sounds like you agree with me, I commented the other day a rpg you had found for me had no pre release gameplay footage and I take that as a warning sign the game isnt good.
Nintendo have a agressive anti youtube policy, I filled in their questionaire for mario 3d and it asked how I found out about the game (no option for youtube), had to put in the "other" box. Then it asked what made me want to buy the game and I made a comment something like "Watched a playthru on youtube, and no I will not be passing on the url so you can do a copyright claim, just learn that youtube gameplay footage does sell games if the game is good enough".
These review embargos I dont know a lot about, I mean its obvious for years now that people who do reviews using "free" samples will likely always be biased because if they do bad reviews they risk getting no more free samples, and people have now admitted they will rather not publish a review instead of giving a bad review. But as I understand it this embargo forbids pre release reviews and also some people in their review agreements have been forbidden for been critical of the products?
This is because the gaming industry now sells so many games purely on hype and so many of those sales are pre orders, people often just rely on hype or pre prerelease footage, also lately pre release footage has been better than the final product, bioshock had a E3 demo that was very little like the final game, dark souls 2 had prerelease footage in E3 that had much better quality graphics than the final game (even the PC version), fable anniversary a developer told a camera that the game would have no loading times, yet the final game has pretty bad loading times. They have manipulated gamers to buy games early I think mainly on 2 premises.
1 - Make the game multiplayer meaning if you buy the game and want to play multiplayer you have to buy early as people to play against dies down later on.
2 - Preorder bonuses, time exclusives etc. Meaning you can permanantly lose content if dont buy (or even play) at the right time. I didnt play final fantasy 13-3 the first 4 weeks it was released as had other games to play and was too busy, turns out they had time exclusive items only available to players who were playing the game in those 4 weeks.
