This game dropped this morning and i have been giving it a couple of hours and i have to say its breathtaking in level design ,graphics and amazing set pieces.
The last Tomb Raider reboot was superb but this although similar in style and substance is on another level when it comes to presentation.
More exploring of Tombs this time around and lots of upgrading and levelling up is required and much to find and explore.
Games had me totally Hooked for the past few hours and i will return later this evening when i get back home.
Obviously i still have much work to do in Fallout having not scratched the surface, but i think I'm going to spend most of my time with Tomb Raider for now as its a more of a pick up and have a play than Fallout 4 which is going to take me 12 months to finish........If i ever do.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is around 30 hours long, there is no multiplayer but there are other modes and challenges, even a Horde mode if you want to purchase the season pass and a lot of other content to be had like challenging friends and using your card packs to change the way the game plays out with the added bonus collected or payed for if your that way inclined and can not be bothered with searching through the whole game....
Stunning game and i can see why Microsoft paid a small fortune for the Exclusivity rumoured to be for a year .
Think more like 6 months myself but i have read that this is not on a playstation 4 until this time in 2016.

Looks like you won't have anyone to talk to about it then

Really enjoyed the last Tomb Raider and this one looks fantastic, one of the few current games that I really want to play.
It does make me want a Xbox but really dislike the way developers pay for exclusivity on a third party game, it's just lazy and should not be rewarded IMO. They should go and make a new game to be exclusive to their platform.

PS4 will have to wait until November 2016 for the year of exclusivity to end- though 6 months would have been enough, PC it will be out early 2016.

Excellent to hear! I'm going to be picking this up very shortly, possibly this weekend but more than likely next weekend. I loved the last Tomb Raider but my only complaint was that the tombs were far too easy and didn't take much exploring so I'm really happy to hear that they have improved on this.
Can't wait!!!!!

Seriously even i didn't think a game could put one over the mighty Uncharted, but after 10 hours with this gem I'm saying on a personal level this to me out shines Uncharted in almost everyway possible.
Obviously its just my personal opinion but this is the greatest game i have played this year and its one of those games you just don't want to switch of.
Im not putting this along side the mighty Fallout 4 another outstanding game, but i have put a mere few hours with Fallout so I'm not in a position to say to much about and its completely different in style to Rise of the Tomb Raider.
The personal responsible for the level and map design needs some major credit as its a site to behold and literally jaw dropping in places.
the set pieces amaze as does the action and gun play, not for a single second have i become bored or frustrated by any part of this game, even the tombs ,although not extremely challenging they are better than the previous with more to them.
The collectables and things to do in the game are also another major highlight and i can see this being game of the year for many a gamer and again a reason to literally Own a Xbox One or 360 for that matter.
Crystal Dynamics have done themselves proud here, and after the 10 hours i have spent with this game they can comfortably be compared with Naughty Dog based on what they have produced here as its bordering on masterful.

I must be some 15 plus hours into this game at present and the resistance to turning it of and the burning desire to carry on playing hour after hour is the sign of a game that truly delivers on all levels.
The game just amazes me the more i play it and like i said the map/level design is crafted and designed so brilliantly they have certainly put much hard work and effort into this beautiful adventure of the highest quality, and yes its Uncharted standard and some.
to have this exclusive to the Microsoft platform for 12 months must have cost a serious amount of money and in reality i think the developers should have not taken this and released it at the same time.
Because i think if this was not a timed exclusive and based on what a fantastic game this is,the sales from the Sony Platforms surely would have surpassed what Microsoft paid for the timed exclusivity.
This game will be some 12 months old when finally on the playstation and thats a crying shame in some respects it will be well known about and forgotten.
I seriously believe this is a reason on its own to own a Xbox at this time, its got to be one of the greatest adventure games i have ever played and personally to me this is better than Uncharted and Uncharted 4 has got to deliver after this as this is a tough cookie to beat.
Breathtaking visuals

Finished it late last night with a completion of only 72% ,so i missed quite a lot of stuff.
got lots of trading cards as i played through the game which you can now tailor your levels with different perks in a new play through .
can also challenge your friends to various time trials and lots of other modes using the cards you have acquired or purchased [yes micro transactions and lots of them]
Game has to be one of the most thrilling rides i have ever played and is just simply outstanding from start to finish.
Shame I'm the only one on here that actually has it

Shame I'm the only one on here that actually has it
That's the down side to exclusive launches
Don't worry you can talk about it again next year when it comes out properly
|

Huge mistake that this was a paid timed exclusive, apparently doing so and releasing it on the same day as Fallout 4 has seriously hit sales .

Good to hear it's turned out to be such a good game, definitely want to play it and if I had a bit more disposable cash I'd be tempted to pick up a XBOX. Shame the developers buckled in to the temptation of Microsofts cash as I'm sure they could have made enough from sales if it launched on all platforms at the same time, maybe a different date to Fallout would have been wise though like you said.
Don't think it's fair to compare it to Uncharted though until the new one comes out, UC3 was last gen.
|
|
|
Im sure Uncharted 4 will be something extremely special .and yes comparing it to naughty dog and Uncharted 3 is probably a tad unfair.
But they have made a game here that can stand side by side with naughty dog regardless of how old Uncharted 3 is.
There is no doubt in my mind that Uncharted 4 will blow our socks of [Suspenders in Nelly case] .

sales are an unknown whilst I guess the cash is a guarantee. I hate these kind of deals but they keep been made.

Tomb Raider Defiitive, or whatever it was called, handled beautifully and was an excellent game overall.
But when it comes to bags, Uncharted is undeniably mine, simply because it does everything perfectly. Map design, characters, storyline and, importantly I feel, the humour. Tomb Raider looked and handled brilliantly; easily on par with Uncharted.
But as a whole package, nothing tops Uncharted in this genre. In fact the swinging and climbing in the UC4 demos looks like it might even have taken a leaf out of Tomb Raiders book, which is one of the things I think Tomb Raider actually does do better.

Yeah it's understandable but they should of had some confidence in the game they were making, it's turned out great.

I have only actually played UC2, which I really enjoyed but that was back in 2009/10, feel like I should be going and playing through UC 1 to 3. Naughty Dog are such a great developer feel I am missing out!

To me this is a grave mistake as this game would have sold millions on the Playstation 3 and 4 and it must have been a vast amount of money to gain 12 months exclusivity .
Obviously in 12 months time many thousands will buy it for the playstation platform, but the game will then be 12 months old and that in itself has to reflect on lower sales than if it had been released at the same time.
In a years time there will be new games out and people who originally would have wanted Rise of the tomb Raider may well pass that by for newer content.
I think Microsoft thought that paying for this exclusivity would sell many Xbox Ones but sadly this isn't the case.
If i was Crystal Dynamics i would hand back some of the dosh and renegotiate another deal so they could get this out asap on playstation 4,but in reality this isn't going to happen.

Take more than one game to make me want to buy that rubbish.
They [censored] up with all the built in spy stuff they originally had planned

Yeah but at least eventually they back tracked and are now trying to put things right, admittedly it may be to late but there Kinnect support is now virtually none existence and shouldn't have been with the system in the first place because nobody cared for it and there wasn't a single game that justified its inclosure .

What Swanny said!
Except I played the whole series backwards and couldn't put any one of them above the other in terms of story and pacing. Two is probably my favourite in terms of action, but UC3 is an awe inspiringly well made game in every way.

If they drop the price to £150 I might get one
|
|
|
it probably is a lot of money.
Think how much it costs microsoft to make a AAA game. So if they paid a third party say 30% of that cost, they gain an exclusive for a cut price.
|
|
|
Ok, think I better make the effort then these days I tend to find it hard to find the enthusiasm to start a game but once I get started and get into it I enjoy them.

I finally got around to starting this yesterday and I completely agree with you, the game is incredible. The set peices are brilliant, the graphics and draw distance of the mountains etc. are stunning.
The gameplay mechanics are really fun and the story has me intrigued already. The story seems quite similar to an Assassins Creed game, with an evil organisation trying to find an artifact with an ancient magical power, which is fine as I love that kind of stuff

To be honest Jaxx if we didn't think much of this game i would have personally considered giving up and playing Crown Green Bowls instead.
Its one of the best games i have played in the past few years without doubt.
