, she's not gonna be impressed! At 3.15 I got a phone call from the office saying it had arrived there! Now, I thought, she definitely won't be impressed.
I was right, she wasn't!

I have tried to sign into the PSN and it is just sitting with a "please wait" loading screen, 45 minutes now. Gonna give it another half an hour then cancel it and take Killzone for a spin.

I don't think they are skimping. I plugged it in and the update downloaded and installed in about a minute. Couldn't sign into the store because there will have been unprecedented demand for free downloads. The demand will last for 24hours then return to normal. You can't put on 10x the bandwidth for 24hrs, you just have to expect people to be patient and behave like the Japanese, not the yanks! That's why Sony is releasing virtually last in Japan. Not because they are screwing them over, but be ause they aren't petulant like us western consumers.
In logged in normally at 11.00pm and Resogun was downloaded, installed a d playing in less than a minute. It loads to game from menu in 6 seconds every time.
It's really impressive. Resogun is an awesome game even if I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing with the humans.

looks like reviewtechusa decided to post his thoughts.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFJtICCZZd8
In regards to PSN, a complete outage is very likely caused by the servers not bandwidth, if it was bandwidth it would just be 'slow'.
I would probably expect something like PSN to ramp up in server capacity ahead off demand, thats just my view tho. Sony knew their sales., thats one point of pre orders, so the sales are known before shipment.

You have to protect them when there cages get attacked and they fall to the ground, once that happens you take your ship to them and it automatically picks them up,you then have to get them to the spaceship that has a beam like a ray gun coming down from above, the minute you carry them there they are saved.
|
|
|
|
Ah! Cheers mate. I wondered why I could only carry one at a time. I kept throwing him to what I thought was safety, but he kept running back!
|
|
|
|
What complete outage?
The PSN is no different to reviewtechusa's olden days. If Woolly's had a sale on state of the art pencil sharpeners and all of the worlds supposed intellectuals created unprecedented demand, they would have to queue. It doesn't matter how clever they propose to be, they would have to queue like everybody else. Just like the people trying to bag free games on the PSN store.
Of course when they get home with their new pencil sharpener in hand, they can put it to work writing a full evaluation of Woolly's business failings, and advise them to buy a bigger store in preparation for the release of the next generation of pencil sharpeners. But they won't build a bigger store for one day a year, however clever the observers. They will sti have to wait in line like everybody else.
And isn't "reviewtechusa" qualified under "yanks"?
|
|
|
Wow. State of the art pencil sharpeners!
But I don't even own a pencil!
Nice analogy there Mr N. Very interesting story too.
To be fair though, I reckon Sony could have done a teensy bit better all the same (though I have no first hand experience) but they are far in a way not alone when it comes to having tech/server issues on day one.
Seems from your's and Timey's experience Sony have improved the PS4 download speeds a lot so hopefully it's a good indication of a better future for the PSN.
Now, do I get a prize for incorporating 5, no 6! different types of smiley? And plenty of exclamation marks to boot? Or what!?

I have had absolutely no problems at all. Zero...zilch...nada! But wait for the revelation........my PS4 really does wobble, but from three corners, not just one, Ishityounot! |
|

So what are your initial thoughts does it hit the target or are you a little disappointed ? I was initially disappointed with Killzone. The rain effects in the first level mind bogglingly had PS3 written all over them. I watched that level a couple of weeks ago and I don't recall rain? Whoever made that decision likely had his crayon encroaching on his cranial cavity via the nasal passage.
Then the second level started and for me, Digital Foundary's appraisal was instantly vindicated. Fall off a cliff, land dead behind a fallen tree, and the first thought is Jeezus, that's some detailed texturing! I don't know how much of the game will be that good, but it certainly shows off what the console is capable of rendering, and I felt the frame rate was solid as a rock. The lighting is amazing, though it's a little squint inducing and probably unnecessary from the games point of view, but really nicely done from a realism perspective, especially the shadowing.
As for the console, it wobbles. I looked underneath and it had two "humped" protrusions in the centre, front and back. It looked a little like a hard rubber seal between the two sections, running parallel to the LED strip on the top. I pushed one gently and it clicked back slightly, so I did the same with the second one and it followed suit. I suspect they are now where they are supposed to be and that it simply hadn't been put together properly, but I can't assert that. For a moment I was worried I had a ringer because it was so quiet on start up! I also looked in the settings menu and saw my ps4 name as "PS4 - 787". Could I have a really early one or is this a randomly generated number; can you have a look at your's and see what it says? Either way, I won't be using it as a coaster and it doesn't vibrate at all, so I'm not concerned. My PC has made a lot more noise for the last 3 years and I have to rest my foot on the case to stop it from initiating take off.
As for the controller, it's really nice. Definitely an improvement over the DS3, although one you didn't openly realise it needed. More comfortable with the slightly thicker hand grips and the modifications to the thumbsticks and triggers are great. They do feel rubberyer (almost definitely a made up word alert ) but not so as to raise the concerns that recent gaming press articles have touted, about them falling apart after a week. But here's the rub - the buttons.
I like playing in the dark ( ). The new share and option buttons are flush and of the same texture as the controller. I don't like this. You cannot find them Braille style when there is a massive crashing sound in the kitchen (most likely a rugrat trying to pillage your secret stash of chocolate hobnobs) to pause the game quickly. A minor thing perhaps, but personally an unnecessary regression for me. Also, their positions behind he thumbsticks seems a little awkward.
Then on to the touch screen/button. In Killzone it is a little strange. I love my mate OWL. He really mixes up the gameplay and is a clever addition. But swiping the touchscreen is confusing at first, mainly because of its position. You feel (or at least I do) that you are actually having to reach over the sticks to get at it. To me, game controls must be intuitive, full stop. If I have to look down at the controller during a confrontation, that's a fail. That is how Killzone makes me feel if I try to put up the shield or use the stun/attack functions. A minor point, but I'm not sure whether my issue is solely with the game design, or the fact that the touchscreen may be a little awkwardly placed for gaming purposes. I wonder if the Vita designers came to the same conclusion when the decision was made to include rear touch control aswell? The Vita certainly over ame my issues with tablet gaming anyway. Tablet=casual gaming to me. I don't know, maybe I'll get used to it, but for now, for me, the DS4 didn't need a touchpad and certainly not in such an unnatural position from a reaction time point of view.
On the bright side Magoo, you can use it to steer your plane in WarThunder.
|
|
|
|
And I forgot to add, sometimes you can see your controller light reflecting in the screen. They need to address this with an update I reckon. It could get annoying.
|
|
|
My thoughts exactly regarding the rain effects thought for a next generation game they were poor for a opening level of a next generation game.
Bad design choice for a first level and i thought initially i had been conned, but like you as soon as you became a man and started the first level it looked drop dead gorgeous.
I also play in the dark so the camera function shows a picture that is quite fuzzy, and the option/share button is quite hard to find fumbling about trying to feel where it is is a tad frustrating.
Only played a little of Killzone and i think its extremely hard with all the functions on the controller to operate especially the bot thing for your companion .
When i get into a firefight i generally forget the button functions and find myself quickly dead lying on the floor,at first a was pressing L1 but the same function was assigned that i had did 5 minutes earlier which was not the right one.
So now i have got used of the 4 swipe assigned keys and what the symbols mean and then you have to heir L1 to tell the bot what to do.
Its early days regards Killzone and i know I'm going to really like it but for me at present the stand out game is Resogun and i just think its awesome, love the sound coming out of the controller and the frantic action and amazing particle effects.
Not noticed my Playstation 4 not been flush on the glass shelf but now you mentioned it i will check it out when i finish typing this, also ordered the camera bracket from shop to.net on Friday evening, got home yesterday and there it was on the hall carpetAmazing service.

You and Mr N should maybe just turn the light on? That would solve a lot of your gaming woes. Then, when it comes natural again, you can go back to playing in the dark.
Other tips: you could take a sharp tool, a blade or somesuch and etch a mark on certain buttons but that's probably a bit too early to do. This way you can feel what it is. Think about it beforehand though - you need to be clever and plan ahead so you can easily differentiate things.
And, get some black electrical tape and cover that nasty blue light up. That's what I do with LEDs. Damn things. But as it's meant to be quintessential to the operation of the PS4 camera you might wanna design another solution that doesn't leave it with sticky residue (oo err). Get your missuses to knit you a PS4 blue light cover or something eh? Or do it yourself even.
Nelly, you will have to try harder than that to get Mr Magoo to check something for you. Double posting isn't sufficient on its own. I recommend reminding him on the hour every hour. And make a video like I did so he knows exactly how to access the settings info. Make it simple! He's elderly after all.

That level on Killzone that I think you are talking about is the one where you zipwire down and there is a big statue with like water on it going over the edge of a mountain? If so that was gorgeous!
Resogun though, that just looks like R-Type from the Atari on crack. Not my kind of game at all, it looks nice, but VERY repetitive. I would want to smash the console after 5 mins I think

Shopto.net/DPD lost/never sent my PS4 (answer depends on who you ask, both blame each other). Bit gutted as I had the console pre-ordered since way before the summer.
Waiting on shopto to get back to me the details of DPD's "investigation" - although I did email DPD seperately and they replied to me today, they are sticking to the story that they have not recieved any parcels from shopto for me.
Left in limbo right now as its very hard to get in touch with shopto and have only got to speak to them once as they dont like you opening tickets on their website about orders, coupled with unprofessional customer support on the phones, shopto taking the money for PS4 pre-orders way too early and shopto banning peoples accounts for swearing in a tweet vaugely mentioning shopto this will be the last time I ever get anything from them.
Probably not get my hands on a PS4 until after christmas at this rate as I really can't be arsed running around trying to find someone that has them in stock this close to christmas and the cynical side of me thinks I will just get excuse after excuse from shopto so will probably push for a refund and get one from amazon whenever they manage to get PS4's back in stock.
|
|
|
A similar thing happened to me earlier this year when a package never arrived. The shop I bought from had to make the necessary checks with the courier and as far as I know the parcel was likely stolen by one of their employees but from my perspective all I could do was try and be patient and trust the company I was dealing with to sort it out on my behalf.
They have insurance arrangements so they need to ascertain the likelihood of them getting something back if it's been misplaced whatnot and this will take time but they should really just send out a replacement to you pronto as it's not like the PS4 costs £1000's.
But from Shopto's perspective they will be dealing with a fair few MIAs and once informed they should have some procedure in place. Guess it just means a bit of a wait but it'd probably benefit you more to stick it out with them than try and source another PS4 and go through the extended hassle of getting refunded, that is, if PS4s are thin on the ground.

Thats appalling treatment mate and i can only speak about them from my past 4 years history which by all accounts has been amazing.
Choose other options when having a drop down menu in there ticket system, just put general enquiry and then air your grief and frustration.
As for getting a playstation 4 then Game have them in stock but they are the pricey special editions bundled with stuff you probably don't want ?
Also ebay is another source and not everybody on there is of the greedy type,my whole Playstation 4 order has been exceptional from start to finish with both Shopt.net and DPD.
the money was taken a week early and i had email confirmation of shopto and that early process,i also had Shipping information of both Shopto and DPD and on the Thursday evening a text and tracking information telling me the expected time the Playstation was arriving at my House Friday, package arrived within 5 minutes of there time slot and i had the facility to track the DPD driver as he delivered his rounds.
Your not the first person that has used this forum about Shopto and there terrible customer service and you won't be the last, what i would do is try and find one of the names of the top guys on that site or even Owner/Co owners and get in touch with them.
The minute they muck about with me will be the last time i deal with them ,but all i can heap on them is praise regarding all my orders when not a single one has arrived late and not a single problem with the goods as of yet?
Sorry to hear about your concerns and if i was you i would also be well and truly Livid.
As regards shop to and DPD both claiming ignorance, your money was paid to shopto and they have a responsibility to honour that agreement, they have taken your money and you are entitled to the goods regardless of there dispute with DPD.

Another reason why up until i found shopto about 4 years ago i hated online shopping, nothing like going into a retail outlet on the high street ,seeing the good, paying for them and walking out with the product with no middle man involved.
And to be honest if there were more independent gaming shops apart from Game that i don't like i would still get my games from those people instead of using online retailers, apart from Game who have the most choice and possibly HMV I'm struggling to think of any other half decent high street store.
Blockbusters don't exist come December 16th and they were my store i used for trade ins and picking up the odd new game with the credit.
|
|
|
|
Ouch that is harsh dude, I hope you manage to get it sorted soon. I would be gutted too if I waited all that time and then it didn't turn up on the day.
This is one reason why I steer away from online shopping now for anything gaming or console related, I was let down by Shopto previously too so won't go back again. I prefer to go to Asda / Tesco or Game. Asda & Tesco are cheaper than most online retailers anyway, selling brand new Xbox One games for £45 at the moment. Game is a last resort really as they are a little more expensive.
Nothing beats going into the shop and being able to take it away there and then, I don't like the feeling of anxiety before release that my game won't arrive on time and I will be left without it for a few days.

Hahaha I believe you
Game do have some good offers to be fair. You can't blame them for being a little more expensive as all they do is sell games. They aren't like a Supermarket who can sell you 4 cans of Red Bull, some chocolate bars and a couple of tubes of Pringles when you buy a game.

They have bundles for around £550 and had them on Saturday when I was Browsing the Game store in the high street in Shrewsbury, actually he had a fair few so if your desperate and want to pay that outlay and some parents will for spoiled little Brat Johnny then they are around.

Phoned shopto this afternoon to see what was going on and spoke to someone helpful (for a change since this whole thing began). They went away and checked and came back and said "Yeah we got an update from DPD who said they were unable to find your PS4, so we will dispatch another one straight away". And within ten minutes there was an order confirmation email and just after 5pm there was a dispatch email - with a tracking number.
The tracking number itself actually states that DPD have my parcel and an estimated delivery date of tomorrow - so this time it does indeed look as if DPD actually has my PS4 - so things are looking a little more hopeful that I at least will have a PS4 tomorrow or friday at the latest (DPD sometimes has trouble delivering to N.Ireland within one day). The previous tracking number just stated that DPD were awaiting receipt of my parcel. Now all I have to do is wait... Oh well at least I will have missed the first day login rush and everything should go smoothly!
|

Good luck! I had my own troubles but it turned out to be DPD in the end, not Shopto.net.
I'm still with Jax though, I'm gonna try to buy more from high street retailers from now on. Sainsburys normally have some stonking deals on games so I'll keep an eye there from now on in.

I'm all talk. I'll be too lazy to get up and go to the store.
I do miss browsing the racks though. Every game shop around our way is in the huge shopping centre which is a real trawl. Even the Sainsbury's has an underground car park that I can't get the van under the bar. We used to have a small shop called Choices in the high street, very much the same as Blockbusters. Sale, rent and popcorn with everything.
It's a Costa's now.
