Noisey PS3

[link to this post]

Last night my PS3 was making some strange noises, I lifted it up slightly and dropped it and it went quiet for a while but then started again. I'm guessing the HD is on it's way out. I have another one in my Phat PS and will swap that over if that's the problem?? It happened while I was watching iplayer not whilst playing a game.

I need to keep my saved games. No Timey I'm not going to buy a PS4 yet as I have other stuff that needs money first. tongue

I think you need to be specific. what noise?

consoles use 2.5 inch drives which are not noisy things, I think even when broken they wouldnt be noisy.

If your hdd was broken enough to make a very audible noise above the fan, optical drive etc then I suspect it wouldnt be working at all.

It was a high pitched noise. So maybe it's the fan playing up then?? It was very warm in the house last night

I did strip it down a few months ago to make sure there was no build up of dust, it was fine

Found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgJGN5_Wpwg
It sounds a lot like that.
Just turned it on from cold and it's making that noise without a disc in the drive

Don't know if this helps Swanny?

Not suggesting you have two discs in it, but some foreign object perhaps?

He bought the playstation 4 version of Watchdogs by mistake and the old retro Playstation 3 couldn't cope with the updated graphics on the diskHence it started to overheat and go into meltdown crazy

You could always do the fan/clean test.
