Frag tells me you haven't got time and having picked the game up only on Sunday you are thinking of trading it already with frustration .
I couldn't agree more mate with the frustrating bit but believe me if you persevere things that you originally struggled with you will kill with little effort the more you learn and the more time spent dying.
Its not fun dying over and over and having to do the same thing all over again, but this is the steep learning curve of the game and it makes you learn from your mistakes.
Last night i spent at least 2 hours and 10 attempts trying to kill boss number 2,constantly just a hit away from defeating him,but constantly failing over and over again.
But with all this i would actually buy a playstation 4 just to play this game as i think its a masterclass in gaming design and level layout is extremely clever as its like a giant maze.
Im that impressed and immersed in this game i have actually just pre/ordered the Playstation 4 redux of Demon Souls 2 out in a few days as I'm totally in love with this Bloodborne.
I urge you to persevere Nelly and things will slowly click in to place, not only that if you do persevere and open up perks and upgrade your states it will open up co/op game play were you can summon help, not only that you can invade other players games and steal there blood echoes.
To be honest mate the first 4 hours i spent with this i was blown away how addictive the game looked and played and the extreme difficult level only added to my frustration,at one point i even said to myself i will never ever complete this game, but the more i tried the less i died and i actually had great pleasure mowing down monsters that first proved extremely difficult to beat.
What you have here is a game that will last you months and months and you will get better,it doesn't matter that you don't have hours and hours to play games but you should keep it and stick with it and your views and opinion will change.
The game will literally teach you how to approach bosses and Monsters even though you will constantly die with lack and care of attention to your surroundings.
For me personally this is the first real reason to own a Playstation 4 as this game has everything even though i admit its the most frustrating and difficult game you will probably ever play.
Just looking around the retailers this morning i see it has sold out at many places and I'm not surprised.
Don't trade it mate, play it more strategically and take your time, suddenly all will get easier, especially if you use your collected blood points to acquire weapon upgrades.
Oh and something else, use Youtube as your guidance in trouble,i actually found out that there are so many special moves you can do with your weapons only last night.
Watch all this Video mate it will seriously help you enjoy the Game

A quote from a reviewer that never previously played any of the other From Software games such as Demons Souls.
Quote ?
Developing an understanding of how From Software requires you to play is of utmost importance. This isnt a game world that bends to your will and yields to your play style. If you dont learn to play by the rules of Bloodborne, you will die even more than you would otherwise. In todays climate of accommodation and accessibility, Bloodborne is a shock to the system that requires the uninitiated to relearn how they approach video games. The perceived loss of progress is not something were used to anymore in the age of the autosave, and it took me several hours to get past that. It wasnt until I realized that as long as I was able to learn from my mistakes, progress wasnt lost that I truly began to embrace Bloodborne.

You will find negatives in every game on the market regarding of how high the game scored, seriously i agree with everything he says but that the part of the learning curve of such a very difficult game which again teaches you how to approach next time around and to take more care and attention.
Obviously some people give in quicker than others and normally I'm one of them, but this game has a fantastic Gothic Map design with some fantastic looking lethal creatures in there and brilliant soundtrack and I'm not giving up on this beauty.
Even last night i spent 2 hours doing the same thing and stuck on a tough MF.

I'll let you shareplay it for a couple of hours, see if you like it.
Personally I'm pretty much done with it. It has a strangely addictive draw to it, but in the end it is still a clunky, stuttering hack and slash, which will see you getting hooked on most of the scenery, emphasising what already feels like a pretty weak frame rate.
What is most disappointing though (and the reason I can't really be bothered with it any longer) is the distance between save points and the monotonous travel required to upgrade or purchase items, both compounded by the ridiculous load times for respawning.
The fact that all this is apparently a design choice is utterly pretentious, so I'll leave it to all the bedroom dwellers littering the Internet with declarations of how wonderful the Emperor's new clothes are.
I on the other hand, can see his [censored] hanging out of his trousers.

If I'm honest mate, I've wanted this to be something I could get into but the more you slate it the more I suspect that I would feel the exact same way as you do!

It's a great game underneath, but it's made some particularly conceited assumptions.
It doesn't have any sort of instruction as to what you need to do, where you need to go and in what order. Now the last one is usually a good thing, right? Open world like, no blatantly obvious rails? Except when it is so strategically difficult, with such long load times, it becomes tedious. Some say frustrating, but I don't agree. The gameplay is frustrating, but that is what makes the challenge so addictive. However, the loading, respawning in front of the same enemies over and over and all without any real idea of what your current objective is (or really should be!) becomes tedious. And I make a distinction there. Tedious, a good challenge does not make!
It borrows heavily from gaming in the late 80's and early 90's, in terms of difficulty, the movement mechanics and camera, even the eerily absent audio at times. It reminds me of playing games such as Knightlore on my Spectrum back in the 80's, cooped up in my bedroom! That however had rails. You knew exactly what you had to do, it just became harder and harder as you progressed. That's why I feel a little aggrieved with the developers. If you want it to be a system seller, understand that this is not the 80's and most people are not inundated with free time. If you want it to be a niche game, say so and the rest of us can admire it's art style from a far, without wasting our money.
Let me know when you've finished shovelling **** and you can try it for yourself.

Call yourself a Gamer matey you have just given up on one of the greatest games ever to grace the playstation 4,yes its got 40 second loading screens when you die which in your case is quite often but to judge a game on loading screens and having to fight your way back to where you died is not really constructive criticism .
And the last one is not strictly true as i found out myself after many days of playing it as you open doors and ladders as you progress through the area that literally bring you back to the very point you respawn when you die,so when you die you realise just mere seconds away or a minute or two there is a door that you opened that leads you way into the level.
Its a confusing game levelling up and not exactly knowing what to do i get that part, but if you look at all the options in the menu when doing so and clicking on the appropriate buttons the explanation is all there in black and white and there are plenty of help articles online.
If your stuck Nelly as to what to do check out the thousands of help me Youtube videos which will explain more clearly,Friday night when i spoke with yourself you said you was now understanding and enjoying it,a day later you don't like it.
But at the end of the day if you don't enjoy something i fully understand.
Majority of players don't agree

I have been thinking about your comments regarding this game and i fully appreciate your views and opinions but i would like to add a few facts in reference to this game that you may well have slightly overlooked.
Don't take this the wrong way mate but i think we have very similar play styles but lack patience and perseverance in games of this type.
This is a game that requires patience of a saint and a lot of exploring and understanding given the nature of the game, its not easy to understand at times as to exactly where to go and what to buy and how to acquire certain weapon upgrades i grant you.
But seriously i don't think you get it ? like you i spent probably 8 hours getting know where to go and constantly dying trying to understand whats this all about,at first i couldn't even get past basic enemies never mind some of the bigger and more aggressive monsters which I'm not including the bosses.
You haven't as far as i know even got to Level 1 Boss mate and i doubt you have seen 2% of what this gem offers, you also mentioned getting stuck in the game world and scenery and you can see why its only 30fps ,i don't have any of those issues and it runs brilliantly.
I agree with a lot of your points and i was totally like you the first 4/5 hours ,but slowly it all came together and i began to understand how to approach this with tailoring the way i played against what this brilliant game put in front of me.
Every evening since purchased about 10 days ago i can not wait until darkness falls so i can retread my steps and try and make small in roads in to this massive gaming world, last night i played it for around 3 hours and opened up another area of the map,but in that 3 hours i died and i died on countless occasions but the draw to continue progress kept me playing for hours and hours, because once you do get past a difficult part you are rewarded and its a massive sense of achievement .
I wouldn't trade this game i would seriously reconsider,i don't even think you have really passed the prologue if I'm honest and if i was you i would delete my save start all over with the better weapon choice and take your time and read everything and search everywhere.

I get it, I just don't enjoy it.
You've only reiterated what I dislike about it the most. It's designed for people who have hours on end to throw at it. I haven't, and although I enjoyed the fighting parts of the game, it really isn't good enough to want to throw time at it which could be spent more productively elsewhere.
It ain't perfect either. The details great, but there is pop in and you really do get caught on scenery, even though a lot of that is down to (what seems like) the 45° increment aiming mechanic. God knows why, perhaps another pretentious throw back to the d-pad days of old. Perhaps it's that clunkiness that makes it feel like the frame rate is dipping, who knows.
But what I do know is that if it wasn't so repetitive, we wouldn't be having this conversation and I would be spending time with what is essentially a really enjoyable game.

This is a less biased review from a non hardcore gamer, from a non gaming publication. It's objective, fair and pays compliment (as I have) to the games presence and format. But it's also far more honest than those of the people with ample spare time to throw at it.
"My spare time is precious and when I play a game I expect it to provide a service to me. I expect it to provide escapism, empowerment and above all else entertainment.
Bloodborne has unfortunately felt more like a chore. I shouldnt have to work so hard to find pleasure, and progress, in a game.
Bloodborne doesnt see its role as providing a service. Instead, it has a sneering kind of play me, dont play me, I dont care if you have any fun kind of attitude.
I want a game to appreciate me as a player and respect my time, not one that sticks its middle finger up and calls me a loser."
|
|
|
|
And I'm also going to pull you up on the title of "system seller".
A system seller is not a game that looks fantastic and gets good reviews. A system seller is a game that appeals to the masses and is accessible to players of every persuasion and play style. This aint it and it will be interesting to see it's eventual sales figures.
GTAV, Far Cy 4, Dying Light are much better examples for the average gamer, with realistic opportunities amongst work and family life to actually game. Bloodborne (as an exclusive) is being overhyped as a must own game.

|
|
I take all those comments on board and completely understand ,but this game only shows it true potential if you graft and take the time and effort required to get around and understand the mechanics of this game.
|
|
|

well to a lot of people its a system seller and if i hadn't already purchased a playstation 4 then this game for me at least would be a reason to do so.
Its horses for courses mate at the end of the day.

That's because they don't understand what a system seller is. By that logic every game is a system seller. This is as much of a niche game as the other Souls games. Bear in mind that you have as much time for gaming in one day as I get in a fortnight. Frag also gets the opportunity for long late nighters.
Making you fight every single enemy again every time you die, then giving you another load screen is a step backward, there's no denying that mate. It even repopulates the level if you clear it, then return to "base" to buy or store some more gear for Christ's sake!
No, I've got better things to do I'm afraid, as have many of the people who will trade this long before getting close to halfway through it. It looks good and the combat is fun, but the over hypers and sycophantic journalists too afraid to not give it a 9.5 for the fear of not being hipsters, is all a little too dishonest for me.
But good luck to those with the time to throw at it. Believe it or not, I wish I was one of them.

As expected, Bloodborne is a very difficult game, but it doesn't punish you because it was made to punish, it simply requires your full attention to make any progress. Players of past Souls games know what to expect with the level of difficulty, while new players may seem overwhelmed after the first few deaths. Keep in mind that there are no impossible areas in Bloodborne, everything can be conquered, you just have to think and focus on what you are doing.
Instead of holding your hand and telling you where to go and what to do every 5 minutes like many other action games, Bloodborne simply puts you in a hostile world and lets you decide how to survive only providing you with the bare necessities along the way. For some this might seem like an impossible task, although others may see it as a great challenge to overcome. It is true that some players may feel that making any progress is far too difficult, I felt the same way when I began playing, but trust me this is not a game you want to skip. Don't be scared to try it, Bloodborne is a wonderful addition to the PS4 library and I cannot recommend it enough.

You have absolutely no patience at all usually, so this game must have really resonated with you. Glad you're enjoying it so much.
I'm trading it and thinking about giving The Witcher 3 a go. Looks really nice and by all accounts the boss type fights are hard, but it holds your hand at the beginning to teach you the combat. The upgrade element has also been apparently streamlined to ease RPG noobs in (me!) and not drown them with convoluted menus.
Sounds good and it's got a horse, Red Dead style. Very tempting.

I liked Red Dead and that had a horse in it, so you might say it's a dead cert.
