Hi All,
Just had contact from shopto.net that this title, Rise of Tomb Raider, will be an exclusive now only on Xbox One, not on PS4
Yeah read it earlier....seems Microsoft are trying to buy exclusivity for a lot of upcoming games,I'm sure Sony will be close on there heals though.
I don't think this is a good move by Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics to be honest, there are a lot of twitter uproar about this and they might not be doing themselves any favours given the game is generally a franchise that is multi platform.
Very lame. They should make a new game rather than just pay huge sums to get one as an exclusive.
Microsoft will be hoping I go out and buy a Xbox One but that's not going to happen whatever game they buy.

Quantum Break may well change your mind Trance Certainly i would rush out and buy one for this game alone.
they did this last gen also.
usually jrpg's are primarily on nintendo or sony platforms but last gen a bunch were exclusive to the 360. most only timed exclusive's tho.
Do you think exclusivity of this particular game and the franchise in general a good or bad things,i can understand New IPs but not major games such as Tomb Raider.
Where the game is owned or commissioned by the platform manufacturer then fine but surprised that independent developers would cripple their customer base so much unless they are getting a good kick back from Microsoft.
Whilst the original Tomb Raider release enticed me into buying a playstation I can't see myself ever buying a crippled (compared to my PC) xbone for the sake of one title. Square Enix were apparently disappointed with sales of 2013 though so maybe that has driven them to console only this time.
It would have to be literally Millions to recoup the revenue that game would have sold on the Sony Playstation 4.
I don't care what games they have I'd never buy an xbone
I might have done before they tried to force all the big brother [censored] on me
This is a timed exclusive only by the way!!
Yeah so i have heard earlier onFirst it was a Exclusive and now with there gamescom Presentation its now a timed exclusive..What you think.About 3/6months.
I agree with this guy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXUWdXdRThY
knowing how SE work, I expect this to be a timed exclusive. On lightning returns they gave out different DLC to different retailers and they were not available to buy, they wouldnt tell the media if it was timed or not, it turned out to be timed but because noone knew people brought multiple copies from different retailers.

I'm not sure why everyone thought it was an exclusive (even retailers like shopto), the guy clearly says something like it's a holiday 2015 exclusive, to me that said it was going to be exclusive on XB1 for 2015.
If it was going to be an XB1 exclusive they would of just said exclusive to XB1 and then coming out holiday 2015.
I'd imagine it will be 6months max before it hits the other formats.
its out on the 360 also
so exclusive to the xbox brand.

OK I see why some got confused now, but IMO it was still obvious that it was a timed exclusive the way they said it on stage it was just worded completely different to how they normally do their exclusives.
What I did find funny though was the Sony fanboys who were up in arms saying M$ buying it for themselves is a dirty tactic and that Sony would never do that, really?????, Sony did that exact thing for the early versions of Tomb Raider (I remember I had a playstation and my friend had an Saturn and he was a big tomb raider fan so had to go out and buy a PS because of this).
Should Xbox have been more honest and just said it was a timed exclusive of course but both sides of each other are as bad as each other it's just that fanboys from all sides ignore what there side is doing wrong (tomb raider 2 example).
At least it's coming out on other platforms just a little later that is much better than just one side having it.
I''m just [censored] that it's coming out holiday 2015, they all seem to release info on games miles away now and even the ones that were down for an earlier release have/were put back (watchdog, the division, dying light, elder scrolls online) just to name a few, seems pointless giving out release dates they are rarely stuck to and if they are then they can turn out to be a mess to begin with (BF4 for instance)
*edit turns out he had a Sega Saturn not an Xbox that had the first tomb raider on.

Yeah they both pay for exclusive content and timed exclusives that goes without saying, just like the playstation version of Watchdogs has 1 hour of extra bonus content thats not on Microsofts system.
But at Gamescom with that presentation [and i watched it] i did not here anything regarding phil spencer saying that the new tomb raider was a Timed Exclusive, all he used was the words Exclusive
that would have been deliberate, they wouldn't want people to know its a timed exclusive until they have gone and brought a xbox one and the game.
So basically Microsoft have not learnt there lesson and need to brush up in the PR Department.

The thing is, does anyone ACTUALLY care about "1 hours exclusive game content on such and such a platform" ? It doesn't bother me in the slightest, it's usually just an extra mission or something, I don't know how much the console companies pay but it just seems ridiculous.
It's like all the preorder bonus things, preorder it with Game and get a special hat! Preorder it with Shoptop and get an extra 15 colours for your gun. Perhaps it just appeals to the kiddies??

Indeed, To me it was obvious something was up the way they worded it to begin with as it was different to the way they normally say it for an exclusive game, Truthfully though I don't really give a **** about timed exclusives (games or DLC), If I did I'd of got a PS4 (well if I could use a decent controller instead of that awful PS4 controller, just my opinion of course) as I like BF4 and not a fan of the recent COD games and XB1 has COD DLC and Sony had BF4 DLC timed exclusives.
Anyway it's still coming out on Sony platform so everyone should be happy.
Unfortunately EVERY big company of any type of business uses underhand tactics to get more sales or more money one way or another it's just the way of the world.

I care as I am a completionist.
and its not one extra hour content, its more like one hour content removed from the other versions.
and the preorder bonus's are usually more than costumes.
Funny how some dislike the duel shocks....I love them and have no issues whatsoever, mind you I have got Japanese type hands......small
Well I can live with a timed exclusive, as you know I don't usually rush out and buy games on release day anyway
I do dislike all these paid for exclusives though.. only thing that should be exclusive to a platform is their own first party games.

I can understand criticism of the PS3 controller being a bit small but the PS4 controller seems perfect to me, not played with one but picked up one on display in Game today and it felt very comfortable.

I disagree, most of the preorder bonuses are usually costumes e.g. Assassins Creed, weapons e.g. a special sword in Skyrim, gun in BF / COD. I rarely see a preorder bonus that is worth it.
I don't think that the exclusive 1 hours gameplay or missions are worth it. I love completing games too and I am an achievement hunter on the Xbox, however, I don't think the added content is usually key to the game play experience.

I must admit the PS4 controller is a lot better than the PS3 controller (then again pretty much anything is), the main for me now is the triggers they are horrible to use ( to me anyway), My friend who has the PS4 has already had to have 2 PS4 controllers replaced, both with a right trigger issue, one due to it sticking and another due to the trigger actually breaking. (saying that though another friends XB1 controller broke as well so both are a little ropey).

examples?
fable 3, extra area + many extra weapons
lightning returns - extra garbs, these garbs are outfits but each garb also gives abilities, also with weapons and shields, some are very powerful and a game changer.
dragon age origins - weapons, armour, shields
dragon age 2 as above
fable anniversary - weapons, armour
lost oddysey - extremely powerful ability
there was also a game released last year I think where the hard mode of the game was preorder only.
now in the .us gamestop are looking to pay developers directly to have sections of games exclusive to their store, not weapons, costumes, but actual game levels. So they taking it to the next level, or at least trying to.
Thanks for proving my point! All those examples were pretty much extra weapons, they don't make a massive difference to gameplay. I preorderd Skyrim and got some special sword that was great at the start of the game, but by lvl 20 or whatever it is just a regular run of the mill weapon. Plus, it's just overkill at the start as you can smash everything to bits for the first 10 hours you play which isn't as challenging or fun (in my opinion) as working up.
Now if they start doing extra levels etc. that is a bit more interesting, but even so, 1 hours "extra" gameplay is usually just tosh anyway

actually they do as it often is getting a weapon at the start or early point of game that is way more powoerful then you normally get, in some games the preorder weapon is better than everything else in the game.
in lightning returns the pre order garbs could make a massive difference, although square enix did play games and the pre order stuff was only timed exclusive as it all eventually went up for sale as normal DLC.

Yea but then I go back to my earlier point that it just makes it way too easy! It's kind of like pay to win, except you're not really paying any extra. What happened to the good old days of grinding through to get the good equipment. Part of the enjoyment of RPG's for me is building up and working my way through the gear and levelling system. I guess each to their own!
